  2. I left Fir Park and wandered into the Motherwell evening with the sounds of Hungry Heart echoing behind me from the tannoys. The Boss is not everyone's cup of tea, but it seemed an inspired choice for a club in Scotland's post- industrial heartland that seems to have successfully maintained a place in the hearts and minds of its modest support. With the 100 Club up and running again and another social club operating in the Davie Cooper Stand, the fans are spoiled for choice before filing into 3 disparate and sorry looking stands that suddenly spring to life and seem just right for the job at hand - creating an atmosphere to inspire the team. I dare say the big OF sell-out stand looms over them like an unwelcome guest at their party, but the seemingly assimilated Ultras sit nearby and build an atmosphere to let the away fans know they've arrived at a club with identity and spirit. The images of Davie Cooper and Phil O'Donnell on the outside of the stands caught my wee boy's attention before we went into the ground. He loved the drumming, he was desperate to go back into the 100 Club after the game. These are the distractions that kids love as they're not going to sit and study the match for 90 mins. He loved the spectacle of the Celtic fans bouncing away at Rugby Park the other week (like it or not) but is already clocking at 6 years old that our fans don't show and that we always lose, and he's already getting bored with Killie. Not with football and all its razmatazz, but with Killie - despite all my efforts. When I got home last night Facebook was full of images of a noisy wee St Johnstone (bare chested???) Ultras section that Hibs fans were complimenting for raising an atmosphere, a St Mirren Ultras group with flags and noise galore, chatter about an enormous Aberdeen travelling support and of the numerous songs Hibs fans were singing. A footie event night I went to last week touched on Queen's Park running into the pitch to The Specials, due to a tenuous black and white link someone at the club came up with. What about us though? What do other fans, and their young kids, remember about us these days? We all bought into Bobby Fleeting's dream in the 90s and in all honesty if he had said 40,000 seats we'd have said yes please. The stadium though has become the elephant in the room - 2 decades of watching the Old Firm troop in and own it have killed it for a lot of fans. And now we sit in a mostly empty ground and the away fans might as well be sat on the moon, they're so far away from us. We're all generally sat as far away from each other as we can get away with it as well, it feels like. Anyone new doesn't know which one of the 15,000 empty seats to choose as they all have white stickers on them claiming ownership by a long gone ghost supporter. Instead of social clubs we have the hotel and bar from the days we though we were Chelsea. We've had years and years of losing far more than we win, with only Mixu and Kenny to break up the grind, along with a few characters amongst the players who unfortunately get discarded by the club along the way. As the town has expanded into the countryside it seems to be forgetting about it's club that also forgot it was part of the town. All is not lost. The youth players coming through are fantastic to see and the club is doing a lot of good work at development level. The pitch everyone moans about is a false flag that detracts from the harder debates. But we feel a long long way away from a day when away fans leave hearing a song ringing out that makes them think of the identity and soul of our wee club, and when our kids leave the ground buzzing with chatter and excitement. Talk is cheap, and it would be easy to offer a pile of solutions, but I'll continue to drag the wee man along in the meantime although a positive change in our club's matchday experience and identity feels a long way off.

  5. If we had season tickets that were just for the East stand with no allocated seat number it wouldn't be a problem.

  6. The other big flaw is so many seats being marked as reserved when they are clearly no longer. That really needs sorting out. Conceding I'm now only an occasional visitor, four or five of us will make our way up from Dumfries for a game. Finding seats together is a nightmare for fear that at five to three someone will arrive claiming you're in their seat. Might not seem a lot to some but it's another wee turn-off for walk-up fans.

  7. The flaw with this is there are still plenty of open sections just now. Why don't the singers congregate in the bottom corner of the east stand next to the Moffat next game? Plenty of room there

  8. Sitting/standing, it's all the same. Away fans don't have any problems singing or chanting, even when it's only 100 odd County fans. The problem is sitting surrounded by fans who don't sing or chant and feeling constrained by their silence. Having open season-tickets for the noisier East stand would allow fans who want to give the team vocal encouragement to congregate together rather than being spread out as they are just now. It might not work initially, but once fans have sussed out where the singers/chanters go I think it would improve the atmosphere at games.

