  4. Why would you loan a player and then put him out on loan?

  5. Maybe I worded it harshly. He needs a serious boot up the arse. He has done next to nothing for us since he joined in the summer. Can’t keep using the fact Liverpool rate him highly as an excuse imo. He needs to start performing or else Liverpool might start to think twice about him.

  7. Was quite a feeling going up there in December top of the league. Bubble got burst pretty quickly but no question we had them rattled, for a wee while at least. I'll never shake off the feeling that if Stewart hadn't left us we'd have challenged a bit longer. January/February turned into a slog although we recovered brilliantly by the end.

  8. I doubt he'll ever play for Liverpool

  9. It's not a parallel to other industries. You keep repeatedly saying buy/sell/reinvest/sell without taking into account contracts or players intentions. A company can buy a smaller business, build the business, sell the business, buy a smaller business, repeat. The reality in dealing with footballers is you're not going to get them on any more than a 3 year contract, more often than not 2. After their first season/season and a half you either need to attract bids or get them to sign a new deal. Players have agents in their ear telling them their best financial options and, as you said yourself, it's often more financially beneficial for the player to see out their deal and take a higher bonus/higher wage when unattached. There are situations like Greg Taylor where you have a fantastic talent on your hands and everything falls into place where a rich club who badly need someone in that position is willing to put up the good transfer fee but more often than not big investments aren't going to pay off for us. That's why we shop in the free transfer/loan/minor fee market like everyone else outside the old firm, the buy/sell/reinvest/sell model is very risky when you're not guaranteeing quality. It's really nowhere near as simple as you like to make out.

  10. If that’s the case then it was a very good £25k they spent on him. He’s scored more goals than Brophy, Sow and Jackson will manage between them all season. I'm all for living within your means but sometimes you need to speculate to accumulate and after finishing 3rd, getting compensation for Clarke, a big fee for Taylor and now a development fee for Smith if we can’t free up some funds to strengthen the squad then there is something wrong.

  15. I’d agree with this, but I pretty much blame the media and the state of modern political debate for everything though. For the purposes of shameless point-scoring, every party is attracted to quantative solutions over qualitative ones because they have to appease the media with figures to demonstrate absolutely every claim, or its “fake news” Quantative solutions are inevitably the “trendy” ones as it allows much more public discussion and bragging by those who clearly don’t understand the real issues. All the sh!te about x numbers of teachers and nurses etc is 100% meaningless. As an example, teachers in England and Wales have considerably less learning and no experience before they can call themselves ‘teachers’ than their Scottish counterparts - so in theory, every modern Scottish teacher starts off in a much better place. Does it make Scottish teachers ‘better’ than RoUK ones? clearly not, it’s never as easy as that. The other thing though is money Teachers, like NHS staff, emergency services and the military are in that ‘special’ category of jobs where no-one, least of all politicians, are allowed to suggest that they are anything but absolute heroes and angels. In all of those professions, like any - there plenty of absolute sh!tehawks though. The reality we are in now though is that because of the entitlement and lack of discipline across most schools, teaching is an absolutely horrific occupation. In order to make it more attractive to people, the major mistake that has been made recently is simply offer a higher salary for the role, in exchange for cuts elsewhere. Now what we have are loads of people training to become teachers that aren’t really fussed about the job - they are in it for the money. When it’s too much for them they bail and go on long-term sick, costing the taxpayer millions cumulatively while they look for a cushty office role using their ‘experience’ In short, what people in these roles need is not more money, but more support. Classroom support staff, a return to separate classes to help kids with specific needs, the introduction of some sort of nationwide policy for policing and clamping down on the shocking behaviour that teachers are powerless to deal with currently.

  16. I work with one of his mates so unless he's lying to his mates and that's what I was told. That might be with appearance fee but we haven't paid anyone 3k a week in a long, long time and pre dates back to when JJ was here. He turned down Sunderland, do you think he was offered less than £5k by them?

  21. I wouldn't blame him if he packed it in. He should be supported by his fellow players, at least, not abused by them. Does the PFA Scotland not have a role to play here? Kick-off in the FA Cup third round ties is being delayed by a minute to reflect on the issue of mental health. If it were to happen in Scotland, the same players and fans who taunt Cox would be hypocritically observing it, no doubt.

  22. Your mindset seems both ‘strong and stable’. I’ll join you in said ditch. As a ‘coalition of chaos’ we can ‘get Brexit done’ from the gutter. Bring beers, i’ve got a couple of sleeping bags and an Aldi carrier bag for shelter ‘oven ready’.

