  1. Hi all. I’m not long home from Dingwall and have had quite a bit time to think of my response to this thread. First of all, I apologise if my commentary was below par last night. I actually said to Scott McClymont and Chris Kyle after the match that I wasn’t happy with my performance, so for that, I apologise. Some of the comments, in my opinion lack a bit of tact, something which disappoints me as we are a classy club with classy supporters, however, myself and the commentary team are no different to the players when it comes to criticism or praise. I take it all on the chin and welcome both, please continue to do that. I’m not going to lie, some of these comments did hurt a bit, I’m used to it though in my line of work but when people perhaps don’t understand the level of prep I put in to a match coupled with it coming from fellow fans, it’s slightly harder to take on the chin. I’d hope though that you’d tell me to my face, should you get the opportunity or if indeed we ever meet. I’m in an unbelievably privileged position to be able to go to matches and all I try to do is describe the action as best as I can. I have to talk more than most tele commentators as we are providing an audio / radio service as well as pictures, for that, I make no apologies as I want all our subscribers and fans to have the best possible experience so I have to aim it more at those not able to get the pictures. I think some of the comments about Alan are a bit too much but again, you pay your money and you are more than entitled to your opinion, again, we welcome this. Our new away match co-commentator, John Boyd, wasn’t with us last night as his wife is due their first child this Saturday so there was no way we were letting him travel nor did he want to. Family comes first. John should be back with us for Rangers away shortly. Alan is there for the older generation of fan as I think he connects more with them whereas John connects more with those who have a more technical mind towards the game. My vision for our commentary is that we be biased towards Killie at all times but we have to say things as we see it. If we are playing poorly it’s our job to tell you this, if the opposition is playing superbly, we have to tell you this etc etc but always keep a Killie bias however, too much Killie bias just sounds cringeworthy in my opinion. We are looking down the road of ex-players alongside John and I at away matches but it’s very much an availability thing. Once we have identified players then we can have discussions with them. Any issues you have with pictures at away grounds are outwith our control we we effectively just “piggy back” on that for our stream as does every away team. One thing I personally promise you is that, we try our best to give you the best experience as possible and when you’re not happy, we and more so myself, hurt and are disappointed in that. Those who are close to me will tell you that I am my worst critic and I am hard on myself as I simply strive to be better each week at my job. I’m never one to shy away from comments and criticism, hence why I’ve decided, with Scott McClymont’s backing, to reply to these messages. I’m sorry again to those who feel I was sub-standard last night. I’ll take all the comments onboard and try my best to make it more enjoyable going forward. KTID Gav

  2. To be honest, I think it shows a lack of class posting this when we know Gav reads the forums. You're entitled to your opinion on a service you're paying for, but would you say any of this to their faces? Obviously not. For what it's worth, I like Gav's enthusiasm and find it's perfectly in keeping with what I'd expect from club-run tv. I see why some struggle with Alan's commentary but tbh I don't really tune in to the games for whats being said - more to watch what's going on

  4. I remember there was quite a long thread last season on the respective merits of Burke and Jones. Since the start of 19/20, Burke has played 29 league games and scored 8 goals. He's had 4 assists in the league, and 6 in one game in the Scottish Cup. As well as everything else he brings to the game, he's been involved in 18 goals. Jones has played 7 games in the league. No goals and no assists. One pathetic sending off that injured only himself. Burke is nearly 37, Jones will soon be 26. I reckon Burkey's future looks brighter. There was no contest then, even more so now. Burke is one of the top five performers in all of Scottish football over the past two seasons, and definitely number 1 for 20/21. Open contract negotiations now, and get him on the coaching staff. He's the role model to beat all role models.

  5. Pish. Everyone on Kicback has Killie at heart or they wouldn't be on here. Yet we all get slated. Difference is this is free. If you pay for something like Killie TV you're entitled to have pop at it if you are not happy about something. They are no more immune from criticism than the Killie shop staff who regularly get panned on here.

