Not really equatable. I can see this thread getting deleted, but... Hun I would deem to be said to offend but not taken as seriously enough to cause trouble. Hun/Tim is more a better comparison. Neither I really think are acceptable on a forum tbh, particularly one that is Killie-based and we have nothing to do with the OF rivalry. It just makes us look as bad as them. A lot of blame getting heaped on McCoist for stuff that weren't his decision to make or for not wanting to keep playing for as long as someone was willing to pay. I remember the buzz around the place when we signed him and Durrant, and I can't think of another time Killie were getting semi-regular namechecks on primetime TV. On the pitch, he scored a few, missed a few. Shrug. I mind when I first started going, we had big George McCluskey up top, and Ally played a similar role (though in my mind, GM was a class apart) - the old head up top, legs gone but brain still ticking over. Ally didn't do enough to earn legend status, unlike the real Super Ally, but it's sad to seem he's getting pariah status thrust upon him from some. For missing a penalty? Signing a contract offered to him, presumably, under the free will of the board? For being a, quote-unquote, hun? There's not enough time for me to spend it hating on ex-Killie players. I might not be a big fan of a few but they all, more or less, served the stripes as best they could while they were here.

Although the national team has a plethora of left full backs, there does not seem to be a long list of right back contenders. As difficult it is to get a killie player chosen to play for Scotland, with his current level of consistency and playing for a progressive top half team, is he worth a shout? He has been arguably our most consistent performer since sc took over.

I thought he looked better after mulumbu went of. He seemed to have a bit more room to move about with more forward passes. Will need to keep working on his concentration though

Exactly. I heard a lot of impatient shouts from fans today when the playetrs were doing the sensible thing and keeping the ball. 3 or 4 sideways passes and retaining ball is better than a forward one to nobody which just loses possession.

Professional performance from Killie today. We stuttered a bit at the start but it never looked in any doubt. When we found our tempo we caused them all sorts of problems. Four very well worked goals. Brophy's and O'Donnell's crackers in particular. Goalkeeper didn’t get tested and I’d be surprised if we saw him again this season. Tshibola strolled it. Didn’t look like he got out of first gear. Dicker was dominant all afternoon. Good to see Kiltie get almost 80minutes. He was a threat going forward and didn’t back down from anything all afternoon. We are a different team with Brophy. He could easily have had a hat trick after coming on. Scored a cracking goal. His movement is a constant threat to the opposition. After his early appearance I don’t think many saw him being at the level he’s at now. Ive never seen a keeper take conceding as badly as the Brora keeper today. He had a decent game overall with a couple of very good saves. Nothing he could do about the goals but he wasn’t taking it well at all. Overall we did what we had to do. Into the next round and we can continue to dream of Boydie walking up the steps at Hampden.

