- 08-09 Pre Season Recap -
Killie 0 Coventry City 2
(Aug 2nd, Rugby Park, 15:00pm KO)
Match
Notes:
Coventry made the made a bright start, and it
took Killie till after the half hour, to make any real
in-roads, with Mehdi Taouil right on the bye line, he gave
us a drag-back, shuffle which the Coventry defence were
relieved to clear his drilled cross. Next it was new signing
Conor Sammon with a step-over at speed inside the box which
took him clear, and it took a good save from the Coventry
keeper to keep the score sheet blank. A Pascali header
(still a trialist) from a corner went just wide, the keeper
had a great save from a Bryson header, and then an even
better one from a Bryson drive from the resultant corner.
Killie did give Coventry a couple of chances before
half-time, but the visitors hit them both wide.
The numerous half time substitutions upset the rhythm of
play, and not much happened for 8 minutes, then we had a long ball for Gray,
Chad Harpur was late coming for it, and knocked the big winger over. Elliot Ward
scored from the spot. For the next 20 minutes Killie were woeful, as passes went
astray and the shape went awry, but a Willie Gibson shot which Westwood touched
over did give some hope to the home support. Taouil and Fernandez combined to
give Sammon a half chance but he couldn't get the ball out from under his feet
to get any power into the shot. That hope was snuffed out in 81 minutes when
Julian Gray shuffled to give himself some space, and hit a curling right foot
shot past Chad Harpur.
Kilmarnock:
Rascle (Harpur), Fowler, Wright (Skelton), Pascali, O'Leary (Lilley), Ford,
Hamill (Murray), Fernandez, Sammon, Taouil, Bryson (Gibson)

Killie 1 QPR 0
(July 28th, Rugby Park, 19:45pm KO)
In
the opening minute, Killie had a half chance at the far post but
Danny Invincibile's shot from eight yards was well blocked by a
Ainsworth.
QPR's pressure was then relentless and moments
later Damien Rascle was on-hand to deny Balanta, who had broken away
down the left side.
 Incredibly,
after all QPR's hard work, it was Killie hosts who took the lead on
32 minutes. Following a corner from the right by Mehdi Taouil, the
impressive Parma trialist Manuel Pascali rose highest to head home
from eight yards.
On 44 minutes, Balanta's persistence forced
an error in the home defence, and he was able to get a great shot
away from 18 yards, but Rascle was proving tough to break down, and
pulled off another excellent save, this time diving to his right.
Killie's best chance of the second half came just after the
break, the pacy Conor Sammon breaking clear but seeing his fierce
shot from 20 yards expertly pushed away by Cerny in the QPR goal.
Rascle certainly was much improved from Sat's first half
performance Vs Wolves, to give the Killie faithful a glimmer of hope
should Alan Combe's injury become prolonged!
Kilmarnock: Rascle, Fowler, Morgan, (Murray) Pascali (Hamill, 78),
O'Leary, Ford, Invincibile (Corrigan) Fernandez (Trialist) , Sammon, Taouil (Skelton, 75),

Killie 0 Wolves 3
(July 26th, Rugby Park, 2:00pm KO)

Match
Notes: With 23 minutes, played Mickey
Gray hit a free kick into the box, and big Chris Iwelumo got above
David Lilley to head past Rascale, who seemed out of position, in
the Killie goal.
In 32 minutes a Jamie Hamill error put Matt Jarvis, through,
although Damien Rascle saved his shot, the winger recovered to find
Vokes to score from close range.
Right at half time, Danny Invincibile volleyed over a Hamill
cross, with Killie's best chance of the match.
Early in the second half, Daniel Jones crossed from the left
and Chris Iweluma (a Galston boy) nipped in front of Frazer Wright to get the
faintest of headers past Chad Harpur.
Parma Trialist Manuel Pascali, did alright for his 20
min (or so) appearance, with a few decent sliding challenges, and didn't look
out of place as the end of the match looked like a bunch of headless chickens
running around (too many sub's!).
Trialist Connor Sammon
(right) was left sitting on the bench for the
whole 90 minutes, as Derry City had withdrawn permission for him to play, as
they are now considering a bid from the Accies.
Team: Rascle (Harpur), Hamill
(Corrigan), Hay, Locke (Pascali), Lilley (O'Leary),
Wright (Murray), Fowler, Fernandez, Invincibile, Taouil ,(Morgan), Gibson

Stenhousemuir 0 Killie 3
(July 23d, Ochilview Park 7:30pm KO)

Match
Notes: Invincibile netted his 3rd of the pre-season with a fine
volley to open the scoring. Trialist Conor Sammon (Derry City) scored
with a direct run through Stenny's defence, with a nice finish, but
looked a little rusty overall. Ferdy got Killie's 3rd toe-poking home
from close range (above) after a scramble in the Stenny goal mouth.
Team: Rascale, Lilley, (O'Leary) Wright (Murray), Ford (Corrigan),
Hay (Hamill), Invincibile, Fowler, Taouil (Flannigan), Bryson (Gibson)
Sammon (Trialist), Fernandez.
Alloa Ath 1 Killie 1
(July 21st, Recreation Park 7:30pm KO)
Match
Notes: Anson opened the scoring with a header from a Flannigan
cross. Wasps goal was a penalty. Ford was the capt. on the night. Killie
were denied a
stonewall penalty when Wullie was clearly felled near the end. JJ fuming
with the ref, over the penalty calls (the given and the not given!).
Team: Harpur, Murray, Skelton, Corrigan, O'Leary, Ford, Flannigan,
Cox, (Bryson 45 min's) Hamill, Anson, (Nolan 66 mins) Gibson.
Airdrie Utd 0 Killie 3
(July 19th, New Broomfield 3pm KO)

 Match
Notes:

yards. Second half double by Danny, (left) with the 2nd (in the 89th
min) being a cracker. JJ was posted missing, assumed to be away looking
at a striker for the upcoming season.
