  3. What is it about being a Kilmarnock fan that is so special to you ??.. For myself , I am third generation Kilmarnock supporter despite having not been born or lived in the town . I have grown up in place going to schools and football teams totally dominated by Celtic and Rangers supporters . When in playground at lunch in school I wanted to be Kris Boyd and Naismith whilst they were Larson and Tore Andre Flo, luckily I was never contested in being my choice of player . Took total pelters for years and watched my heroes join their teams for them to take the piss even further . At one point I questioned why was it I supported killie whilst everyone else was supporting old firm . Going to games with my Dad and Papa every week watching and learning players names from both teams , I could name more players in their clubs squad than them . In reality they were the unlucky ones , the ones who made the occasional pre season friendly or the “killie” away game after their dodgy uncle managed to grab them a ticket . Only knowing players that they had seen on tv . Being brought up hating each other and becoming bigoted . By this point I had been allover Scotland watching us , it was the day I looked forward to most in the week , learning to and experiencing the heartbreak of us losing and not talking for hours after the game on drive home in a huff . To the highs of a last minute winner or equaliser driving my parents mental talking about how good we had been. I remember just going in to watch the teams warm up and trying to replicate some of skills I had seen at my own boys club on the following morning . Eventually I realised that the rest of my friends would never have the passion I do about their respective clubs . They were just one of millions in a bigoted bubble . We as a club have had some definite low points especially in these last 5 years and before that also whilst I have followed Kilmarnock but days recently such as beating Rangers on the 23rd December and having your day to lord it over the 6 or 7 hun pals you have is what football is all about . That win over Celtic in that 2012 cup final , one of the best days of my life . To be able to defy the odds that day and to share it with so many like minded people and go utterly mental as DVT nods it in the net with your Dad and Brother is the best thing about football .My Dad that day must have ran half a mile along the concourse at back of stand at Hampden celebrating and falling flat out in the process and almost certainly breaking his rib . Meeting other fans coming the other way oblivious to everything , sheer joy and a day that many of my friends can never imagine . That moment is what following a club like ours is all about . The chatting on here and social media to people you don’t even know , just recognise them from football and say Alright to them at the games. Sharing your delight with them because your club is back on track after a few years in the total darkness . Seeing the guys in the Hospitality the other day of varying ages all enjoying themselves and having one common interest is also what it’s about , going to the pub and talking s**te and forgetting work and the rest of the rubbish that gets thrown your way . Weekends can be made or ruined on a specific outcome between the hours of 3-5 on most Saturday afternoons . The wins are so good and having our club start to feel great again is brilliant . I am proud to be a fan of this great club . Hopefully a run in the cup can make some more great memories this year . Steve Clarke is a messiah hopefully he will be here for a long time . Forever and Ever

  5. I only got into football when i moved to Dundonald aged 10 and started going into killie games. A few of us from school used to go but i dont think any of them go now. Funnily enough i got my dad into supporting killie as i used to get him to take me to RP on a saturday when we first moved there. Moved to Dunoon in 1984 and still travel over for all home games and a fair few aways. Now got 2 boys of my own(19+23) who are both killie daft. I told them when they were young that they didnt need to support killie but they were not allowed to follow a*r,thistle or either of the bigots but they chose wisely. Proudest moment was the cup win in 2012 when i had my boys and my late dad with me,so happy my dad got to see us win a trophy as he missed 1997. Its not always been great following killie but i wouldnt change any of it,makes you appreciate the good times when they come KTID

  6. Quite a lot of Doonhamer connections coming up here. I moved to Dumfries from the Irvine valley in 1960 as a youngster aged 10 but had already been introduced to RP by my grandfather. I still remember that first game was against Airdrie in the late 50s and although I can't recall the score, I can still smell the piped tobacco surrounding me in the main stand. Followed Queens at Palmerston for a few years until old enough to travel up by train to see Killie as they always remained my first team. Often got lifted over the turnstyle. One cup trip against QOS was shared with three friends who were Queens fans and Killie absolutely murdered them. We had gone into one of the town's fancy stores for lunch ( think it was Lauders ) and thought we were really posh ------- they had white tablecloths. Kilmarnock always seemed to be a busy bustling town with crowds of shoppers, fancy shops and tremendous Christmas lights every year back in the 60s. Still a season ticket holder and attend away games when possible. Shared the good, bad and awful times but like many of us enjoying the current freshness around the place. Big games included the Easter Road survival with Tommy Burns, the Ibrox Cup Final, getting hammered at Hampden by Hibs but beating Celtic in the league cup final made up for that. Top players of the past Andy Kerr, Billy Dickson, Frank Beattie. More recently Freddie, Varielle, and our most exciting goalie Leko. Few have made the impact of Boydie and we've been lucky to have such a fantastic servant. Willie Waddell was always our top manager but maybe we can hold onto Steve Clarke long enough for him to compete. Let's hope so.

  7. Yes, I can picture the watercooler discussion in my head. " hey, did you see Kilmarnock let the Brora fans in for nothing and collected for a charity instead "......." Did they? I'm definitely going to their next home game then, that's it decided ". A winner!!

