News & Quotes:
Nov 25th on His Form..."There
are parts of my game I need to improve, parts that are weaker than
others. Sometimes it can be small things that make big improvements.
Obviously working with Jimmy (Nicholl) will help me improve. Everyone
knows him and you've got to have respect for someone who has been there
and done it, played at World Cups with Northern Ireland. So you can't
ignore advice from him. Jimmy will speak to me quite a bit and if I have
a bad day in training he'll call me over and tell me what to do. Jimmy,
like the boss, is never short of advice. Being 18 and playing the SPL
champs is great. They have quality players and if I can prove myself
against them then it's another string to my bow. St Johnstone took
points off Rangers and we took points off Celtic so you never know.
We've not played badly but we had a poor result against Inverness. We
know that was a freak result and it can happen in football. But
hopefully we can play our football against Rangers and try to pass them
off the park. At times last weekend we passed Hibs off the pitch so I
feel we can do that against Rangers."
On His Extended Deal...: "It was nice to get the new deal
but it came as a bit of a surprise because I'd just arrived. But I'm not
complaining. It's nice that the gaffer think I'm good enough to stay for
a few more years. I've featured more than I imagined. I thought I'd get
a few games at the end of the season because not many bosses will play a
kid who's 18 so I owe the gaffer."
Nov 11th Shiels on McKeon's New
Contract..."We
are producing a conveyor belt of younger players on four-year contracts
that have incentives in there because we are building for the future."
Nov 4th on the Eve of the Caley (H)
Match..."We
all know what we have to do this weekend. The Ayr semi-final is
a big game and we're all looking forward to it. But our main
focus is the league. There's a big desire to do well in the
league and we are looking at the Inverness game as the chance to
win another three points. Inverness are bottom of the table so
they have got nothing to lose. They also beat us up there the
last time we played and have players we're going to have to
worry about. The opposite is also true. So I'm hoping that come
time up on Saturday they will have done far more worrying than
us. Our season was turned round by a win at Tynecastle last year
so I'm hoping we'll do the same this time after beating Hearts
last week."
On Signing For Killie...
“When
Kenny heard I'd been released he called me up and offered me a
contract. I wanted to work with Kenny because he's good with the
young players. He's given me a chance here and hopefully I can
repay him because I've a lot to thank him for."
July 15th Kenny Shiels on Signing Rory McKeown (Vs Pique)...
“Rory is a great young
player, he fits in with the way we play and is up for the fight.
I am looking to build players for the future as well as for now.
I thought about taking on Mitchell, but felt that he was very
similar to Rory in left back. As a signing, I thought it was
better to bring through Rory at 18, than take on Mitchell who is
31.
