Notes & Quotes:
Aug 6th 2008:
Kilmarnock have signed Italian midfielder Manuel Pascali on a
three-year deal.
The 26-year-old has joined for an undisclosed fee from Parma after
impressing during Killie's pre-season training camp in Tuscany.
Pascali then scored the only goal in last month's friendly win over
QPR.
The holding midfielder was recommended by Stefano Salvatori, who
played for Killie boss Jim Jefferies during his spell as manager of
Hearts.
Pascali Said: “I am
very, very happy to be a Kilmarnock player, and I look on this as
the biggest opportunity of my career. I know a little about football
in other European countries and know this is an important league. I
have been told about the amazing atmosphere at Scottish games and am
looking forward to seeing what that is like for myself. Obviously
players like Gattuso, Amaruso and Porrini have played in this league
in the past and Porrini himself has told me all about his fantastic
experiences in Scotland.”
“The boys are really kind
and have welcomed me, They tell me that speaking English here is
different to England, but they haven’t taught me any Scottish slang
yet. No-one else can speak Italian, so it’s giving me a chance to
practice my English, which can only be a good thing! I can’t wait to
get out there for Kilmarnock now and do my best, not only for
myself, but for the coach, the chairman and all the supporters.”
Aug 13th 2008:
Kilmarnock midfielder Manuel Pascali started his SPL career as he
ended his Italian one, with a yellow card, but has vowed not to
change his no-nonsense approach. The 26-year-old was cautioned after
a bruising challenge during Killie’s 1-0 win over Hibernian last
night. “It’s impossible for a footballer to change the way he
plays,” he snarled. “This is the way I have played since I was a
child. I give all I can for the team, for the supporters, for the
gaffer and for the chairman, for all the people who have faith in
me. I used to get a lot of bookings in Italy.
I don't know if I could become a
target for players because of my image but it was a very bad tackle
because he didn't take any of the ball.
Aug
22nd 2008:
Pascali revealed his delight over his goal but
insisted his biggest success was in not getting
booked. "It's a fantastic day because I scored
and we took three points from the league
leaders. It's a dream for me but the thing I
want to point out is that I wasn't booked by the
referee and that's more important than getting
man of the match. I don't know if I could become
a target for players because of my image but it
was a very bad tackle because he didn't take any
of the ball. We have started very well. We will
enjoy this win then think about the CIS Cup tie
with Brechin City and the game against Dundee
United. After that we have a week off for
international duty and I will return to Italy
because I don't have any clothes! I only
ever wear my Kilmarnock tracksuit just now and
that's a problem. Seriously, everything is
perfect. I'm so happy and I want to say so much
but my English is poor so I will have to leave
it until I've had more lessons."
