  3. If they really want league reconstruction let the league go as is for next season and start a balanced working group to think about reconstruction. Hearts and others had absolutely no interest in changing the setup until decisions put their status at risk. If we are going to change the entire structure of the game a half arsed effort worked out in no more than a week by teams only really interested in self preservation is not the answer.

  8. So we'll be able to sit in a plane next to a complete stranger for 3-5 hours, but won't be able to sit out in the open at a football match for a maximum of two hours in the company of friends and family. I can understand that the government don't want mass gatherings of people, but I fail to see why an attendance of a quarter capacity at Rugby Park would present a major problem.

  10. Inverness went down that route of real lower league gems and it worked it for them just fine. They were masters at it. Or indeed Kilmarnock fans about Tom Brown

  11. Aye, I realise that. It doesn't mean there aren't players who are able to make the step up, there are various examples throughout our league of good players who have come from similar levels. People were touting Mikel Miller, Accies signed him from the eighth tier of English football. There are a lot of guys playing at that level who have been lost in the mix in the pros at that level too.

  12. Bachmann with Rogers as backup would be pretty much ideal going into the new season. Anotber Central midfielder doesn't seem a priority, but if he has something and fits the wage bill then fair enough.

  15. From Record.... Kilmarnock are in talks with Watford to re-sign Daniel Bachmann on loan, writes Scott Burns. The Austrian keeper spent the 2018-19 season at Rugby Park, racking up 28 appearances under then boss Steve Clarke. And his successor Alex Dyer, who was assistant manager at the time, is keen to make him Killie’s No.1 again this season. But he’ll need to play the waiting game as Watford are unlikely to sanction a move until the league is finished, with Bachmann back-up to Ben Foster and Heurelho Gomes. Dyer could yet face competition from the English Championship to land the 25-year-old. In his absence, 20-year-old Curtis Lyle is the most experienced between the sticks at Rugby Park after loanee Laurentiu Branescu returned to Juventus, Jamie MacDonald knocked back a new deal and Jan Koprivec was released. Dyer has also brought in ex-Aberdeen keeper Danny Rogers, who spent last term on loan at Morton, for training to assess him. The Killie boss is looking at Portuguese midfielder Diogo Barbosa, most recently at National League South side Dulwich Hamlet.

  20. part of the problem is not so much being in the ground, but getting to it. The authorities don't want thousands of people crowding around outside grounds/public transport/walking to grounds. Inside it is easy to social distancing, it is outside that it's the problem

  25. Found this video for the guy mentioned at the bottom of that article, granted it’s hard to judge the level he was playing at here in comparison to ours but that seemed impressive. Looks very powerful and athletic, enjoys a tackle and was picking out passes equally comfortable with both feet. Good age as well when compared to Power and Dicker, signings like this could be the way forward.

  27. Yep. And I'm not having the "our business will be done behind closed doors" or "we're just not letting papers hear about our deals". We heard that the previous 2 windows and got landed with deadline day Osman Sow and Kirk Broadfoot, when we were absolutely crying out for decent attacking options.

  28. Yes, he had a great start but the season is 40+ games and he was rotten in the last few months and would have been dropped if there had been anyone to replace him. I think it is unlikely that we will get Bachmann back but if we do it could make an enormous difference to our season. Players like Scott Fraser would improve the squad but if we are looking below National Conference in England then we must be really struggling financially. I'm disappointed that we don't often look at our lower leagues. We have missed out on Shankland, Dykes, Nisbet and others in the last couple of years alone. It does make you wonder what our scouting set up is. Livingston, as an example, have been much better than us at finding players at that level. Its been a long time since we uncovered a Craig Bryson or a Frazer Wright who made a step up and become a first team regular.

  29. Was thinking at a guess you would half the capacity so that you didn’t have people sitting directly behind each other. From there knock two thirds off that to allow room between people. Then stagger the seats in use so you have your gap all round you. If it goes down to 1m social distance that’s maybe just over 2seats gap. So that would have us down at 3000 capacity in the stadium before you take into account any other precautions required.

  30. Ainsworth was playing when I saw Dulwich. He was by far the outstanding player on the pitch and was playing at half-cock. He could play at a higher level and I don't know why he's down there.

  33. Only way Labour will make inroads into the seats they lost in England and Wales is to move to the right as did Tony Blair. For some reason Keir Starmer reminds me of Tony Blair. Boris is a total numpty but folk south of the border seem to have taken a liking to him especially in areas you would never expect a Tory to win. The hierarchy in the Tory party will be keeping an eye on Boris Johnson's ratings and performances and if they feel he is going to be a liability he will go.

