The draw for Kilmarnock was enough to maintain their four-point lead over Motherwell, and they will end the season there - barring a defeat and a Motherwell win with an 18-goal swing.

Kenny Shiels without a win in seven games as the Ayrshire club's interim manager although the visiting fans made their feelings known that they want him to stay at Rugby Park.

The game also saw Alexei Eremenko end his Killie career as he is suspended for Sunday's season-ending visit of Rangers, and the Finn may now be on his way to Spanish football with Real Mallorca.

Motherwell found it difficult to get the ball off Killie at times but they also enjoyed good spells and took an early lead.

Jones cut in from the left and hit a powerful right-footed shot which wrong-footed Bell and bounced inside the near post.

Tim Clancy had tried to block the shot and may deflected it as the goalkeeper dived the wrong way.

Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey also threatened from long range before Kilmarnock came into the game.

Aubameyang saw a header cleared off the line by Steve Hammell and Eremenko had a shot from a tight angle saved by Randolph after Bryson had dispossessed Tom Hateley.

Bell was beaten for a second time in the 38th minute, only to be saved by the offside flag after Steve Jennings ran on to Humphrey's cross to head in off the post.

Despite some good good possession Kilmarnock could not break down their opponents until just after half-time.

Eremenko sliced the hosts open with a pass inside Steven Saunders and Dayton cut the ball across the six-yard box for Aubemeyang to slide home.

Kilmarnock were fortunate to see Humphrey's cutback evade a home player before Sutton had a shot blocked from a good position.

Killie soon regained the edge and Dayton shot wide from 20 yards, then Randolph tipped over Bryson's effort, which looped off a Motherwell defender.

Motherwell again came close when Shaun Hutchinson met a Jennings cross, Bell diving low to stop.

And Randolph blocked from the overlapping Garry Hay as both teams sought a winner in vain.
