  1. What a sad story. Remember him being injured but no idea of the mental aspects. Interesting that Van Dijk apologised through another player... not enough class or bottle to do it personally?

  2. You know that, after Waddell left Killie in 1965, he joined the Scottish Daily Express as a writer until November 1969 when he left to manage Rangers? In 1969 I had a summer job working in the Express office as a Copy Boy, a gofer basically. I can’t believe I worked beside Waddell for a couple of months and never asked him to sign anything! Go Fame, for example, would have been published that year. He would, like the others on the floor, shout “Boy!” and ask me to get him a cup of tea and a bacon roll from the canteen or take his expenses claim to Accounts. Discussing football with him would have been fanciful! I went back the next year too. Footballers, OF usually, regularly came in and I got tickets for the Scotland - England match from Don Revie. He had a huge bundle in his pocket and, despite me being a poor lad, insisted on payment in full! Typical Revie - greed was his downfall. Another of the Copy Boys was Keith McCrae, Motherwell goalkeeper cum striker, who went on to play for Manchester City before moving to the US.

  6. Her attitude was I've married into a fortune so f**k you lot. Fairly typical Tory materiel. Her destruction of the unions turned the poor against each other as they scrambled for crumbs. The council house sale was a real low blow turning the working classes against each other. The Tories have been playing at divide and conquer for centuries. Right now it's working quite well for them in Scotland.

  7. I don’t get the the relevance of your upbringing and your ability to lead or be a parliamentary member of a mainstream political party ? Thatcher was arguably one of the most successful Tory party leaders yet she came from humbler beginning than most Troy leaders . No Eton or Oxbridge links there . Anthony Wedgwood Benn also bucked the trend , Blair came from a privileged background . I think the UK is diverse enough now not to need its political party MP’s/MSP’s to come from a particular pigeon hole , otherwise Sarwar wouldn’t have been elected to both parliaments for 10 years and from inner city Glasgow to boot . Also millionaire Blackwood doesn’t exactly fit the socialist principles that the SNP espouse . Your wealth class profession or otherwise shouldn’t preclude you from supporting joining or representing any political party IMO Also if property is a sign of wealth this snippet is interesting

  9. Bizarrely, Kenny Shiels and family were staying at the same hotel as us just after he left Killie. Had a few chats with him round the pool but tried to leave him be. He was still hurting. He never sat down and relaxed though. Had all the kids from the hotel training. Best laugh was going to the airport in the transfer bus and we stopped outside a hotel with a big Hearts flag hanging from a balcony and he says to me in a thick NI accent. “C’mon let’s go and wind them up”. We had beaten them all season home and away.

  11. Mixu Paatelainen...what a podcast signing! The Kilmarnock Football Club manager for 2010/11's total football style reflects - very fondly - on his time in Ayrshire and gives a lot of detail on his managerial approach that season. He talks about the transfers, the tactics...and the 'what ifs' of that wonderful time. Listen on the Killie Histories website HERE or you preferred podcast app, such as Apple or Spotify. And if you like the series, please do like, follow, share and tell people - word of mouth makes all the difference! The Killie Histories series is a not-for-profit project made for the Former Players' Association and the positive feedback and support received is gratefully appreciated. "WHO? Never heard of him...MUST BE SHI*E!" (You'll need to listen...)

  19. It would certainly appear so and demonising the EU plays into BoJo's narative of how well off the UK is to have left. It deflects criticism from what an utter f**k up he bas made of the withdrawal arrangements, the subsequent trade deal and his catastrophiic incompetence in handling the pandemic. Tossing money at the vaccine issue allows him to bask in the glow of the saviour until people realise that the vcaccine is only part of the solution and only really works when available globally.

  26. I think it's due a spruce up yes. We all get a feeling of belonging when looking at the badge obviously, but when trying to be objective it can be quite ropy looking. I seem to remember a poster on here doing a more polished version of the same badge, which I'd probably be keen to avoid. Like the idea of reverting to the simpler crest with the year either side. When you see the Killie Ltd range of merchandise, the reason it looks so good is that the badge is understated - something like that, on a bigger scale would be an improvement. Would also be entertaining to see some of the roasters on here spit the dummy and say they'll "no' be back" until the club reverts back to the Billy Berntsson era badge.