  41. I don't think so. According to the Record, "As part of South Korea’s long-term bid to host the 2002 World Cup, they wanted to show FIFA they could put on a show. So the Korea Cup was born. It would involve a mix of club sides and international teams and the organisers wanted a Scottish representative. Naturally, Rangers and Celtic were their prime targets but with the Old Firm already booked for pre-season trips, the invitation found its way to Ayrshire." How an invitation came to the SFA and how Killie were nominated and accepted isn't clear. The club just announced it as having received an invitation to participate. According to Mark Roberts, the players were the epitome of professionalism! “Alex Totten was boss at the time and despite the prospect of a glamorous jaunt to Asia, it didn’t go down that well in the Killie dressing-room. Roberts, a teenage striker at the time, recalled: ‘We said: ‘OK, where is it?’ When they told us South Korea, we just p****d ourselves laughing. ‘So while every other player in Scotland was f***ing off on a plane to Magaluf we were on our way to South Korea. It was bonkers. I was only 19 and it was the furthest away I’d ever been after Saltcoats.’ Killie were drawn in a group alongside the hosts, Costa Rica and a Rio XI from Brazil. In the other section were Ecuador, Zambia, Belgian outfit Mechelen and Trelleborgs from Sweden. The weather was a bit different to what Killie were used to, as was the cuisine. Roberts said: ‘We were trying to train in 40 degree heat and the food was horrific. ‘We felt the rice wasn’t fresh every day so what we did was get peas and hide them underneath the rice to see if they were giving us fresh stuff. ‘Sure enough, we’d lift it up the next day and the peas were still there! We thought: ‘You b******s!’ ‘We were in TGI Fridays every night for our dinner, honestly. About 30 of us would get taxis to TGIs in the middle of Seoul. We were just dafties from Scotland.’ Kilmarnock’s first game was against the Costa Rica national team at Seoul’s Olympic Stadium. To their credit, they picked up a 2-2 draw that should have set them up nicely for their next game against the Rio XI. But with Totten’s side desperate to get back on home soil, Roberts recalled their disgust when Robert Connor grabbed a goal against the Brazilians in a match they eventually lost 2-1. He said: ‘Before our first match, South Korea were playing the Rio XI. ‘We turned up while that game was on and the stadium was full – there were about 100,000 people in there. ‘They had those clapper things that you get at Leicester City now so there was some racket. It was awesome. ‘We thought we’d be playing in front of 100,000 so when the first game finished, we walked out the tunnel feeling like big international stars. ‘But we quickly realised there were only about 10,000 people left in the ground – it was like a ghost town! ‘We went into the second game against Rio XI not wanting to progress. We just didn’t want to be there. We wanted to be on our holidays. The second game was important in the section and we didn’t want to win it. I remember Robert scored a goal and the camera panned on to him. ‘It was on the big screen and you could see him saying to himself: ‘Oh f***!’ ‘As we ran back to the halfway line we were giving him dog’s abuse for the goal. We knew if we qualified we’d need to stay another week out there – which was the last thing we wanted.’ Totten’s boys were meant to be relaxing after a long season. Despite being 5000 miles away in an unfamiliar city, Roberts and Co weren’t keen on being cooped up in a hotel room or having ‘rest’ days after games. He said: “We were out every second night, we got blootered. ‘We were going into the centre of Seoul. To this day I’ve no idea how we managed it because the taxi drivers couldn’t speak English. ‘There were a lot of military police out there, it was just mental. ‘One night we were in a bar that was effectively a wooden hut and we were all crammed in. ‘All of the sudden the doors were bolted up and the shutters came down over the windows. ‘The police were telling us to lie down on the ground. We were on the floor in this shack while the police looked in. We thought: ‘What the f*** is going on here?’ ‘But then the doors opened, windows opened, music started blaring and we were all up dancing again. It was nuts. ‘At night, I was doing crazy stuff. I was building barricades outside the gaffer’s hotel room. ‘He’d wake up in the morning and couldn’t get out because he had beds and wardrobes outside the door. ‘We had a great group of boys, young ones like myself, David Bagan, Alex Burke and Alan Kerr. We had some carry on. We talk about it all the time now. It was a really funny trip and we’ll never forget it. ‘Big Derek Anderson was there and he was a character. ‘We went into town one night and were led through a gate into this building. We didn’t know what was in store for us. But all of a sudden, a big door opened up and it was a massive nightclub. It was brilliant, absolutely bouncing. ‘Big Del found an Inspector Clouseau-style coat and hat so he put it on and started bouncing about. Absolutely crazy.” Killie were hammered 5-1 by South Korea in their last game and finished bottom of the group with one point. Ecuador lifted the trophy with victory over Zambia in the final. It’s only now guys like Roberts and then skipper Ray Montgomerie can appreciate the experience. Roberts said: ‘The tournament was a big thing over there. There were TV crews everywhere with people wanting autographs. We didn’t appreciate how big it was. It’s only now you realise it was a great trip and opportunity for us. ‘But before the South Korea game, outside the dressing-room we noticed they had these big massive washing machines, like industrial ones. ‘Big Del found a huge box of soap powder and put it all into the machine, about 20 litres of it. ‘Before the game, when we came out of the dressing room there were bubbles everywhere, about a billion of them. It was like a West Ham game! ‘We were all p*****g ourselves laughing, while all the South Koreans were running about going nuts. ‘After it, we were just delighted to be out of it and going home. ‘I came back and had serious jetlag. After getting dry for a few days, I needed a holiday – I think I went to Magaluf with my mates.’” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/mark-roberts-recalls-insane-kilmarnock-22116629
