  1. There is also a generation of fans who remember both him and earlier players/management who deserve just as much, for me - more, reverence as Tommy (who was great for us, no argument from me on that) receives. McCulloch, McLean, Robertson, Clarke, McDicken, Bourke etc. all achieved what Tommy did, without the full time rest, daily training (and wages to match!) - so why are these guys not given as much praise? Plus, they didn't leave when their first love came calling (and again, I've no ill feeling towards Tommy for that - it's a powerful call) - but maybe Kilmarnock was the first love for these players. That's important. That generation deserves praise as much as any person as I've seen in a Kilmarnock strip.

  2. Read wigan fans opinions on him. They think he's a great guy and give plenty of examples as to why. Turning up to supporters functions etc. I didnt like him as a rangers player but that was mainly because of his 'win at all costs' approach. Now that he's in our dugout i'm more than happy for him to adopt that same approach if it gets us up the league.

  5. That night was the last time I had been at a St.Johnstone away match till today when I took my 9 year old Killie daft son up,thought about TB a lot on the way up & have a nice wee smile on my face writing this thinking about him still. LEGEND isn't even close to what Tommy was & still is in the eyes of those of us lucky enough to have followed Killie back then. KTID

  6. I was a ball boy at Rugby Park during the TB erra, and he always made time for us ball boys and made sure to speak to us every home game. I remember being a young boy crying when he left. So for me I feel I have an emotional attachment to him as a person and what he done for the club. However that doesn't mean I don't hold reverence for those greats that came before, I am actually jealous of those fans that were there when we won the league, or watched us get to later round of european tournaments, and have that emotional attachment and vivid recollection. I will never forget Ibrox in 97 or John Finnie st afterwards. I think the fact that topics regarding TB appear more frequently than other great players is just more to do with the generation that grew up in the 90s are more likely to be on message boards, than those from the 60s.

  7. We need more transparency from the other board members in this. Are they happy to work with him or do they want him removed? As far as I know there is nothing to stop them making a statement that it would be in the best interests of the club if he left and they do not want to work with him. If those are their views then why don't they state them publicly and let the fans know whose side they are on? I would feel a lot better knowing that the rest of the board felt the same way as the fans and were trying to do something about it. But at the moment for all I know the other directors are quite happy to have him there and as long as he is there we will all believe that he is a significant amount of influence over the decision making processes of the club - whether this is real or imagined it is the perception that counts and it continues to damage the club.

  9. Someone close to the club says we shouldn't have a season ticket boycott. Why does that not surprise me? Don't do this people, go and do that instead. Are we really falling for that? It's not about money, its about making a point, why should we not do it, it will have the same effect as any protest in the ground! We should do both. If the club don't want a season ticket boycott then that is exactly what we should be doing, not rolling over and doing what they want us to do instead. I would also suggest if we really want to get to Michael Johnston then we forego the match day protest and roll up at the next Marr College rugby match with some banners and some songs and that will do his ego more damage than 20 protests at Rugby Park. Some leaflets on the cars at his golf club would be another nail in his coffin.

  11. Thought we were excellent. Started brilliantly and Saints could have had no complaints if we'd scored three or four. Longstaff and McKenzies pressing game was superb and led to the opening goal. Saints weren't in it in the first half hour. They got more involved towards the end but never put us under pressure. Second half Saints were more into it. Felt we played more on the back foot. We defended well and didn't give them clear cut chances. Got the second at a really important time with a little help from their keeper. From that point the game fizzled out. There were a few iffy moments with another new back four but they grew as a unit. The midfield three of Dicker, McKenzie and Longstaff were superb. Didn't stop running for 90minutes and really dominated their opponents. The two wide players did well. Up to support Boyd but helping their fullbacks as well. Boyd put in a great shift. Often against three CBs he did the running we don't associate with his game and good hold up and link play. I felt McCulloch got things spot on. Only criticism was maybe he could have put Tyson or Umerah on for Boyd who was done in after about 75mins.

  12. The team are playing pretty well at the moment, Lee McCulloch seems to be saying and doing all the right things, stay away protests do not seem to be getting the desired results, it is perhaps time for fans to come back to RP and give MJ dogs abuse in front of TV and Radio audiences, I honestly think we are more likely to get positive response from media people, at the moment the radio and tv seem to use the protests, or lack of as a way of ridiculing our support. If the fans are back in numbers, supporting the team whilst giving MJ the bird I honestly see it being more effective. MJ cannot tell potential sponsors and "mates" that it is a noisy minority if 4500 fans are in ground giving him it tight.

