harley
I knew at the end of extra time that we were out. We are worse at penalty shoot outs than England against Germany. I was at the Tennent Caledonian Cup in 79 & I don't think I have seen us win one since. It didn't help when Brophy took that stupid stance before his and before anyone slates me I love Eamonn as a player. The wee man has a rocket of a shot. Why didn't he just blast it. -
Waverley
We also beat Brighton on penalties in the semi-Final of the Tenent Caledonian cup; we made that hard though as Alan Robertson took the 5th kick to win and missed. We won I think on the 6th kick, possibly Ian Gibson. We were involved in one of the first ever penalty shoot outs in a two legged Ayrshire Cup final, I'm thinking around early seventies and Alex Cairns took one. I can't remember if we won or not!

Dundee knocked us out of the Anglo-Scottish cup on away goals that season though. We did actually win a couple of other shoot outs in the 80s league cups, v Alloa and Cowdenbeath. My memory isn't so good then. I thought I remembered that game really well as it was one of the most exciting of that era (was it a QF?) but clearly I couldn't even remember the penalty kicks!

Colin Brown
It was bobby street that hit the bar and it did soar straight up into the air. This miss cost us the penalty shootout. The goal to get us back on level terms was scored by paul clark .We had lost the first leg 3-2.So then 90 minutes 3-3 we ended up winning the game 3-2 so a 5-5 aggregate score hence the penalties.

Kiote also played in that tourney. Dayton made his debut and Medhi was a class above at times. Think it was against Biddeford when there was a lonely soul the other side of the park from most fans cranking out 'Ayr, Ayr, f**k your Ayr'. Taking the cause to North Devon- impressive level of hatred!

skygod
There was a lot of trialists on that tour - Dayton, Letheren, Silva, Sissoko, Shroot and Kioyo who was a Cameroun/ German. The penalty kicker doesn't look like Shroot. The only match report I can find says that the only kicker who missed was Kelly but it’s not him. Could it be Daniel McKay, who was on the tour and scored a penalty in another match? Edited March 16, 2018 by skygod

Drove back to the Jolly Farmers after the game & some of the guys who had left early didn't even know we had scored 2 goals in the last 4 minutes to take it to penalties. The look on their faces when I told them we had won on penalties was priceless. In fact when I went into work the next day one of the guys was reading the Record & he said to me I hate losing to those H**n bastards. I said "Josie, look at the sport pages" Haha, I have never left early from a game since. I have an old Shoot magazine somewhere which shows us getting presented with the cup on the front cover & you can see me jumping in the background in the old Ibrox enclosure. If I can find it I will post the pic.

historyman
That's a pretty impressive record from the spot. I don't actually remember Stuart McLean getting the abuse that is sometimes mentioned in the forum. I thought he was a good player for us and of course he was part of that fantastic back five for many years. Speaking of which, having seen the interview with PC I would love to see the 5 of them reunited to do the half time draw at a home game. They must have well over 1,000 appearances between them.
Asasaid
Did not not notice that, the only stat I seen was that apart from Tuesday's game (because it's too soon) is that all the players that missed penalties no longer play with us.....
