  1. First Friday night TV game I’ve got back in from and NOT immediately reached for the delete button! Yeah, there was a long spell from our third goal til about 80 mins where it all got a wee bit angsty (which other set of fans are still nervous at 3-1 up v 10 men??) but when you win 3-1 away to your arch rivals to top the league, how the the match actually unfolded is probably immaterial. Churlish to criticise any individual performance as collectively they gave us a great result in a fixture in which all of the pressure was on Killie. Fraser Murray was probably the pick for Killie, being directly involved in all three goals but overall we were at times brilliant, dogged, snarly when we needed to be, but ultimately professional in seeing it out reasonably comfortably in the end. Two wins at Somerset in the same season?? Yes please!
  2. This. Said something similar a few months ago, but at that time it was Hemming and Hendry. Apart from these three, realistically who would you want in the team should we be fortunate enough to get promoted? Not saying the rest are necessarily bad players-F Murray has shown glimpses of capability and McKenzie (who was shocking tonight when he came on) had a three game spell where he briefly morphed into McKante-but it’s just such a sea of mediocrity we’re being served up, week in week out. Fed up coming away from matches now, with the same soulless, uninspired feeling, regardless of the actual result.
  3. I’m pompous and self-righteous?? That’s rich, coming from the most self-aggrandising poster on here! Your argument there for the merits of nuclear weaponry is full of “if” “most likely” and “probably”. Nothing you could conceivably substantiate. They represent a complete waste of money that would be better spent elsewhere and nothing you’ve said has convinced me otherwise. Sincere apologies if this is too spurious, self righteous or pompous. ☮️
  4. You’re undermining your own argument here, especially citing Israel and India/Pakistan, two of the world’s perennial flashpoints. Nuclear weapons have deterred nothing. Anywhere. We have a prime example here, right now, with Putin. They are a colossal waste of resources that governments of all political leanings would be better off diverting and serving their own citizens more appropriately. Oh, you kind of gave yourself away with your first sentence. It read like the disarmament equivalent of “I’m no racist, but..”
  5. Well they didn’t deter the invasion of Ukraine. Nor Saddam marauding through the Gulf. Nor massacres in Bosnia… In fact I’m struggling to think of a single instance of nuclear capability being of any discernible use in “keeping the peace”. They are nothing but a scandalous waste of money; a theft of public funds that would better routed to Health Care, Education, Transport infrastructure, alleviating fuel poverty etc; any number of woefully resourced areas of national expenditure. The only people who benefit from the mutual stockpiling of nuclear arsenals are nationalistic politicians with a mutual need for domestic distractions and,of course, their party donating big business friends in the arms trade.
  6. Good to see Boris impose swift sanctions on Russia for “flagrant violation” of agreements and breaches of international law. Just checking, can’t seem to see the UK response to Israel doing the exact same in Palestine.
  7. Sometimes this site can be a truly dispiriting place ( mostly aided and abetted by equally dispiriting displays from the team). What it does well though, is rally round Killie fans they know, and Killie fans they don’t, with genuinely supportive messages when they’re needed most. Sincere condolences for your loss. You’ve paid a lovely tribute there which I’m sure will resonate much wider than this site, or even Killie supporters. Faithers and Fitba’, eh? Bless them all.
  8. Arguably the worst result in their history today. Lost by 6 goals to a team which was in the bottom half of the third tier, and who have just been promoted out of the fourth tier. Saw a crazy stat earlier. They are the first team ever to have been champions of England at least six times, and lose 6 goals in a third tier match. Not sure ‘Streaky’ is going to survive this. Looks like automatic promotion is gone already and the current run doesn’t bode well for guaranteeing a play off place.
  9. Signed Patrick Roberts (remember him?) on a permanent deal from Man City. Should be a real standout in League One and on the surface a real statement of intent from Sunderland. Cant afford another season in the third tier.