  11. McLean, I am pleading with you to stop this, for your own sake. You are embarrassing yourself with posting random twitter posts from nutters which are then shot down with examples of Unionists doing the same. You raise arguments that are instantly rebuked which you then ignore. It's just sad man

  17. Don't understand obsession with former managers. Yesterday's news. Clark bogged off to Bury in preference to the mighty Killie. Anyone mad enough to do that deserves all he gets! Incidentally Bury are traditionally amongst the half dozen worst supported clubs in the football league so what can they expect in League one? The supporters they do have were always pretty unpleasant when I came across them when I lived in Lancashire so I'm certain the club and Clark deserve each other!!

  18. You have to laugh at McLean and his pals. So proud to be British Nationalist (party) but still love a Nazi salute. Confused chaps. And that was them winning. I dread to think of how they'd react to losing. Probably like this.... Patriotic Scots indeed!!! True Patriots!!

  20. @Zorro relax mate. Go for a pint. Take the dogs a walk. Spend some quality time with the family. Take a day or so away from this particular thread and chill out. Come back and reflect later once you've calmed down a little. You're going over and over the same argument because others won't agree with you. You're entitled to your opinion and you've been given a platform to make it. Others are entitled to theirs too. They've given reasons why they don't agree with you. Let it go. Failing that...if we all post agreeing you are completely right and that the only reason we are s**te at home is the pitch and that Jamie McDonald is terrible will you let it go?

  26. Astonished that anyone on here has a single bad word to say about the man. If you don't like Kenny Shiels, then in my opinion, you are not a Kilmarnock fan (cue the red cards). The guy worked tirelessly on a shoestring to deliver us a level of success that we have fallen so far from since his departure. You really need to look at where we were and where we are now. THEN - Pundits and opposition coaches alike were lining up to heap praise on our attractive brand of football. SINCE - Under AJ, GL & LC we have been subjected to the worst brand of long ball nonsense of any team in the league - bar none. THEN - We were beating the Old Firm semi regularly, We had a game plan and the belief to carry it out. SINCE - Can't be sure on this but can probably count on one hand how many beatings from Celtic we have kept below 3. Not to mention Aberdeen have slaughtered us 12 times in a row. THEN - Kenny was bringing through some of the best young players in the country. A lot of boys, that we as a collective, were very excited about. I remember Craig Brown talking about Chris Johnston and Ryan Fraser as Scotland's future. SINCE - Ryan Fraser developed properly and is playing in the English Prem as a bit of a stand out for Bournemouth. Chris Johnston still at Raith? (I have no idea). Rory Mckenzie has got worse every season since Kenny left. THEN - Brilliantly honest pre and post match interviews (I accept that they got the club in trouble - worth it). A breath of fresh air every time he spoke. SINCE - AJ, GL, LC and LM reading from the same script; blaming individual errors and promising to work harder. I now listen to music when driving home from watching us get pumped! I could honestly go on and on! People always praise Mixu's team on here as the best side they have watched. For me, that was all down to Kenny (and Eremenko of course). Mixu's teams were dog sh*t to watch before us and have been since. The passing philosophy was Kenny's and he's instilled it at Derry City over the past couple of seasons. I don't like doing big posts on here. But this is something I feel passionately about. I would have King Kenny back in a heartbeat. Before anyone. He is the best thing to happen to this club in a very long time.

  27. You could argue that both managers were in the right place at the right time. A lot has to do with personality, if you walked into a pub and Bobby was the only person there would you strike up a conversation ? Maybe, but you might be inclined to check out his mood first. Kenny on the other hand, would almost certainly strike up a conversation with you first. I won't say one was better than the other. Bobby's team reduced me to tears of joy after the semi-final against Dundee Utd. Kenny's team gave me the best 45 minutes as a Killie fan since Eintracht with the 3-0 lead against Celtic. Kenny also performed a tactical masterclass in the League Cup Final, but equally, his teams were destroyed on more than one occasion by ordinary sides. I also think Sissoko, Bell, Hay, Fowler, Van Tornhout, and Sheils, are Kilmarnock legends for their performance in 2012. Would I go to a dinner to celebrate their achievement ? Yes, I would.

  28. Managers and clubs can be a good or bad fit for each other, to an extent, regardless of the manager's ability. Kenny Shiels and Killie were a good fit for each other. Kilmarnock FC was big enough and could attract players good enough to let him do what he wanted on the park and we, for the most part, loved him and his passion. He was the last guy to give us a team to be proud of. My favourite Kenny Shiels memory (apart from the Cup win, obviously) was when he popped into the Sports bar after a draw with Hearts. He went round the tables, sat and talked to fans just after the game. He explained his tactics, where they had worked and where they went wrong. I got the impression that he loved the club and not in a saccharine-sweet badge kissing way. He wasn't perfect and he made mistakes, but he will always be one of my favourite Killie managers. I'd have him back in an instant.

