Alan Combe had no complaints about
the result Vs Celtic but had little good to say about Nakamura or
McCurry.
He
said: "There were 11 players on that pitch and 5,000 Killie fans who
were upset by that because it was never a penalty. The fact Nakamura
got up with the biggest grin on his face tells a story. He went down
too easy, without a doubt. In saying that, they were 2-0 up at the
time and we were never in the game - but losing three goals was
disappointing. It was a soft penalty we got against us at Ibrox last
week. You could see with the abuse he was getting with all the
singing, maybe that played on his (McCurry's) mind, I don't know."
Oct
14th JJ on Alan Combe's Contract...
"We've had a brief chat with
Alan about a new deal and he'll think about it. His contract is up at
the end of the season but we have the option of another year so we are
just trying to get it all tied up. These things can drag on for a few
meetings but we'd like to get it tied up quickly. Everyone appreciates
the form Alan has been in. He's been unlucky not to get a shout from
Scotland. There's not a keeper alive that doesn't lose daft goals
because it's a hard job but Alan has pulled us out of holes more often
than he has cost us. It speaks volumes about what I think of Alan that I
put him in at the start of the season after he came back from injury.
Damien Rascle had been outstanding during the pre-season games while
Alan had been forced to sit on the sidelines. But when it came to the
first game of the season when Alan had come through a week of training,
I put him in because he's been there and done it. He wanted to prove I
made the right decision and he has"
Jan 9th Combe Signs New Contract...
Kilmarnock goalkeeper Alan Combe has
agreed a contract extension that will keep him at Rugby Park until 2011,
with the option of a further year.
Jan 16th Combe On Signing His New Contract..."I
don't see it being my last contract at Killie, If I can do well over the
next two or three years then hopefully I can get another contract after
that. I take great inspiration from a lot of guys who are playing who
are 40 and 41. I'm only 34 and have another six or seven years left in
me. If I look after myself, hopefully it will be at the top level.
Playing to that age does creep in to your mind the older you get. I
don't have a weight problem or anything like that. You see a lot of
goalies getting to my age and start getting a wee bit chubby but I've
not got that problem. It's just a matter of looking after yourself and
staying injury-free and, touch wood, I can do that. But it has become
more difficult to be honest. It's not an easy job being a goalkeeper.
You are throwing yourself about on some dodgy surfaces and doing it time
and again on a daily basis. When you wake up in the morning sometimes,
you feel a bit sore. But it's a case of enjoying what you do for a
living and putting it to the back of your mind and getting on with it. A
fresh challenge might have been good but I see it as unfinished business
at Kilmarnock, We have done okay in the last five years that I have been
here - apart from last season - but we need to kick on. We want to make
ourselves a fixture in the top six and reach another cup final. But
getting in to the top six is a major factor for the club and that's my
main aim."
