  10. This is just short term vision, have you considered the impact it could have on future crowds after all the good work the club has done attracting back those who would purposely swerve the cheeks visiting RP, smacks of a false economy to me.

  16. Kilmarnock town centre's Christmas light switch-on could be a blueprint to celebrate Scotland's football team opening Euro 2024 against Germany. The suggestion came during a discussion on the work being done to improve the town centre. SNP Councillor David Richardson raised the point which was sparked by the success of the Christmas light switch-on at the end of November. He said: "This wasn't my idea, this was one of my colleagues', Councillor Cowan's idea and it came from a chat that we had at the excellent winter lights switch-on." He referred to a local trader who had told council leader Douglas Reid that the night had brought in an average of £29 per head to local businesses. He added: "There was a brilliant crowd that evening and you know £29 per person get into local retailers, shops, pubs and cafes is absolutely brilliant. Now the draw has been made and there's a brilliant opportunity to have three fan zones in the same situation at the cross in the middle of the town." Scotland take on hosts Germany on June 14 in Munich in the opening match of the tournament Cllr Richardson continued: "Can you imagine it with Saltires everywhere. We open the tournament against Germany. How many people can fit into King Street in the Cross, because that would be absolutely packed. The local pubs would get a turn, the local cafes would get a turn. I think the retailers would be right behind it. It is a superb idea and I just think we should follow up on that." Provost Jim Todd said: "I wouldn't disagree with that and we need some more discussion. Come on Scotland." Daily Record