  14. What investment does QTS have in the club that they could lose? Are they more than the shirt sponsor? The other two knew what they were getting into when they jumped into bed with MJ ... same as Moran and Smith.. so it's their own fault if they lose their cash. If they don't come out against MJ then they are as much part of the problem as him.

  16. Agree with those saying next week become vital, lets us open up a gap and even if we don't make top 6, we should still be safe by the split. Always a bit worried about playing a team that's just been humped, even last season Gary Locke's killie responded after being humped, but would be extremely satisfying to be the team that costs McGee his job.

  17. I wonder if the Killie fans in the 50s didn't like Willie Waddell because he played for Rangers?

  18. You are wrong. He did try to link it to the SNP. He released the draft of his speech on twitter before he addressed the conference but quickly changed it at the conference after being lamblasted all morning. He was joining in the SNP bash fest at a Labour Party Conference in Perth. Do you really think he wasn't including Scottish Nationalists.

  19. This may be the kiss of death but I think he'll do well for us. Didn't like him as a player at Rangers but he's not going to be playing for us is he?

  23. From a mate that did it at tynecastle against Romanov a couple of seasons ago, it cost about a grand for the plane and about 300 hundred for the flag, so yip, costs a few quid

  25. Is it expensive to hire a plane to tow a banner around above RP? Doing that during our next live tv match would embarrass the clown in front of a stadium and tv audience.

  26. This. So MJ clearly doesn't like being made to feel uncomfortable. This should be happening at every game regardless if he's there or not as Bowie and Kiltie have done nothing to the feelings of the fanbase or even outline their stance on the past, present or future, and they should be subjected to the same treatment until explanations are given. Time for those in the east to be over in main stand every game, and we should also be generating radical ideas, however small, to get the message across.

  28. Those players you mention formed the basis of the 1st Killie side I watched as a young boy, great servants & names I remember vividly tho I don't recall a great deal about them due to my age at the time. Yours was a good post & you should continue to post & not just read,it's always good to see different names in threads.

  30. Funnily enough, Tommy Burns lob came to mind as the ball was in the air yesterday. I was thinking "please go in this time". I still can't believe that Tommy's lob didn't go in. I was right in line with flight of the ball.

  31. As usual someone takes a thread off topic. This wasn't about killie legends, we have lots of them. This was about yesterdays goal and how many years ago TB tried the same thing. If we hadn't scored with a lob I probably wouldn't have posted about TB. But yesterday must have brought back poignant memories for em and others who were there that night. If you feel so strongly about legends then start a post!

  32. "The chanting and the abuse because he can't show off in front of his pals " This - the more vocal and visible the abuse is, the more people will step back and question their association with him.

  33. Maybe I didn't miss them. Maybe I just wanted to make a point in a direct reference to the comment made about keeping the legend of Tommy alive (as there is very little chance of that not being the case in my opinion). Not sure why you have to come across as the Miss Jean Brodie of the site, at times, but thanks for pointing out all of the things I can do in a magnificently condescending way.

  34. He speaks very well. I think it's too early to just hand him the job but he's going the right way about making it his. When Locke was caretaker I felt he got lucky with a couple of results and landed the job without the team delivering any top performances. McCulloch has had two good performances. A poor result last week and a great one yesterday. He's popular just now but that will change if we don't make the most of our next batch of games against teams around us in the league

  35. This thread reminds me of a 'joke' I once heard... Turns out Dele Alli and West Brom's Salomon Rondon are good good good friends and often throw parties together. Apparently the last one was a Rondon Dele Do! Geddit?

  39. The one thing you can never criticise him for is lack of effort. Last time he did extra training sessions at Fitness First and his fitness improved significantly. I've no doubt he's working hard again this time as he looks very fit and ran all day long. Great to see him score. Hopefully the first of many.

  40. You'd be better off throwing your weight behind the more left wing broad church of the YES movement, then reclaiming your Labour party after independence. Scottish Labours biggest problem is that they never existed - they were always a branch office of the London party. All right before devolution - utterly disastrous afterward.
