  1. McPake looks to have got the Dundee job. Talks with Goodwin broke down.
  2. If it's a manager who's in a job, the club makes the first approach. That's how it's portrayed anyway, but with agents acting as intermediaries, I'm sure contact works both ways. The club then has to get the candidate's employer to give permission to "formally" talk to him. It can be granted or not - look at McInnes and Rangers. When permission is refused, the manager usually makes such a fuss that his employer relents. If the club and candidate reach agreement on terms, the two clubs would have to agree compensation. A tricky one for the current employer - they seem to have the other club over a barrel but, if they drive too hard a bargain, they could be left with an unhappy manager who wants to be elsewhere. So much easier to choose someone who's unemployed!
  3. I think the quote was that the board would be considering applications today with a view to setting up two days of interviews, so I wouldn't bet on an announcement tomorrow.
  4. Maybe they were burgled overnight.
  5. Sir Tom Finney bids the crowd farewell at his final competitive match for PNE in 1960, while a young Davie Sneddon listens.
  6. We want to help you join us for the next chapter of our Killie 150 journey with two special Season Ticket events being held in The Park Hotel this week. Our staff will be on hand in the foyer outside the Caprington Suite on Thursday, May 30 from 5-7pm before returning to The Moffat Terrace on Friday, May 31 between 5 and 7pm. As a gesture of goodwill to supporters for their patience and support as we fully transition to our new ticketing system, the Board has agreed to extend our Early Bird period until 5pm on Friday, June 7. Full prices, which have been frozen from 2018/19, will kick in on Monday, June 10. We wish to apologise to supporters who have experienced long delays in the process. Our dedicated Season Ticket sales team have been extremely busy, working tirelessly to answer and deal with as many requests as possible and we greatly appreciate their efforts during what has clearly been a testing period. Fans buying a new season ticket or those with a renewal code for their current Season Ticket can visit The Killie Shop in person. A member of the ticketing team will be on site throughout next week (Monday 3rd – Friday 7th June) to assist any fans struggling with their purchase. As well as calling our Season Ticket Hotline (01563 501970), you can send a note of your request to [email protected] or visit The Killie Shop and complete a form that can be passed onto our season ticket sales team. You can also access our full guide of how to renew online. We’d like to once again express our thanks to our supporters for their fantastic backing this season as well as to those who have already committed for next term. Your support is not and will never be taken for granted.
  7. From the point of view of progressing, obviously. Wrangodog hits the nail on the head: there's no reason why we can't hope for easier - "better" - draws in the earlier rounds and hope to progress. If Roma are that good then we can meet them later in the tournament.
  8. Celtic’s win over Hearts in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final confirmed that Aberdeen would be Scotland’s third representative in the Europa League. Derek McInnes’ side join Kilmarnock and Rangers in the competition, but our teams will have to go through four rounds of qualifying to make it there. It’s not an exact science, as we don’t know who will come down from the Europa League, (Champions League?) but here are the best and worst possible opponents for round one to three. First qualifying round All three Scottish teams will be seeded for the first qualifying round, which should give them an easier draw. By coefficient the most dangerous team in the lower half of the draw is Craiova from Romania, while Zeta Golubovci of Montenegro are the easiest opponents. Given Sammarinese side La Fiorita are one of the stronger unseeded sides though, all three will be hoping to go through. Worst draw: Craiova Best draw: Zeta Golubovci Second qualifying round This is where it could get complicated for Killie. UEFA coefficients are based on both the strength of the league and a club’s performances in Europe over the past five seasons. Rangers and Aberdeen are European regulars, so will be seeded for this round too. Killie haven’t been in Europe since 2001 so won’t be. That means they could face teams like Roma, Legia Warsaw, Steaua Bucharest or Espanyol. Levadia Talinn, if they get through, would be the ideal opponent for the other two. Best draw (Rangers and Aberdeen): Levadia Talinn Worst draw: Zrinjski Mostar Best draw (Kilmarnock): Luzern Worst draw: Roma Third qualifying round None of the Scottish sides would be seeded for this round as things stand, but we don’t yet know all of the teams who’ll be involved. Teams who will be involved if the second round goes according to coefficient will be Roma, Wolves, Feyenoord and Spartak Moscow. Best draw: Arsenal Tula Worst draw: Roma Fourth qualifying round This one is impossible to predict, because the clubs eliminated in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League are seeded. Seeded clubs are drawn against unseeded clubs until there are no seeded or no unseeded clubs left, at which point the draw becomes open and no seeding applies. https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/rangers-aberdeen-kilmarnocks-route-europa-16349619