I met the Ayrshire entrepreneur, Billy Bowie, this week. He is the principal reason behind Kilmarnock’s recent resurgence under manager Steve Clarke, having ploughed money into Rugby Park and helped lure the impressive Clarke back north of the border. You won’t see much about Bowie in the sports pages. He lives quietly in Ayrshire, playing down his status, and remains totally likeable and unaffected by his waste-disposal company turning over £20 million a year. Back in 1991 it was just Bowie, his one decidedly second-hand truck, and a drain that needed cleaned. Today he presides over a minor empire of lorries and employees. In life, there is a lot to be said for humble determination. (Graham Spiers) He doesn’t want any public profile. He is publicity shy. He lives locally and quietly in Ayrshire, up at 6am every day, diligently going about his work. He is a popular figure around Stewarton, his home town, with no airs or graces. But, most of all, Kilmarnock FC are happy to say: thank heavens for Billy Bowie. The 52-year-old local entrepreneur is the discreet power behind the Rugby Park club’s recent elevation, most notably in the appointment of Steve Clarke as manager. When you meet Bowie you can see why he is better known in the queue of his local Sainsbury’s than in the pages of newspapers. “Times like this, when I’m being interviewed or having my picture taken, I think to myself, ‘What’s going on here, Billy?’” he says. “I don’t need any profile. I don’t want to be bigged up.” But it’s a bit late for that. Bowie has been quietly putting money into Kilmarnock for 20 years – the club used to put his name above every fire exit in the stadium – before he upped his commitment in 2014. This waste-disposal tycoon has ploughed roughly £3 million into Kilmarnock and now owns nearly 40% of the club. Bowie’s money was a part of a debt-restructuring which relieved Kilmarnock of onerous bank debt, while also seeing the departure of the previous chairman, Michael Johnston. “Part of that £3 million I’ve put in is a [soft] loan of about £800,000 which I’m not too fussed about, to be honest,” Bowie says airily. “Part of the reason I got involved was, I kept hearing about Kilmarnock, about the debt and the problems they had. It was all you heard in the local media. I just thought, ‘I want to see if I can make a difference here.’ So I had a conversation with the club and we took it from there.” Bowie’s is a classic self-made man story. His company, Billy Bowie Projects, is visible all over Ayrshire, having grown from him driving his own truck in 1991 to now owning over 130 trucks and turning over £20 million a year. It’s not fragrant work by any means – sewage, septic tanks, industrial waste, drains – but his appetite for the fray and an eye for an opportunity have served Bowie very well. As well as in Ayrshire, he also now has three other depots in England. “I started off on my own back in 1991, driving my first truck. I was 24 at the time and had worked with a previous company, doing the same line of work. “In my old job I seemed to spend a lot of time on the phone saying sorry to customers for our trucks being unable to get out to do their work. So I saw the opportunity. The company I was with wasn’t willing to invest in new equipment to cover the extra work, so I went out on my own. “I bought an old tanker, fixed it up, and started working away myself. That tanker cost me about £2000 to buy at auction but it cost another £3000 to actually get it up and running and looking the part. “I was cleaning out drains and septic tanks. Tankers is a tough industry to get into but I always had the knowledge, I knew where the treatment plants were and where to do the disposing. Plus, back then, you were allowed to tip liquids into landfill sites, though now everything is about recycling. I know all about waste-disposal.” The success of Bowie’s business life is now making a tangible difference to Kilmarnock FC. He was instrumental in bringing Steve Clarke to Rugby Park in October, with all the extraordinary knock-on effects it has had. Killie have soared under Clarke and Bowie oozes with a quiet ambition for his club. “This season I’m sure we will end up in the top-six,” he says. “I also think we’ll do well in the [Scottish] Cup and be in the final. And next season I think we will be aiming for the top-four. “We are setting our sights high. Yes, there are bigger clubs, but if we get out there and give them a bit of competition, like we’ve done recently, then the points will stack up. The top-four is our ambition.” But for how long will Bowie and Kilmarnock be able to hold on to Clarke? At this rate of knots the coach’s credentials are going to be on fire. Both Scotland and Rangers should be sorely tempted. “We’ve had no contact with anyone from the SFA wanting to have talks with Steve,” he insists. “And we’ll be doing our damnedest to keep hold of him. “He’s happy here and he has signed up for two and half years. Stevie keeps saying he’s happy. There is a lot of speculation but we are going to give it our best shot to hold on to him.” Even Bowie himself has been taken aback by how well his new coach has been performing. It turns out that, for over four years now, Clarke and Killie had been having intermittent conversations about him coming to the club. “When Lee [McCulloch] left we started putting out feelers for a replacement. I got various text messages from people saying, ‘get in touch with Stevie Clarke.’ So that is what we did. “We sat down with him and had a good interview. We felt quite privileged chatting with Steve about the possibility. We were honest about things, and about where Kilmarnock was as a club, about our finances and our budget. “We knew from our discussions with him that he was the man. He has the respect of everyone at the club, especially the players. Long may it continue.” Bowie says he is “a hands-on guy” who is never happier than when out in his yard manually fixing something. You get the impression he’d still just like to be driving his truck about the place. In Ayrshire they are saying, long may he steer Kilmarnock FC.

I wouldn’t give him the “pleasure” of playing out his final days in a Killie kit, if we maintain this sorry status of being a doormat for supposed “Legends”, especially ones who left us ten minutes before the window closure, then Billy Bowie’s hard work will be in vain. We owe Naisy nothing, he has made his bed!

