Hats off to Fowler. 5 weeks ago we were slap bang in the middle of this pandemic and Fow has worked hard to get a deal done. No difference from contacting a player in England or abroad IMO, if anything it's a lot cheaper for the club to conduct these contacts or interviews online than potentially flying players in to sit down with face to face. -
skygod
It was interesting that he took Fowler or Dyer (nor clear which) aback by saying he could bring something that our team's missing. He didn't say what but I imagine it was some of the grit Accies specialise in. Digging in to get a result. It would show that, in the Accies dressing room and maybe others, we were seen as being a bit of a soft touch. Great attitude and he won't be a shrinking violet in the dressing room. I think he's got his eyes on the armband!

The only thing I can find to hand is a general defensive stat on footystats where he comes out third best in the league, surprisingly Richard Foster comes out on top. His stats have been discussed regularly on the Terrace and theTwoPointOne-Cast but their stats will be paid for I would imagine. As far as our team goes El Makrini was the best ball winner in the league prior to his injury.
piffer
I think McGowan will bring a bit of controlled aggression and a ferocity to the team. It was something which Taylor had a bit of and I’d say Power has it. Broadfoot aggression is different and aside from that I don’t think we have a lot of it our side. Plenty of good players and they formed a decent defensive unit for the bulk of the past three seasons but maybe one thing that’s missing.

skygod
Kilmarnock this week announced right-back Aaron McGowan as their first summer signing as he joined on a two-year deal. McGowan made 67 appearances for Hamilton since arriving from League Two side Morecambe in 2018, scoring three goals and providing five assists during his two-season spell at Accies. The highly-rated defender was delighted with his move to Rugby Park, saying to the Kilmarnock FC website: "At this time in my career I felt like Kilmarnock was the right move for me. "I spoke with James Fowler and the gaffer [Alex Dyer] about what they think I can bring to the club and they really made me feel wanted, which really helped sell me on the move." Aaron was undoubtedly a fans favourite during his time at Hamilton and played a huge role in helping them maintain their top-flight status for another season. He will officially become a Killie player on July 1 once his original contract at the South Lanarkshire side expires and will be Dyer’s first signing since joining the Ayrshire side on a permanent basis. In all honesty, as a Hamilton fan, I was surprised to see 'AJ' move to Kilmarnock as we all thought he was going to head back down to England and look for a club closer to home but, nevertheless, it is a fantastic signing for Kilmarnock and he is a more than ideal replacement for Stephen O’Donnell. The Scotland full-back departed Killie after rejecting a new contract offer and has hinted that the English Championship would be his preferred destination. McGowan will always be welcome back at New Douglas Park as he truly appreciated his chance the club gave him to progress as a player and he well and truly delivered and genuinely played like he was a lifelong fan, wearing the shirt with pride. Kilmarnock have a player who gives more than 100 per cent every single week and someone who won’t shirk a challenge. He loves to bomb up and down the right-hand side and with Chris Burke just signing a new deal one-year deal, it’s something the fans should look forward too for the coming season. One thing I’m sure Hamilton fans loved about Aaron was his honesty, there was no lying and avoiding the truth. If the team played badly, he was straight up honest with the fans and would do everything that is possible to put it right in the next game. He is a winner and that’s why he has such a close connection with the fans and I’m sure it will be no different at Killie. Another attribute that the 23-year-old has is that he is able to pick out a target man from a cross and should Kilmarnock sign a target man this summer, McGowan’s pin-point deliveries could result in some goals. Nobody in the footballing world is perfect and McGowan is no different as he does have a downfall which can be his defending on occasions. As a fan who didn’t miss a Hamilton game since he joined, there were a good number of times that he got caught out up the top end of the park after over-committing himself and against a quick counter-attacking side, it led to clear scoring opportunities or, at worst, a goal. It has certainly been a fantastic few days for Kilmarnock fans, who will all be aiming for a better start to the season than last term’s disappointment and the addition of McGowan is definitely a statement of intent from the board. He is someone that the fans should be looking forward to seeing play at Rugby Park. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/ayrshire/kilmarnock-signing-aaron-mcgowan-rated-22218683

Popular Post MuirP
I'm willing to give him more time, he made two massive blocks today. The first in the first half when Kent was through ( at first I thought it was the keeper who saved it but the replay showed it was McGowan) the second in the last few mins when he stopped the ball on the line. He doesn't make those blocks and we are thrashed 4-0. Will agree Millen seems to be able to put in a better ball but we've only seen effectively a game and a third from McGowan.
Bigdaw
Thought he was ok. 1st game. But yeah Millen for his crossing ability and speed.
killie billies pal
McGowan was one of the best fullbacks in Scotland last year, he doesn’t become a bad player overnight, I’m guessing his confidence is a bit low, he arrived thinking he was first choice, has Dyer man managed him properly? Who knows? But I think there is a very good player there and we should find ways to use him as well as Millen.