  6. Chris Burke is 37 before the year is out, but the Kilmarnock winger is more effective than ever. He's scored in each of his side's opening three games of the Scottish Premiership season. He's played in all but three minutes of those matches. And his importance to the Rugby Park side is pronounced. Former Scotland team-mate James McFadden described him as "getting quicker with age" but how is a player who has now scored in each of his last 16 seasons as a professional doing it? How did he reach this stage? Since breaking through at Rangers as a rumpled teenager - and scoring on his debut against Kilmarnock in 2002 - Burke's career has ebbed and flowed. He departed Ibrox after just short of 100 games in seven years, going on to have two productive seasons at Cardiff City, a further four at Birmingham City, then a couple at Nottingham Forest. He returned to Scotland four years ago with Ross County, but a virus curtailed his involvement before he signed for Kilmarnock in summer 2017. A tally of 76 games and 14 goals have followed as the former Scotland international's influence has grown steadily. What does the data tell us? Burke had 67 touches (left) in the draw at Ross County and did most of his work on the right flank That Burke is working as hard as ever and is just as involved. Any thought that he might be eased back into a cameo role as age catches up with him has been banished, thanks to his ferocious grafting up and down Kilmarnock's right flank. Some managers might have been minded to move him into a more restrained central role, but Alex Dyer - and Steve Clarke before him - have seen the value of deploying Burke in an area where his delivery can cause chaos and where he can steal in at the back post to snatch the odd goal. What do they say? Former Scotland team-mate James McFadden on Sportscene We seem to be speaking about wee Burkey every week because he just seems to be getting better. He had no doubt in his mind for the goal - he raps it into the net - and he is such a massive influence on the Kilmarnock team and the training pitch as well, I imagine. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53758075

  7. yes a win would be lovely right now and yes saturday is an important game but if you actually look at things we have only been let down by small errors hibs - played well, goalkeeper errors let us down celtic - played great, goalkeeper error again ross county - played well enough, poor refereeing all is not doom and gloom

  8. Leave them alone. They are not employed by Sky and earning mega bucks. I enjoyed it. Some of the patter, mistakes etc is no different to what family or pals would say when sitting at the game. Felt genuine. Keep it up lads.

  9. Well good for you, unnecessary division for education through reason of religion shouldn't be tolerated in any way in today's society. Trying to explain to a 4 1/2 Yr old why he wasn't going to the same school as his two best friends from nursery was a ridiculous and horrible scenario. Sooner its gone the better and we may finally break the s**te we have to deal with that's hung on by far too many aresholes in this country. Nothing personal Garvis, it just does my f**king head in and I think we hide from solving this blight.

  12. Get what your saying but have you never criticised a player or manager on here? I don't like OTT partisan commentary on club TV. We slagged OF for it for years, that's why I just went with the County commentary last night as they were good at discussing both sides.

  13. Don’t mind Gav but Alan Cochrane is horrendous, said it all last season as well. Surely we can invite ex players on to do co commentary like a lot of other clubs do

  14. Sorry that's garbage my son goes to a catholic school my nephews went to a catholic school and we all cheer on the Killie, The bigotry is how you are raised by your parents absolutely nothing to do with what school you go to. In fact what you have posted could be seen as bigoted.

  15. To not only read some of the OTT comments but then engage with fans on here here and take the time to fully reply shows what a class guy, a professional and true killie supporter you are @Gavin Wallace Much respect and keep up the good work......though keep away from trying the dodgy Scouse accent again

  17. To be totally honest I think accepting and celebrating mediocrity because they're "one of us" is worse than been overly critical.

  18. I can’t recall any comments on the thread stating we should be beating so and so. I do believe though that we should approach these games that we are there to win, and anything less is disappointing when we don’t. I see the logic in matching Celtic & to a lesser extent the newco being a good result, but if we don’t take the mindset into every game that’s it’s there to be won, we do indeed have some far too easily satisfied fans. Long bus trip, 72 rather than 96 hours rest, they’ve won their first two. Excuses for mediocrity. We now have a squad that could’ve been freshened up if need be. AD didn’t see the need to even make more than 1 sub. We outran them and controlled a good chunk of the game. Ultimately a disappointing draw from a game we were in control of.

