2011-12 Season Player News & Quotes:

Jan 8th on His Penalty Save Vs Dee... “It wasn’t the best of pens. I made a couple of saves after that which were definitely harder.  To be fair, big Rab Douglas made a few stops up his end which were fantastic – I’d love to still be playing at his age and making saves like that. Dundee are in a false position – they’re a big club and had a point to prove. We’re pretty happy still to be in the Cup.”

Nov 28th on Killie's Defending Style (after the Rangers Win!)... "We pass it from the back, but we also have defenders who can defend We went through a spell of individual errors for a few weeks, so people were looking at it and thinking it was because of the way we play. But I never thought that. It was down to individual errors if you actually look at the goals we lost.  We have good enough players to pass the ball from the back and that is why we do it.  After losing three second-half goals to Celtic and six to Caley Thistle, we knew we had to be more solid defensively to give ourselves a chance. Once we got the goal it was all about showing what the defenders could do and that we could keep a clean sheet. We had to dig deep and all the boys were brilliant. We kept them relatively quiet all game. Momo was outstanding and that was one of the best games I have seen him play. Pasca was brilliant, too. They were two rocks in the centre of our defence. They had a massive contribution to the game, but it is a team game and everyone played their part.  It does make my life easier. The defence were outstanding and they kept things solid. Everyone is obviously buzzing, but it's only one result and we need to keep it going. It was always going to be a hard game and to get the three points was magic. The manager will make sure the feet stay on the ground, but you take a lot of confidence from that. It had been 17 years since we had beaten Rangers at Rugby Park. Hopefully we can build on this and put a wee run together and push ourselves back up the table. We have actually done pretty well, apart from the 6-3 defeat to Caley. Even the games we have lost have been pretty close. I think we were due a good result. We would like to get a rhythm going now and go on a run to push us up to third or fourth spot. People look at us as being inconsistent, but I don't read it that way. We have had one really bad performance this season against Inverness and it was stuck in the middle. If you took that away from this period it's been a really good spell for us and what a brilliant run."

Aug 22nd on his Sensational Double Save Vs Hearts... (Grainger Freekick & Stevenson Follow-Up)....  "I saw Ryan after the game and he told me he couldn't believe I had saved it. On another day he would have put it away and I rode my luck Grainger's free-kick was a horrible one to deal with due to the movement on the ball. It was unbelievable so it was just a case of trying to keep it out. I was fortunate that the second effort was within my reach and I was able to get both hands to it. It was a good save but one I needed to deal with".

On Former team-mate Jamie Hamill's Freekick...  "I'm not talking about that! Seriously, that was my fault. A lack of concentration.  I told our goalkeeping coach Billy Thompson it was better to be lucky than good. I was fortunate it went over. Hopefully, I won't be doing that too many times this season."
On Getting A Point... "We're disappointed we didn't take more than a point but a draw was possibly fair. We made a lot of chances against Hibs last week but lacked a cutting edge this time.  However, we'll take a draw as Hearts are a good team."

July 23rd 2011 on the Season Ahead... "It feels like a clean slate this summer for me to work from. I spoke to the new manager long into the summer when I was signing and I know he's behind me 100 per cent. That's all I want in a manager, not to tell me something then do something different, which has happened in the past. I'll be honest for him in everything I do - I'll try my hardest for the team. It's a new challenge for me, another season where I want to do well and hold on to a Scotland spot. Not being in the team here cost me that Scotland place last season and I was disappointed. Everyone knows the reasons why - I didn't think I got treated fairly at the club. I got injured for two weeks, was told if I was fit I would play but then I came back and never got spoken to. I asked the manager why and he said it was a contractual situation. I've not spoken about it before as I was working with the manager at the time but I know what was right and wrong. All you ask in football is to be treated fairly and honesty. But that's in the past and I am now starting afresh. When all that happened I thought I was going to have to get away from here. But things have changed with the new manager who spoke to me about what he wants from me. I've asked him questions and heard what I wanted to hear."

"It's a good chance to impress the Scotland assistant manager. It's a massive thing, everyone wants to be involved - no matter if you're first, second or third choice. The boys are really close, probably more than ever. When I first went into the squad it wasn't as close as it was. Then in February we went to La Manga and everyone bonded really well."

"We were tipped to be relegated last year too. It just gives us an opportunity to prove people wrong. We've gradually improved during pre-season and that's going to happen as we've a lot of new bodies. We can get into the top six again, we won't listen to anyone outwith the staff here. People who are shooting us down won't know the new players but look at last season. If I'd been asked this time last year who Alexei Eremenko was, I wouldn't have known. Now everyone in Scottish football does."

June 22nd 2011.... Killie confirm player has signed a new 2 year contract, keeping him at Rugby Park till May 2013

Keeper Cammy Bell insists his decision to sign a new two-year deal with Kilmarnock was not down to finance.

The 24-year-old Scotland cap, who was out of contract in the summer, revealed he turned down more lucrative offers from clubs in South Africa and Denmark.

Bell says he had to assess all options before making a choice of clubs.

"It was definitely not financial. I took the time I needed to think about things and make sure it was the right decision for my career," he said.

Ajax Cape Town, Aalborg and teams in England were among the teams he spoke to as he considered his future.

Bell confirmed: "I came to the conclusion Kilmarnock was the right place to stay. I spoke to Kenny last Tuesday.

"To be honest, I was 50-50 whether I was going to stay at Kilmarnock or not.

"He had to answer some questions for me and he did, he was brilliant with me and that made my mind up on the day and I signed the deal.

"Ajax Cape Town offered me a contract and it was a good contract. I spoke to Aalborg in Denmark and I also spoke to a couple of English teams.

"I did have a lot of contact with a lot of people but when I came and spoke to Kenny I knew I had made the right decision in staying at Kilmarnock and I'm definitely committed to being here for the next two years. I want to play in England one day but it maybe wasn't the right time for me to move there."