  23. We must have different definitions of better for it. The political knowledge demonstrated by the unionist incomers is akin to that of an average twelve year old. They routinely blame the snp for matters which are reserved and appear to have little understanding of the devolution settlement. Most of their contributions amount to no more than “I agree 100%” and green dotting each other. And anyone who thinks mclean offers more than beaker or that he uses facts, is suffering from a major case of conformation bias. Mcleans ramblings are routinely shredded by the more astute independence supporters like Rag or Scooter. They’re copied verbatim from Labour “Hame” (how parochial btw) and that’s why he can never provide links to his evidence. He has no interest in debate or discussion, and his post reveal the common trait of bitterness contained in most Scottish Labour supporters posts. They’ve never really got over going from top dog in Scotland to third or fourth at best. Is it trolling? Yes.

  24. MacLean seems to get just as irrationally irate that anybody could actually like the SNP as Beaker does with anybody who does not support independence. And as I do if I am being honest with the idea that anybody could vote Tory.

  25. Plenty of English youth system players have came up here and are just not up to it .No better than than what we already have and I still don't know what his position is.Also why he is on the bench when the manager has no intention of playing him ,I am sure one of our own youth players can sit on the bench and watch the game

  28. Chick Young was at RP during a Sportsound transfer deadline day broadcast in January 2008 and interviewed Billy Brown who confirmed that Russell had signed just before midnight. It was only the following day that it was revealed that the deal had fallen through. JJ and BB were fuming as they had sold Nish the same day to Hibs for £100k and were left with no striker. Iirc it was said that MJ had refused to pay some last-minute extra financial demand from Airdrie. Russell did eventually sign - presumably a PCA - but not until 21 May.

  29. only 8 points ( I think) behind last yea and personally I think if we get a good striker in the transfer window we could actually achieve the same as I feel that's the only thing missing

  30. I don't think it's his ability. I think it is more his size compared to the rest of the league. Think its the physical aspect he struggles with

  31. Agreed he seems to be well short of our level, which is strange as Chelsea wanted to keep him. AA had obviously seen a lot of him too. Altogether disappointing.

  35. From footballgroundguide.com (nb not always 100% up to date) At the ground itself located behind the South Stand is the Almondvale Suite, which normally admits visiting supporters. George Hobbs informs me, 'The Lime Kiln pub located near to the stadium on Almondvale Boulevard, was quite popular on my last visit'. This pub which is part of the 'Hungry Horse' chain also derives meals. Whilst up at the nearby Livingston Designer Outler retail park, there is a Wetherspoons pub, called the Newyearfield. However no football colours are allowed to be displayed inside the pub. Further on inside the Almondvale Shopping Centre is a pub called the Paraffin Lamp.

  36. Agree we are not best in with attackers so we need someone decent up front , I like the wolf but not enough goals , though up front himself doesn’t help

  37. I see no reason we shouldn’t have cash for a couple of decent players inJanuary. Increased prize money, players released, Taylor money, higher average attendances. Can’t all have been swallowed up in wage rises.

  40. What part of we don't have that kind of money to throw about is hard to understand? We need more up front, agreed. We desperately don't want to pay silly money in wages for a player who has NEVER done anything outwith the lower leagues in Scotland.

  41. This thread is a reflection of wider social media. People thinking it's ok to be right nasty and horrible about a person, who if stories are to be believed was just out her depth in a job, not exactly crime of the century. Folk need to calm down a little. Is she not a big Killie fan? If so, what a lovely way to speak about one of our own.

  42. I don’t think we can have any complaints about where we are. Lucky to take points sure but teams have had their luck against us. We know we are lacking in key attacking areas but that has never been denied by anyone. Stuttering against teams like Livi, St Mirren and Hamilton is nothing new. These aren’t games where we regularly go and put a few goals by them. On the odd occasion yes we find form but on the most part they are tight matches. I wasn’t that impressed by Motherwell when we played them and I’m confident we’d have come away with a positive result with 11men on the park. They are doing at the moment what we did at the start of last season punishing teams. When they’ve come up against Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and ourselves they haven’t looked anywhere near as clever. With head to heads a plenty both these teams are still catchable. Just results like last night make it harder.

  43. I think it's great. I've had no issues. The only frustration I have is that it gives away the result on the home screen so it's difficult to watch matches a few hours later. I emailed about this issue earlier this year and was told that they were in the process of fixing it. Reds TV has an option that you can choose not to have spoilers when you log in and it's on the same platform as Killie TV.

  44. I've been signed up for about 10 games now. In that time I've had problems once when the stream was having problems for maybe 30 minutes. So my experience overall has been decent and I don't regret signing up.