  19. Cheap popularist dig. I’m glad you are not picking the killie team if you really believe that. A Scotland international who was massive for 3 years (and bar one game at livi as I recall) was played every time when available by 4 different manager. Compared to a reserve who has pplayed 3 good games. Your credibility on all matters football has just taken a nose dive for me ( not that I expect you to be bothered). But the comment with resonate well with all those that think that you need a killie tattoo on your arse and Agree never to leave the club to be treated with respect.

  21. Jones won[t even have 10% of the career Burke has had. In fact, I'd say Jones has peaked and he'll be dosing about oame s**tehole boozer in Redcar dining off the fact he played for the Huns when he's 30 and playing for Gateshead.

  22. He has perennial hamstring problems. Final year of his deal and as per usual Killie will let an asset run it down and will leave without any compensation. Given his injury problems and the fact there is no sign of him either being offered of signing a new deal I'd be looking to offload and replace him this window.

  23. I have never agreed with the 'performances are good so thats ok' mentality. A win is a win no matter how well or badly the team played. I've seen comments saying playing like we will make the season acceptable as Killie won't be in relegation trouble. Going too state the obvious but a team doesn't avoid relegation because the performances were good.
    4 points
  24. I'd say that's different as we dont actually know of any players reading or posting on here. I would like to think I've only ever critiqued their performance, stuff I would say directly to them, and not been as insulting as some of the comments on this thread. I also think a footballer at the professional level can expect more criticism of their performance than a co-commentator of a club tv channel. I know if it was me, I'd be hurt coming on and seeing some of the comments.

  25. We were very pedestrian in the first half but that was an excellent second half performance that deserved the 3 points. Bad referring decisions cost us - looked like a foul on Burke and a clear handball as well. Not sure what happened with their penalty as Burke had both hands up but commentary said it was against Millen. Was worried going into the season with the two full backs but they have been excellent so far. Power had another great game and took his goal very well. Pinnock will need some time to get up to speed with the game up here. Keeper didn’t have much to do but he did it well Definitely warming to Dyer. Three good team selections and three good performances in a tricky start. 3 points at home on Saturday and things will be looking ok.

  26. I don’t mind Gav. He’s typical club TV biased and enthusiastic sometimes overly so. Cochrane is useless. To be employed by a club and not know players names is poor. His analysis is rotten. Get him hunted. Get someone like Mahood, Hay, Di Giacomo or someone from the ex players to do the co commentary.

  27. I enjoy Gav's commentary. I love listening to his biased commentary because he's generally saying exactly what I'm thinking, rather than sitting on the fence just for for the sake of it. He's killie daft and it shows. My personal favourite is this one. Tell me this doesn't put a big stupid grin on your face!

  28. I’m not celebrating mediocrity - I’m merely pointing out that there’s a way to criticise constructively without coming across as an obnoxious arse. If you wouldn’t go up to someone in the street and tell them their commentary was horrific or embarrassing then don’t do it on here. It’s like when Danny Rogers joined us the other week, we had Killie fans on Twitter going on about what a s***e goalie he is and tagging him in their tweets so that he would see their comments. No need for it.

  30. By self righteous people I assume you are referring to the paying customer critiquing the product they are receiving? I had a meal that wasn't to my liking in a restaurant last week. Should I not voice my criticism because I'm not a chef nor would I volunteer to be one? Instead, I should applaud the chef on the work he done on behalf of all the restaurant even though I thought it was garbage?

  31. Think it more highlights the stupidity of his decision to leave a stable club in the middle of a pandemic to find a bigger club, when the likes of Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts have established RB's. I have no doubt if we were still in the market for a RB he would be back with us. He should have just signed a one year extension and then tried to get his move once everything has calmed down.

  32. Pretty disappointing comments on here, I for one enjoyed the commentary. Its refreshing to hear about Kilmarnock and not some old firm slant that we always seem to get for our match commentaries!

  33. It should absolutely NOT be an individual's choice over whether to attend or not, regardless of the ridiculous hyperbole about there being several thousand people in Tesco - its been made abundantly clear that plenty of people can't be trusted to obey guidelines as it is. I take it you see nothing wrong with what the Aberdeen 8 or Bolingoli did? To your question about what will be different in 3 months time? Nothing if we keep behaving like idiots. But I guess the aim is to not have dozens of new cases every day.

