Match Recap

The League One part-timers looked on course to cause a Betfred Cup upset until Kris Boyd was introduced just after the hour mark.

Killie did well to re-group early-on after losing defensive duo Greg Taylor and Stuart Findlay following a horror clash of heads on 19 minutes.

The sickening crack when the pair collided attempting to head a loose ball in the penalty area could clearly be heard at the opposite end of the pitch.

Goals either side of half-time from Craig and Bobby Barr sandwiched a Mikael Ndjoli strike and put Dumbarton in the driving seat.
Yet, with his first touch after replacing Erwin club skipper Boyd hooked the ball into the net to draw Killie level for a second time.

Boyd made it 3-2 when he rose to head home a Chris Burke corner before putting the icing on the cake when out-sprinting Andy Dowie and then firing past Grant Adam in the final minute.

Steve Clarke: “I expected him (Boyd) to score when he went on to the pitch, but I didn’t expect three. If you put quality deliveries into the box then Kris will always be a goal threat. I thought he would help us when he went on and that is the way it transpired.”
“The boys (Greg Taylor and Stuart Findlay) are both very sore. The next time they will maybe give each other a shout. It was quite a sickening thud, but thankfully they are both ok. Stuart’s eye swelled up and closed so there was no way he could carry on. Greg wanted to stay on the pitch, but the doctor said his cut was too big. But, there is no concussion and if they are fit to play on Tuesday night they will play.”

Steve Aitken : “We asked them a few questions and then they brought on the country’s top scorer.”