  8. Why the Old Firm, Rangers aren’t even the second best team in the country, so will aberdeen be invited too? Infact why not invite all the premier teams and we can set up our own league, call it the under 20s league or something.

  9. Clarke is good enough for Scotland without doubt. He wil not be the manager though. With regard to who does get the job, I couldn’t give a flying fook. We are Killie!!

  10. You also seem to have been influenced by the media. 'Failure' you've mentioned more than once. That was the narrative projected by English, Speirs et al. These characters are able to look at things in a black/white context. They say Strachan should've went after the first campaign as it ended in 'failure.' Yet they're quite happy to give O'Neil two campaigns if he 'fails' in the first...they said as much on SS. McKay was lambasted and his character was questioned due to poor vocabulary in private text messages. Strachan was criticised for his personal characteristics and a throwaway line about genetics. O'Neil was charged with drink-driving recently.....not a mention by the sports media...no question of his judgement, or character. Only one of the above is a crime....hypocritical bar-stewards. Careful who you're influenced by. Strachan was doing fine, making progress. Yes he wasn't perfect and he arguably made mistakes but he was improving the results with a group of limited players.

  11. Born in Dumfries lived 2 minutes from Palmerston Park supported QOS man and boy but don't see them to often. Moved to Glasgow 1995. Went to see Killie with my best mate when at school in Newton Mearns. Didn't really become a Killie fan until Tommy Burns arrived. Followed them through thick and thin since then. Memories 97 cup win, 02 league cup win beating Gets 3-0 at Ibrox. But I also remember losing to Brechin on a Tuesday night, 3 division football, Hibs game on the Friday night, the great players Burns, Montgomerie, McPherson, Mitchell, Clarke, McDicken, the Killie Pie. However for me the best bit is when you are in Glasgow and you see a face you know, away from the place you normally see them, you have never spoken to the person, but you recognise them and instantly know he/she is a Killie fan. And that means they are alright. Killie great club, proud history, brilliant fans. KTID

  12. Similar situation to the first post. Grew up in Barrhead, Uncle from Killie. Dad a former Celtic fan who instructed me to "follow anyone you want, just not Celtic or Rangers". Managed to convinced my uncle to take me to Rugby Park. Hes never been a mad follower of football, but me and my old man went along. 1-1 draw with Rangers thanks to a last minute Johnson penalty. That was the last time my uncle was at RP. My Dad is now a Killie fan through me. He wouldnt have it any other way, and even refers to Killie as "us" and "we" now. That day in 2012 when we lifted that cup, he was as happy as he'd ever been at a football game. Love Killie and everything its gave me in life.

  14. As for Killie, I grew up in Saltcoats. Quite a few Killie fans in my school but mostly Celtic. My mums family are all Celtic, her dad was in Lisbon 67 etc. Best part is that although all my mums siblings are Celtic fans, out of the 12 grandchildren, 7 of them are Killie fans and 5 of us go regularly! My dad grew up in Onthank/Shortlees and he and my aunt took me to games as a kid. His dad was an Ayr fan so we had a lucky escape! Some of my best mates are guys I've met through following Killie. Been all over Europe with them following Killie/Scotland/going to Ibiza etc. Been to countless weddings/stags etc of boys I've met through Killie. Was in Park Suite on Saturday with over 120 boys most of whom I've known for years and wouldn't have it any other way. it's just what we do on a Saturday - go and watch Killie.

  16. Kilmarnock was my team before I even got a chance to see them. My dad working in school with George Maxwell got me involved. We got seasons tickets from about '79 on. We shared the high and lows of going up and down divisions, getting gubbed 1-8 and 1-6 in close weeks by the glasgow duo. The joy of bonding over the final in '97 and having european jaunts to Nice and Shelbourne. Our shared love of killie lasted until our last days together. Unable to talk much and paralysed, my dad always wanted " get the 3 points on Saturday". How he would love to see the club in the good state it is presently, on and off the pitch.

  18. I don't think the prospect of a couple of meaningless friendlies and home/away games against Albania and Israel would be enough to entice a full time Club manager into taking the position on. It's wide open for McLeish, an out of favour coach looking for a job. Saying that though, with talk of O'Neil being offered £600,000 per year for part time work, who knows what could happen.

  19. Stokes on his day is a great player. Could really bring something to the team. He’s having his day less and less. Then there’s all the baggage that comes along with him. Not sure if I’d take him or not

  20. Hoping the lack of activity is due to us aiming high with the quality of player we're after. We won't get more guys like Mulumbu til the 11th hour when they have no other options. Don't think we need lots of players.........cover at cb and competition for Boyd is about all unless players leave.

  23. Remember the drive home from 2007 final against Hibs leaving at Full time hearing them belting out sunshine on leith in background . Hairs on my neck standing up . Few years before (01)seeing us lose to Celtic after a few Larson goals . Thinking will we ever get a win . Remember Dargo running from halfway in semi in 2001 against st Mirren on a freezing night at Hampden . Also dean Shiels scoring against the unwashed in last minute of extra time in semi in 2012. Personal favourite was the semi final where Naisy my absolute hero at time was unplayable that third goal was incredible . Obviously the DVT oblivion that followed was incredible. Think this is our year again to go far .

