skygod
How much would it cost - at manufacturer's prices - to give each seven year-old in East Ayrshire a home top? Could a sponsor underwrite the cost? It seems a great idea to get the club's identity embedded in the community again. We all recognise that the support is ageing and something dramatic is needed to turn that around. Bullitt
See, for me, this is a fantastic idea. A wonderful idea to engage younger fans.
PrestersKtid
good idea but big cost involved...especially if it’s newest top.
red_dug
Costs my prohibit this exact scheme but surely something could be done along those lines. How about Killie branded pens, pencils etc for schools? Just an idea but cheaper than strips. Difficult to attract youngsters to anything these days......junior golf is dying on its arse because it doesn't provide the instant gratification that they all crave. A bit like supporting Killie!
Bullitt
It wouldn't cost for every school to get free home tickets for every match. Get the school to sort with parents etc through PTA to have adults accompany the kids. Killie only need to supply tickets for all Ayrshire schools and have them in the Moffat stand. Kids get a snack, programme and a wee scarf at the games and this should be something every provincial club in Scotland should be doing to engage young fans. I know Accies do it... why not us??
Caldow
How about giving away tops after Christmas/ or come to a game and ge a free top? Then it wouldn’t impact on sales for those who want the latest strip when it comes out. Make it that seasons top and not an obvious free shirt which might cause embarrassment (knowing how kids are).
CB
Nike teamwear tops, with logos/badges is what, £30 retail, £10 wholesale, £5 cost? 'Nike school sports day' big companies like that are always looking for good pr to offset the bad pr of child labour. Hold it in the oner at that athletics place. Nike supply the tops gratis (good pr right off) Do it at the end of the season, round the time of school sports days. Kids get the brand new following season tops. Would go down a treat if we did a 150 special. Kids wear it over the summer hols. Bigger kids can get them at the start of the season.

CB has beaten me to it but adult shirts cost around £5 to manufacture. Other costs are profit, distribution, marketing and VAT (children's clothing exempt?). Parents complain about the cost of replica kits - give them a top and they only have to worry about the rest of the kit, if they bother. JAMs will love that the kid has a shirt they will wear all summer long (when it's not in the wash!). Pens and pencils wouldn't have any impact, imo.
historyman
It certainly doesn't cost anything for players to visit local schools. That alone can make a huge impact on young kids.

In the last week or so we've had the squad pay a visit to Grange Academy to open their new astro turf pitch, while Greig Kiltie made a surprise visit to his old primary school in Galston to take a PE lesson.
Wrangodog
Good idea, although EPL are having money thrown at them for their TV deal. Leicester made more out of the Champions League than Real did for winning the thing. If we could do something on a smaller scale it would be good.

trenwick
Easy to give away kid freebies when you get £200 million tv money + money for being in EPL, good idea though but not really a goer with our budget

To be fair to the club they do engage with schools in exactly this way, although not every game. PD'G is very supportive. As my school is for ASN pupils all the kids who take tickets have adults accompanying them to the game. As a result of this club interaction more than half of our pupils who have a football interest support their local team. (And we're working on the rest!)
jam1869
A good PR stunt would be to go round schools at xmas with goodie bags (including a shirt if poss). I know they do it at the children's ward at crosshouse, but how good would a kid feel getting a goodie bag from a pro footballer at xmas?

RayD
Back when I was going to Strikers games, they had giveaways every week to first "x amount" of kids through the gate. Each one was sponsored by a local/national company. Frisbees, bobble heads, hats, etc Always something going on locally, always covered by the media (this may be a major flaw in the plan), and always involving the kids. Get the kids involved, parents will be dragged along and those kids will likely be future adult fans bringing their kids.
gdevoy
A game at Christmas, each paid for parent and child through the gate gets a free child's replica top. Surely that kind of idea would have no actual cost to the club, it wold pay for itself. Get some KFC tops into the community to displace the flood of EPL ones I see the weans wearing everywhere.
Kfcinlancashire
Forget what the EPL teams are doing the television money distorts everything. We should be looking at clubs like Bradford and Huddersfield for ideas. Both boosted crowds with cheap season tickets and free tickets in schools. Increased crowds gave them better atmosphere and increased match day revenue. In Huddersfield's case the bigger crowds helped get better loan players and look where they are now. Our poor home record is not helped by the complete lack of atmosphere at Rugby Park these days.