  29. Always a method to Kenny's madness. Much missed and despite some of the greatest days in our history still underappreciated by some. If only he'd been allowed to finish the excellent job he started. An absolute hero of mine.

  30. This deserves a red card. This man was an absolute legend. genuinely cared. I would give ANYTHING to have him back. if we brought him in this Friday evening we would get a result against Aberdeen on the Saturday. Set us up brilliantly. the last time we seen a manager employ tactics was Kenny Shiels.

  31. Surprised Gary Holt is currently unemployed and the club are showing no interest in getting him involved in some way. Theres plenty he can do and he knows what it takes when it comes to performing on the pitch. A wasted resource who would hopefully jump at the chance if it was given.

  32. Hilarious - But the point around the drum is that a group of teenagers who prob have multiple distractions feel engaged enough to put the time in together to make the flags and prepare something for the Saturday afternoon. And it's tolerated /accepted by the rest of the support. Look at the video of them on YouTube marching into For Park together on Europa League night. Going by your response maybe we have exactly what we deserve.

  33. So, our players training on the pitch and getting used to the surface makes them play more poorly on it while the opposition players who play on it once or twice a year play much better on it. Yes, that makes perfect sense to me. While I don't like the surface it hasn't stopped plenty of teams playing very good football on it.

  34. Can't help but think you've exaggerated for effect here. You make it sound like our pitch kills small children. If our pitch has contributed to our poor home form, then it's equally contributed to all the other team's improved away form when they play us, no? Unless our horrendous spell at Rugby Park over the last few seasons has been for other, variable reasons? We've been s**te at home, the pitch has been pushed as some kind of sacrificial lamb to explain it. I completely agree that I'd prefer grass. No question. But I'd prefer good grass, rather than the absolute mud-fest/frozen solid/sandy nonsense some pitches have served up in recent years. Never mind the fines for abandoned games.

  35. Once again will people not realise that the park isn't the reason for our poor play, it's probably more to do with the fact we're been pretty pish if you haven't seen us last 3/4 seasons. We've had quite a few wins on Hamiltons "plastic" park in recent seasons, we've also been scudded at Tynecastle, Dens and fir park in that time. Grass really helped us there. Other teams manage to play fine on it and beat us. It's going nowhere in the short term as Billy Bowie has said. If or when the training facility is built then we can reevaluate the pitch.

  36. Kilmarnock's 18-year-old defender, Iain Wilson, has been sent for a scan on a knee injury that forced him to be substituted against Aberdeen on Saturday. Fulham and Norwich City are following the progress of Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones, the 22-year-old who has also been earmarked for a Northern Ireland call-up and scored in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Aberdeen. Former Kilmarnock player Dylan Kerr, 50, is on course to lead Gor Mahia to the Kenyan league title after an eight-game unbeaten run took the Nairobi side nine points clear at the top of the table.

  38. Can you give a Net figure for the financial benefit to the club? I keep seeing this trotted out, but how much are we actually talking about and would it be cancelled out by the extra prize money for finishing a couple of places higher up the league? Iirc we used to budget for a seventh place finish and that's been downgraded to tenth. Is that the bottom line, the pitch allows us to aim lower in the league? The poor atmosphere is as a result of MJ's decisions and failing to engage with the local community, rather than anything to do with the size of the stadium imho. There have been plenty games since the stadium was built when the atmosphere was every bit as good as it is at the teams around us. Pricing should be revisited and I'm a long time advocate of making the East stand open seating. However, as with the pitch; too many have an irrational attachment to a piece of plastic.

I'm not obsessing about it, I'm replying to people who are so obsessed about it that they reply to my every post on the subject, try and soothe their bashed egos with a plethora of red cards and feel the need to try and close down all debate on the subject. The playground bullies are trying to takeover, you get nowhere by acceding to their demands.. If you disagree with them, you, rather than your argument, is attacked. It demonstrates their limited intelligence imo. I also have genuine concerns for their mental wellbeing and the physical safety of their loved ones. If this is how they react to a stranger disagreeing with them on the internet, how must they react behind closed doors?

It warms the cockles of auld BB's heart to see the local kids have somewhere to play. Unless you view it on tv. So are eco-homes.