  27. Thanks, Dillinger. Mixu of course made the interview: a perfect blend of insight, enthusiasm, humour and an ASMR speaking voice. I actually spend a lot of the editing time making sure that my contribution is only there to actually help, rather than to distract. I am not a trained journalist, for good or for bad. But what I keep in mind is: will the listeners actually want to hear the answer and will the player enjoy giving the answer. Then I research the hell out of it!

  29. You seem to be rooted throughout the thread in proclaiming how badly affected the club is going to be financially and explaining why they shouldn’t in one breath, and then in the next admitting you will add to that problem by claiming what you term a “free ST” for next season. Can you not see the irony of the contrasting positions you are taking here? Why don’t you like most of the fans expressing an opinion, take the stance that if you can afford a ST for next season and in order to protect the playing budget and competitiveness of the squad of the club that are no doubt very important to you, be prepared to buy your season like every other year? If all fans who have the financial ability and will to take this approach do so, it leaves those in less fortunate circumstances over this very turbulent year to continue physically supporting the club at games who otherwise would be lost? Altruistic to a degree but in a very small way looking out for fellow fans less fortunate and your beloved club at the same time. And finally, are you the guy on holiday who goes round asking everyone at the pool how much they paid to make sure he hasn’t overpaid for his fortnight in the sun, instead of lying back with beer in hand congratulating himself for having the means to go in the first place?

  30. Thank you Dundonald - that means A LOT. I put a huge amount into each episode time-wise but it's worth it if the final cut is seen to do the players' stories justice. My approach is very much: as the Former Players' Association are backing this, the least I can do is make it the best I possibly can. The fact that the club media team supports it so well on social media and uses it on Killie TV is a real help and people sharing it and talking about it, I think, is what makes the listener numbers so good. Not guessing your exact age but, with no spoilers, you'll be interested to know that I had a very interesting chat with Ray Montgomerie yesterday and three former teammates will be doing something soon. And I am also working on a couple of other new features. I'm currently working on a plan to make the podcast a long-term, sustainable project but the next year as a minimum is sorted, all going well.

  35. The founder of a Scottish dog food business has told how Brexit forced him to move to France after his exports to the EU were halted because of the new trade barriers in place since 1 January. After 10 weeks of daily calls and emails to government representatives, who he said were “absolutely terrible”, Antoon Murphy said he was left with no other option than to relocate or face losing the business. “The trade deal they agreed at Christmas is very close to as good as no deal,” he said. He set up Antos dog chew company in Ayrshire in 2005 and has grown it into a business with 19 staff and a turnover of more than £8m. About 60% of his sales were dog chews made from deer antlers, a sustainable and safer alternative to the bones popular in the UK and across the EU. He told of being hit by a double Brexit whammy with new documentation needed to certify his products comply with EU food health and safety standards and a haulage industry that would not touch food exports from smaller businesses such as his. He hit the first wall in January when he discovered the chews and other treats were classed as animal feed and each dispatch needed a health certificate. Not only was it a £200 extra cost for each order, whether the consignment was worth £40,000 or £500, but the precise health certificate did not exist for antler chews and any other of his unusual products. “Our products are quite niche and there is no specific health certificate for them,” he said. “It took us about 10 weeks of daily calls and emails with the Animal Health Agency to finally get somewhere in obtaining export health certificates for our products. They were absolutely terrible.” After the breakthrough on health documents, his hopes were dashed again when he learned that no haulage firm would take pallets of his products because they deemed it “too risky”, with the threat of food being checked at the border in Calais delaying the entire truck. “We decided that enough was enough and have now set up a new company in France to service all of our export sales,” said Murphy. He and his wife moved to a small town east of Lyon and have set up a new business, Nova Dog Chews, to fulfil European orders. “We started shipping today,” Murphy said. “To be honest our customers are glad they don’t have to deal with the UK company and more dealing with customs declarations and agents.” While his company continues in Ayrshire to supply the UK market, the expansion in Europe will cost the UK. “This move will obviously mean a loss in tax revenue, jobs and investment in the UK economy,” he said. His experience echoes that of many small business exporting food, including the Cheshire Cheese Company which last week told of its despair with the government, which had advised it to seek business in the US and Canada to make up for the closure of its online retail business in the EU. Research from the shipping company Forward2me shows door-to-door transport times between the UK and the EU doubled in January. Goods took an average of eight days instead of four, with Greece taking 17 days, France 7.5 days and Germany 10 days. In February it took even longer in some cases, with goods taking 13 days to get to Germany. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said the government was “aware of the challenges faced by hauliers moving mixed loads of products of animal origin and other commodities to the EU” because of Brexit and was working on central health certification and other measures which would help exporters “more easily consolidate them at a single point of dispatch and group products” on to a smaller number of health certificates. “All exports of products of animal origin to the EU – including many pet foods – now require an export health certificate (EHC) signed by an official certifier. We’ve always been clear that there would be new processes for traders, and we continue to support them in their transition to these new arrangements,” a spokesman for Defra said. It added that had tripled the number of official vets qualified to sign off the EHCs and was continuing work with EU member states to improve border issues. https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/amp.theguardian.com/politics/2021/apr/01/brexit-scottish-dog-food-firm-relocates-to-france-due-to-export-red-tape?amp_js_v=a6&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQHKAFQArABIA%3D%3D#aoh=16173094902739&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From %1%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Fpolitics%2F2021%2Fapr%2F01%2Fbrexit-scottish-dog-food-firm-relocates-to-france-due-to-export-red-tape