  9. I believe so. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014. I think he lives in Blairgowrie now.
  10. From the San Siro to Rugby Park. That's the route that a McBookie punter wants Gennaro Gattuso to take after requesting odds for him to take the manager's job at Kilmarnock. The former Rangers and AC Milan midfielder has managed at the likes of Milan, Palermo and Sion. And McBookie were shocked to receive a request for his price to Rugby Park. They tweeted: "Normally we would think someone was taking the Michael Fish with the request, but with some of the names being quoted perhaps not. "Rino Gattuso added at 16/1 for the Kilmarnock job." https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-rangers-ac-milan-star-16218367
  11. All at Kilmarnock Football Club were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former club doctor Masood Zaidi. Dr Zaidi was a well-loved figure at Rugby Park, serving the club for well over a decade as well as working as the head consultant in A+E at Crosshouse Hospital. Former chairman Ronnie Hamilton said: "Dr Zaidi was such a kind and humble man and I feel honoured to have called him a friend for so many years. "He made an invaluable contribution to Kilmarnock Football Club and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him." One such example of Dr Zaidi's kindness came during the club's trip to Bosnia to take on FK Zeljeznicar. Ahead of the tie, he gave up his own time to help out at a local hospital and treat patients. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
  12. It's a coincidence but, in the past few days, I've read interviews with Lampard and Bruce in which they said how unfit the squads they inherited from Rowett and di Matteo respectively were.
  13. The most Kilmarnock players capped by Scotland in a single match is three, I think: James Mitchell, William Agnew and Bobby Templeton v. Ireland (A) 1908
  14. SC stressing players are in on merit. O'Donnell and Findlay in previous squad. Taylor promoted from U21s and most consistent LB last season, Brophy covering for players missing because of injury, and an obvious choice (to SC).
  15. A lot of Finnish clubs there....
  16. No, just what I’ve seen on TV. He lost his place to David (?) Martin (Alvin’s son), who kept it despite a howler in the FA Cup. He might be okay, but I just seemed to see him dropping clangers most weeks on the highlights.
  17. It’s totally understandable that any player will be thrilled to be called up, especially for the first time. Gnarled veterans probably don’t see it quite the same way! And we should be really pleased for any Killie player who is called up. I always have been. It’s just that this particular time of this particular year it’s not very helpful to have so many players having their very short close season interrupted. Club before country for me (and Steve Clarke, apparently!).
  18. I think Archer’s awful.
  19. I thought O’Dea had retired from playing and had been appointed Motherwell’s U18 coach?
  20. Don't you think there might be a reason for that? It's not as if managerial vacancies haven't arisen regularly since he "walked away".
  21. The foreign clubs didn’t represent US franchises at that time. That came in 1969 when the NASL was in dire financial straits. The new commissioner, ex-Wales international Phil Woosnam, proposed bringing in British clubs to represents the franchises for the first half the season. Killie represented St Louis Stars, playing Villa, Wolves, West Ham and Dundee Utd. Attendances were patchy - under 200 watched St Louis (Killie) play Dallas Tornado (Dundee Utd) in Dallas.
  22. Wolves are the Baggies’ big rivals. I assume from the 3-0 down comment and being the last day of the season this was after the 5-5 in SAF’s last match.
  23. Clark was interviewed with Alexander, Neil Redfearn and Mark Cooper. Valakari declined to be interviewed as did, I think, Billy Davies. Redfearn claimed that he was offered the job but declined. In fact, he said that it would have been a total waste of time but for the nice scenery on the drive.
  24. Roger Lemerre is - or was - a serious coach.
