Match Report

Sandy Armour @ McDairmid Park

It was a damp and miserable day in Perth and the mood of the 350 battle hardened Killie fans matched the weather as they trudged into the soulless McDiarmid Park it seemed everyone was on a downer after shipping 10 goals in the last two games albeit against the top two teams in the country. Lee Clark had made changes with Tyson leading the line, Jones reintroduced wide left and Martin Smith back in the heart of midfield. Addison partnered Burn at centre half whilst Hendrie and Taylor filled the full back roles.

The first half was largely controlled by the hosts with McDonald making one excellent save from a header but apart from a chalked off goal there wasn't much in the way of clear cut chances. Killie had looked a little dangerous on the break and the longer the half went the more we got the ball on the deck and looked a bit of a threat.

Burn was taking off with a nasty face knock midway through the half and was replaced by Scott Boyd.

The second period was much better from Killie and it was substitute Boyd who bundled the ball over the line for the only goal of the game. As the game opened up Killie looked much better with Jones catching the eye with some great direct running. There were a few scares along the way however it was never a backs to the wall job and we may well have increased the lead with some better decision making in the final third.

The final whistle was greeted with roars of relief from the Killie faithful who had been worrying where our next win was coming from. There were several fine performances, Jones and Hendrie were excellent and honourable mentions for Taylor, Smith and Addison. Our travels continue this week as we venture further up the A9 to Inverness. Here's hoping the win at Perth is the catalyst to a run of results that could see us quickly climb a tightly packed table.

Comments

Lee Clark:

"It's been a long two weeks since the Aberdeen game. There's been a lot of soul-searching and debriefing of that defeat. We had a chat about where I felt we had gone wrong in the previous two games to where I felt we'd been before Celtic. By the end we were still disappointed with our output in those two games but there was a realism about what we are up against in Aberdeen and Celtic, two outstanding sides, two clubs poles apart with us.We got the positivity back and people were starting to look about and feel there was a decent side there. We've shown that today against a very good side. It's our first clean sheet as well and we've got that bit of magic from a set-piece to give us the win. Jamie was outstanding again, as he was in every game. It was good to get Miles Addison back for his first start in a month too. I just told him it was no coincidence that we get that clean sheet today."
