historyman
Good match to watch and Aberdeen made a real game of it until the last 15-20 minutes. Shame they couldn't hold out until extra time. I wonder if that will be the last game for macinness. He's done a really good job over the last few years.
skygod
Agreed, good match to watch with lots of chances. But what happened to Aberdeen's fitness? They were out on their knees the last 20 minutes. And Rooney looked so slow when he came on.
piffer
Thought McInnes got his subs all wrong. Stockley was causing problems without doing much. Breaking the LBs jaw aside. Rooney isn't that player and took away from Dons momentum. Biggest mistake was replacing McGinn with a defensively minded player. Let Celtic move up the park and only a matter of time before they scored.

There was no point in playing for extra-time - it would have been a bloodbath.

Wrangodog
When a team passes the ball and retains possession then the team running about trying to gain possession from them reaches a point around 60-70 minutes when they start to struggle physically. Aberdeen fought well but quality told in the end. From about 70 minutes the result was painfully obvious.
piffer
Watching the highlights and I can't think why O'Connor doesn't trip Rogic. He's just got by him 15 or so yards outside the box and going 1vs1 with the fullback. It's not pretty but click his heels take the booking and defend the free kick. At the other end of the park that's exactly what would've been done no doubt about it. Countless times over the years we've seen players take one for the team and who knows what the outcome would have been if O'Connor had done it yesterday
Gaz of the 20/20
Aberdeen were flagging and although I don't disagree they blew it by not taking their numerous chances when they had Celtic on the ropes for a bit. Celtics fitness would likely have prevailed in extra time.
mitch14
Really enjoyed the game but big question marks over McInnes. He seemed to assume a Celtic onslaught and, by changing the system, invited one. Scottish managers need to try into the Shiels mentality of keeping at them - the goal we scored in the league cup final had half the team in the box.

This Celtic team gives the other team no peace anywhere on the park and even when they were crap yesterday for the first 65-70 minutes, Celtic were making Aberdeen work fkn hard for everything they got and eventually it told. Yeah can't disagree with that, they are ridiculously good. They are, annoyingly, slipping into that territory where I almost like that team. Big fan of Tierney and Armstrong

historyman
Harsh to criticise Macinness as his game plan had worked perfectly for 70 mins. They just run out of legs and that was understandable. Easy to criticise the subs in hindsight but Stockley isn't a goal scorer so bringing on Rooney made sense and he could have taken off Hayes as he was knackered. Agree with the previous post that O'Connor should have brought down Rogic To run Celtic that close was an achievement in itself as they are miles ahead in Scotland.

Big fan of Tierney and Armstrong I rate McGreggor too, wasn't brilliant when he went into defence, but at least he can play in a few positions. Ryan Jack and Kenny McLean impressed too as did Hayes and if Ash Taylor had a Scottish granny he'd be in the squad for Wembley!