  10. Sunderland doesn’t have any Tory MPs. Nor does Newcastle. I think one Middlesbrough constituency (South) voted Tory, but you’d be completely forgiven for thinking that there were no Labour MPs left in the NE of England given the frenzy the right wing media worked themselves into about “smashing down the Red Wall”.
  11. Well done to LJ on going top of the league. Hopefully going to get Sunderland promoted this season. The return of the Tyne—Wear derby next season is merely added incentive.
  12. Every managerial appointment carries a degree of risk. Look how “safe pair of hands” Tommy Wright turned out. Neil Lennon has had nine months out of football, plenty of time for self reflection and a bit of perspective. A club like Kilmarnock in the Championship probably presents an attractive proposition for him. Although not without its own challenges and pressures, it is surely seen as an opportunity to progress a decent sized club, away from some of the glare of Scottish Football’s more intense scrutiny. If other people want to take pot shots at him because of his mental health issues, religion or even his ginger hair, then let them. I’m far more interested in what positives he could bring to Killie. Where we are at the moment it would certainly be a bold move, but a risk worth taking. Oh, and given where he played on the park, he might just see our centre-mid/leadership problem as his top priority.
  13. First game after Wright’s departure. First win from behind. Mmm…
  14. Isn’t it odd that lots of right wing media, Tory politicians and indeed some folk on here, who were previously dismissive of “the science” have now suddenly become great aficionados of “the science” on the publication of a report that omicron is likely to cause less serious illness? Whilst this indeed is welcome, less encouraging, and not quite given similar prominence, is the small print that booster efficacy wanes after ten weeks ( ten weeks!); omicron shows some signs of evading vaccines and reinfection is much more likely than with the Delta variant. Maybe not quite time to throw off the shackles completely then? (daily cases over six figures and swathes of sporting teams unable fulfil fixtures probably tells its own story) Personally I’m happy to trust the scientists, even if means that I’m going to miss out on a few football matches and a couple of gigs in the meantime.
  15. In what way will England have a “much better festive than us”? Higher infection rates? More hospital admissions? Greater staff absences?? You’re right. That is depressing indeed.
  16. Judging by its size, it clearly belongs to Tinto. Must have misplaced it after his latest photo shoot.
  17. Thought for a minute I’d stumbled on to the Tory back benches given some of the reaction on here. R number at three and rising, so makes perfect sense to increase restrictions for three weeks or so. ( although it should have been postponements rather than the pointless tokenism of 500 fans at matches. That’s practically the worst of options) Three weeks of restrictions at least gives time to get thousands more boosted, and maybe more chance to determine the severity of omicron. Remember, even if it turns out it’s milder, the sheer volume infected will inevitably mean significant numbers require hospital treatment, putting additional strain on the NHS. Agree with comments that all of this shows a real need for additional resources and infrastructure in the NHS to cope with any future outbreaks, and save having to lockdown or impose harsh restrictions. I’d start with the £20bn earmarked for trident.
  18. I’d go... 1.Hemming, Er, that’s about it, really.
  19. Pretty telling that hundreds of fans didn’t even bother waiting to see if the game would restart when a temporary halt was announced. Those of us that did stay were just praying it wouldn’t. Another awful performance. Another showing up by a ‘lesser’ team. Another week where the opposition pass and move with ease through our midfield. Another week when it becomes clearer that the current squad isn’t good enough. Another week in which the manager’s tactical shortcomings are exposed. Another week in which promotion looks increasingly unlikely. Another week that underlines how much we need a change. Soon.
  20. What?? I genuinely don’t understand your syntax. (Nor your logic) What does that first sentence mean? What are the “regards” in which he is “head and shoulders above most guys around the Scottish game”. Who are they? How are you measuring this? If his ‘potential’ is so ‘obvious’ why is he sat on his arse in a TV studio?
  21. Nothing but a continuation of last season. Cant change a game, won’t drop certain players and excruciating to watch. is that zero points gained from losing positions this season?
  22. Zorro, you’re not supposed to have multiple accounts.
