I'd be bitterly disappointed if that was the case. He's had two bad injuries which the club has stuck by him on, paid his salary and probably paid for specialist support. I think he owes us to sign an extension!

Reasonable points but what other option did the club have? He was under contract so they had no choice but to stick by him and pay his salary.

If I had two bad injuries and had any doubt about the pitch being the cause then I'd be off too. .

Although who would buy someone who's been injured for last 18 months?

Kiltie is holding all the cards right now.

Real Madrid and Jonathan Woodgate?!

I'm not sure he does hold all the cards. He has four months to prove to a new manager that he is worth a new - and better - contract, or to attract offers from other clubs.

I'm sure clubs will be watching closely how he does in that time so he will be under some pressure to stay fit and impress.

If he leaves, Killie will still be due a development fee.

He has every right to go in the summer, but the club have every right not to play him also.

Will be a gamble for him to be so long without playing and therefore a gamble for any team taking him on.

Unless he has an absolute issue with playing on the park, then a year and a half contract from now could be the best thing for both parties.

I’m sure he will sign a new deal still young and has a lot to prove .

This. He's not going to get the kind of move he deserves if he goes in the summer, and he'd most likely be moving to a poorer manager.

I honestly think he'll sign a two year extension, with a view to moving in January/summer 2019.

I mean why would he want to leave a team with Steve Clarke as manager , five minutes from his house . Probably one of our higher earners . Guaranteed start . Only 20 . Been out for year and a half . He could develop into Clarke’s main man and get a big move when he is fit and back among the goals . Instead of moving to a team with probably a lesser manager and having to move House etc .

Guaranteed start? Very much doubt that

I’d go as far as saying Kiltie is our best attacking player . He has an eye for a pass and scored goals from number 10 . Unfortunately two injuries have set him back . He is well thought of by many in the league and is an excellent player . IF he gets fit and back into squad I think he will play every week no question as he has fantastic ability . Jones is likely to leave but I’d say Kiltie is a better player than him on his day .

He has only played about 60 league games in three years mainly due to injury and his goal return is not outstanding.

For me, a player that young, to have missed so many games, not scored that many goals and have some level of payment required, makes him a bit of a gamble for any club coming in for him. He might not find it that easy to get a decent move at the moment and if Clarke doesn't play him because he knows he is going then he will be in the same position in the summer.

He has been out of the game so long that he probably needs to rebuild his reputation as a young player with great potential.
If he doesn't play much between now and the summer then any club that signs him (ourselves included) will be taking a bit of a gamble.
His injuries might have an impact on the length of contract that clubs are prepared to offer him and the length of deal he is offered might be a big factor in where he ends up. As a result of the injuries he has suffered I would say he is currently less attractive to other clubs than he was when he re-signed for the club before.

IMO it would make sense for Kiltie to extend his deal. The problem is if the pitch has impacted his injuries or even if he simply believes it has he won’t want to continue on it for long.

I’d agree with the sentiment above that he is our best all round attacker. For me a fit and on form Kiltie would be one of the first names on the team sheet and would be far more suited to that free role Jones has been playing than JJ is.

Three points why I think players will stay and even extend their contracts

1) Steve Clarke is the manager and players will learn more from him than sitting warming a bench in the English leagues.

2) Now don't laugh, possibility of being part of a cup winning team, which then leads to point

3) Possibility of playing European football next year and the few years that follow the Steve Clarke revolution :2:

I think having Clarke is huge. He seems to have done a good job so far of making everyone feel wanted. He’s getting the best out of the players as well.

For the young players we’ve had managers who have been at a high level. This guy has been at the very top. Too many youngsters get touted for going to the top but the guys they are working with have never been there. Clarke has been involved with dominant teams at their peak. The youngsters will hopefully want to learn from him

I like the way SC does his business-quietly and efficiently. In the past numerous names would have been leaked to the press with stories about how we were interested in X,Y & X.

On the other hand perhaps we arent going to sign anyone at all?

By saying that we dont need to sign anyone SC is obviously keeping all the players on his side with the belief that they have a role to play when called upon.

Perhaps we simply have no budget left and unless one, two or more leave then the squad stays as it is

Perhaps SC doesn’t believe any of the players who are realistically available are significantly better than what we have.

Perhaps SC is working to sign a few crackers or is keeping his powder dry for the summer.

any way it is I have faith in his judgement.  It hasn’t been wrong so far.

The spine of the side struggle to play 3 games in a week - Greer, Broadfoot, Power, Dicker, Mulumbu and Boyd. It showed at Easter Road and the first few weeks after the break is hectic. Some fresh blood (and legs) would be very useful!

Except we didn’t play three games that week! However, the point is valid and I thought it was evident against Motherwell ( which was a three game week) when Dicker and Mulumbu got deeper and deeper as the game wore on. That they stuck to their task despite their lack of fitness was to their credit, but it was a game we might just as easily have lost. The positive is that we’ve been on such a good run with some players not entirely match fit. Certainly bodes well, though if SC thought this would be a problem long term, I’m sure he’d address it.