  36. Slightly off the topic of season tickets sold but in relation to the size of our crowds in general, I found a copy whilst clearing out my mothers’ loft of the Kilmarnock Annual (no, I’d never heard of it either) that came out in early December 1965. Amongst many interesting articles about the town and Ayrshire in general, including one on Irvine Fishmonger Bert Benzie - the Referee with the sense of humour- was an excellent piece by Alistair Macmillan on Killie’s Year of Triumph. It contained the following, remember this was us on the back of a title win and having been runners up in 4 of the 5 previous seasons, regular League Cup and Scottish Cup semi and Final appearances and pushing Real Madrid close at Rugby Park..... ” Those Poor Gates - the team which strived so hard to bring honour to the town are faced week by week with the degrading experience of performing before a mere six or seven thousand spectators. Why is there such a lack of interest in football in a town the size of Kilmarnock? Why do people not turn out in force to support the team week by week? Why is it they turn up with their blue and white scarves only when Rangers, Celtic and teams like Real Madrid come to town? It’s all very well saying that there are too many alternatives to Saturday afternoon football nowadays. This is indeed so. Television, racing, an afternoon jaunt in the family car and many other attractions are open to the football fan nowadays, more than ever before. But the gnawing question is : why are the alternatives preferred? Can it be with the team itself? A lot of questions and each very difficult to answer. Teams like St Johnstone in Perth, Dundee and Dundee Utd, Aberdeen and Dunfermline command a better support each week than the Scottish League Champions. It may be feasible to say Kilmarnock have signed fewer football personalities in the past five or six years than any other club in Scotland. There is perhaps a lack of new faces . Maybe, although the team is doing well, the football they are serving up is not attractive enough for some people. Perhaps an Andy Kerr or a Bud Maxwell would solve the Kilmarnock problem” Different times, yes, but if we could only attract 6-7,000 home crowds, old firm apart, during the glory days, why should we realistically expect to get more than on average we do in times of higher unemployment, many more attractions than an afternoon jaunt in the family car and probably the cost to get in proportionately more than back in the 1960’s?

  38. I appreciate what your saying but for the club as a whole having people in positions because they have the club at heart is not always the right solution. Sometimes you need people capable of doing the job they are there to do. I said earlier I don’t have a problem with Gav. He’s typical club TV commentator. I think we can do so much better for a co commentator. A current player who is injured or suspended to give us the inside scoop. An ex player who can provide a footballers view to what’s going on.

  41. How the FK can you drop Tish. He has been right up there with Power so far and imo he had a better pass on him than the other 2 defensively minded midfielders, and a better shot. Drop the captain if you want. For me I'd revert to the formation used by SC. On paper a 4 4 2 but in reality its lopsided with Burke on the right and the middle three shuffling as needed, and we then have 2 up top.
    3 points
  42. Two out of Power, Dicker and Tish should suffice for this kind of game. Bring Brophy back in.
    3 points
  43. Having now watched Sportscene, the decisions were even worse than I realised. The Stewart handball is a clear handball, very hard to see how the ref has missed it. The linesman should have caught the Burke one. Embarrassing refereeing.

  44. That midfield would get completely over-run imo. Fair enough dropping one of Dicker or Tshibola but that line-up would be suicidal.

  47. Has no one else heard the comments from Boydie and Dyer in interviews. Comments like "needs to work hard to win his place back" . That was Boyd , I wonder if he has inside information. Dyer suggested Nickie has the position and up to Brophy to again work hard and fight for the spot. But last night not even on the bench. Last year of contract. Wonder if they are trying to sell him in this window.

  48. Stop looking at the "normal" maths in a situation that isn't normal. Dyers run into the abandonment had Celtic twice, Aberdeen 3 times, Rangers, Hibs. After Christmas, realistically when he properly started, he had a very tough run and the league was abadoned going into St Mirren, Motherwell and then probably the bottom 6 where his ratio would look completely different! After the restart, straight back into Hibs, Celtic and then now. Stop with the win ratio stuff. It's not a normal win ratio. At least until he's had a proper run against everyone with his team anyway.