  36. Another Firs Park tale. Must have been early seventies. I was working over on Arran at the time. The rest of the guys would pick me up at Ardrossan on the Saturday morning and set-off wherever. We were as a team pretty low at that time and even the away support was nothing to talk about. Anyway reached Falkirk. parked the car and headed to a hostelry close to the ground for some food and a few pints. Pub was verey quiet. Left said pub around 2:50 and made the short walk to the ground. We did wonder even given the low attendances why we did not see a single supporter. Yes when we arrived at the ground we discovered game had been postponed earlier. A wasted trip football wise but still a good "Day Away".

  37. Former Liverpool striker Michael Ngoo has bravely opened up on his battle with depression after an injury ruled him out for two years. Ngoo had made just a handful of appearances for Kilmarnock when a horror tackle from Virgil van Dijk, who was at Celtic at the time, left him needing two surgeries to screw the bones back together in his ankle. The injury ended his career in Scotland, with the striker eventually having short spells with Bromley and then Oldham before leaving the UK to find regular football elsewhere. "I wasn't just injured physically – I was psychologically shattered, as well," recalled Ngoo, in an interview with Planet Football. Before I had my first operation, the specialist said to me that if my rehab did not go to plan then I would not play professional football again. He made that clear. I went through a very bad time. "I was stressed and reflecting on what I should do because I thought that I might not be able to kick a ball again." Ngoo, who joined Liverpool as a youth player in 2009 and trained at the club before having loan spells at Hearts, Yeovil and Walsall, signed a permanent deal with Kilmarnock in 2014. He was making his sixth appearance when he was injured against Celtic. He said to the Daily Mail in 2014: "I told our physio right away that van Dijk had tried to do me. "Before the tackle, there were a few words said between us. Then he came through the back of me. I think it was deliberate." At the time Ngoo was very angry with Van Dijk. But Ngoo later forgave the Netherlands international, saying: "Van Dijk apologised through John Guidetti, a friend of mine, who was on loan at Celtic at the time. "The damage had been done, but I don't hold any grudges." Ngoo joined Albanian side Tirana in 2017 but left this year to represent Enosis Neon Paralimni in Cyprus. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/ex-liverpool-star-admits-depression-23805797?1=&__twitter_impression=true&utm_source=taboola&utm_medium=display&utm_campaign=exchange I was there - it was a horror 'tackle' i.e. assault. Hated van D!ck ever since.

  38. Type of cup tie in normal times would see our away support selling out the allocation and providing a great atmosphere , it’s a pity to miss out on a different kind of away trip than the usual premiership tie we seem to have had recently in that cup With the larger than usual break between league games TW may well keep to in most part his strongest team ,possibly with exception of Lafferty and Burke and perhaps change of keeper.

Oh good god - Hunt tweeted: “The flying of the Union flag should be compulsory for all schools. “If any pupils and teachers have concerns about this then surely they can be ‘educated’ about what the flag actually represents. [The Union flag] belongs to every single British person.” Laugh all you like red card all you yoons like. Your continued support od this union is allowing these lunatics to usher in fascist behaviour bordering on the f**king third reich. Ffs this clown is talking about re-education of Kids.