The Sutherland Clearance . There is a strong sense of apprehension amongst the Brora support this week, and it has nothing to do with the recent results at Rugby Park, or PSG’s failed effort to nab Youssouf Mulumbu. Some things are just far more important. To be fair it is a concern firmly founded in our recent history. Those who travelled to Palmerston for our 4th Round Scottish Cup tie against Queen of the South suffered. The trip to Links Park in Montrose for the second leg of the first ever Pyramid Playoff was absolutely agonising. And yet the famous travelling Red Army had to go through the same agony at Bayview again this season. For it to happen at Kilmarnock, of all places, is a pain few could live with. Again, to be fair, it is a problem purely of the supporters own making. Tokes can do all the homework he wants, he can inspire the players in any way he pleases, he can mastermind a game plan which narrows the gap between Premiership and Highland League all he likes. But it won’t alleviate the current anxiety that is gripping the Brora fans over the past few days. Pies As we say, it’s a problem of the travelling support’s own making. They just turn up in unexpected numbers, overwhelming numbers. The trip to Dumfries in 2014 started the niggling doubt, Queens own match report confirms the attendance as 1434. The Doonhamers also confirmed we took a bigger away gate to that game than everyone in the Championship at that time apart from Rangers and Hibs. It took the town by surprise (a pleasant surprise, we are a very friendly bunch) but of greater importance, it took those in charge of ordering the pies by surprise. When we travelled to Links Park for the 2nd leg of our Pyramid Playoff, the Angus club could be forgiven for not seeing the food issue as the most important concern on the day … but given that they actively campaigned for visitors to turn up, it was a near disaster for the Cattachs when they were offered sausage rolls at half time due to the dearth of pies. Having accounted for almost a quarter of the 440 attendees at Stair Park, a mere 300 miles from home, that the short hop to Fife would attract more travellers shouldn’t have really come as a surprise to any of us. However, we didn’t account for Cup fever gripping the village and beyond, resulting in 250 red and white revellers descending on Methil, devouring all the pies, and watching the serving hatch close before appetites were fully satisfied. It’s hungry work watching your team carry off Cup shocks. Mock outrage aside, it would appear that Kilmarnock can expect a horde of Highlanders to land on their doorstep this weekend. Our Brora Rangers Supporters Club ran one bus to Methil for the 4th Round tie and that resulted in well over 200 fans paying in through the ‘Away’ turnstile. This weekend we hear there are 5 buses of varying capacity making the trip down the A9 and M77. It appears to be a modern day Sutherland Clearance, albeit with less coercion than that of the mid 1800s. Much as a Cup run such as we are currently enjoying can make a very important difference to our balance sheet, and so obviously, our ambitions, there is something about the Scottish Cup that belongs more to the fans than anything else in our domestic football scene. No doubt we will have a post weekend feature on the travelling Reds next week, but today we’d like to turn our attention to those who don’t regularly follow our Club. It is difficult to know how much anonymity to afford posters on Social Media these days, but we are going to single out Iain Sherry for his contribution to the Brora Rangers Supporters Facebook Page. His first post on the page … “Hi folks, Killie fans looking forward to welcoming you to the theatre of pies next Saturday. Any questions re game please fire away” And fire away the Brora fans did, some even asked sensible questions, to which Iain found the answers. Top job, Iain. The bastion of Scottish football south of the Highland Football League, Pie & Bovril always has a lively forum … and the Killie v Brora Rangers had a fantastic opening post: “For the first time since 1985 we’ve drawn non-league opposition in the Scottish Cup. For those of you wondering what happened that day, Inverness Thistle beat Killie 3-0 in a game that Killie fans of a certain vintage refer to as the Highland massacre. Anyway, Brora are coming to RP for the first time ever and I think it’ll be a memorable day for both clubs. On paper we’re massive favourites and in years gone by I’d have said that it’s a potential banana skin but with our form right now I’m pretty confident that we’ll get the job done. I think we need to make the effort to make the Brora fans feel very welcome indeed given that it’s a 500 mile round trip when they’ve already had to travel something in the region of 1400 miles already in the cup.” It is the spirit in which we like to travel, it seems likely it is very much the spirit in which we are going to be met. It really is The Beautiful Game. Back in the North’s premier footy forum, Fitba North, where rivalries are a bit more apparent, the level of support for our first foray into the 5th Round and Premiership opposition is also obvious. Our Twitter account is busier than ever with the ego boosting Likes and Retweets … but this is one definitely worth a share. There is a feelgood factor around this weekend that money can’t buy. There will be original moments a plenty, and unforgettable memories to pass on to the future generations of Brora Rangers fans. It is a trip to savour. But if you don’t want to go down in Dudgeon Park history as the bad guys, Iain and ‘Andy_K_97’, don’t let your club run out of pies.

Professional is exactly the word I would use to describe it as well. Not surprisingly we kept the ball well all game. We were lacking a bit of tempo in the first half but I think there was always the feeling that if we kept working them without the ball they would tire and more chances would come our way. Was good to see Kiltie back and be reminded what a clever player he is with good technique to match. Good at finding space and has an eye for a pass. Could play an important role for us in the rest of the season. Scott Boyd had a dodgy first half but the rest of them pretty much strolled through the game. Brophy added a good bit of movement up front when he came on. Good warm up for Tuesday night.