  26. Being a killie fan is special to me because: It expresses a refusal to be polarised - to be beyond the norm. To me every howl of anger and pain from a killie fan is a howl of anger and pain for minorities across the globe - as, too, those all too infrequent moments of sheer, uncontrollable joy (from Burke's last minute equaliser against the Huns, to Big D's winner against sellic) are the celebration of the underdog and the downtrodden - moments when you truly know what it is to be alive! It is not easy being addicted to, or perchance obsessed with, a wee team: I have been going since I was a boy, I have passed this addiction to my eldest son - I have often apologised to him for this. But it's really all about who you are is it not? As Sailor (Nic Cage) said in 'Wild at Heart': "Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom?" Good readin aw yer posts

  27. Now that’s fking ridiculous. Being injured does not prevent you from being tested out f competition. To even insinuate in the slightest that one of the hardest working and fittest and most outspoken anti drugs in tennis voices is somehow a drugs cheat, is on a par with Phillip Hammond’s alien comments.

  28. F Scotland , in fact I think they should disband the national team --- they can't get an Alky Irishman to take the managers job and half the players aren't really Scottish so just give up because no matter how many countries are allowed to gualify for world cups or euros Scotland ain't ever going to gualify

  29. As I've mentioned on his forum before, my first Killie 'experience' was the 1957 League Cup final against Falkirk back in the days when they could actually beat us occasionally in big games. Freezing weather but I was warm as toast, tucked up inside my pregnant mum's belly. You may be surprised that I don't actually remember much of the experience but the club has definitely been in my blood since even before I was born and will be until I die. As an aside, when I hear complaints from fans about the obstructed view obtained at Celtic Park, no one had a worse view of the match at Hampden than me............could see f**k all.

  31. Or what we used to do Praying for a cup final so I can come back home! Been there through the tough years and the game before I left was the 0-0 draw with Falkirk to stay up. Gutted I’m missing out on the SC era but a cup final or a trip to Europe will more than certainly make up for it for me!

  35. Started attending RP as a 9 year old with my mates. We'd go to one of two places in the ground - if we could get a 'lift ower' we'd head for the floodlight pylon at the corner flag at the Rugby Road end and climb up the structure to get a great view. Below us against the fencing seemed to be a pal of Davie Provan's - whoever he was he talked to Provan every time he came over to take a corner and we overheard some interesting wee exchanges. If we failed to get 'lifted' we'd head for the enclosure. This was second choice because if we'd had to pay to get in, we couldn't use our entry money to stuff ourselves at the Costello Garden Grill. At the end of the game - being young fit lads - we'd belt along the road to the old bus station next to Goldbergs to get our grub and make sure we got a seat on the bus back to Springside. My grandad and uncle had convinced me to support Rangers which annoyed my old man, so he took me to my first game even though he hated fitba' and even though it was a complete humping fae Partick - 4 or 5-1, I think - I was hooked from day one. Too many great and s**te memories to go into detail but I'll remember them all till the day I pop my clogs. KTID

  36. The Killie brand has been toxic for years. We have had four failed managerial appointments, near relegation, falling crowds and a very public civil war with our past chairman. A good manager and a string of positive results is helping to turn the tide. A good gimmick would have us splashed all over the newspapers, guaranteed tv coverage and a main radio talk show subject. We would get the equivalent of 10s of thousands of pounds of advertising for less than £3000. But more importantly the media and the public, for a change, would be talking positively about Killie (except for the usual suspects on fans' forums). Would we get any immediate return from our investment? Probably not. But long term I believe it would make a difference and would certainly have a much bigger impact than spending £10,000 lowering prices by £5.

  38. Ama gonna try that next time I'm in Morrisons ... fill ma trolley then ask the manager if I can get it all free , after all what's 150£ ? I'm sure the publicity , media coverage and free advertising this would give them would be money well spent and pay for itself many times over in the long term . You're right , some folk just don't get marketing !
    1 point
  39. Some folk just don't get marketing. It would be a great idea to let them in free. 300 fans, taking in concessions, would raise less than £5000 - half to Brora £2,500 The publicity, media coverage and free advertising this would give us would be money well spend and pay for itself many times over in the long term. Have buckets for the Brora fans to make a donation which we then give to a well deserving charity a couple of weeks later and you add to the publicity. The more folk hear about the 'new' Kilmarnock the more likely they will be to attend/ return to the Theatre of Pies.

  47. SFA have made an arse of this. They had a good manager in Gordon Strachan. They got rid of him purely to save themselves from the pressure that would mount from the media if they continued with him (IMO). They failed to get 'their' number 1 target (or the medias), they ruled out McKay after they felt pressured to say so due to growing criticism from the media asking what is he, Project Brave, or managerial candidate?' Now it's being suggested McKay is a possibility from some quarters. They're now running around with their hair on fire when all they had to do was grow a set and extend Stachan's contract leaving them with a good manager. Shambles!
