Stendal departs Hearts

Recommended Posts

DANIEL STENDEL’S Hearts exit will be confirmed over the next 48 hours as the Jambos prepare for life in the Championship.

The German is out of contract at Tynecastle following Monday’s decision by SPFL clubs not to change the league set-up next season.

Talks are expected to take place between his representatives and owner Ann Budge with regard to ending his seven-month spell as boss.

Stendel, who replaced Craig Levein in December, had a relegation clause inserted in the two-and-half year deal he signed with Hearts.

That kicked in when the Jambos were initially relegated in May, only for the club’s push for reconstruction subsequently to complicate matters.

Stendel, for his part, expressed a desire to return next season, should Budge succeed in her bid to change the league set-up, keeping the club in the Premiership.

But that door was closed on Monday when the push for change did not receive enough support, condemning Hearts to the Championship.

The Tynecastle owner has already admitted costs will need to be cut ahead of a shortened 27-game season which is due to start in October.

While both Hearts and Partick Thistle will press on with legal action against the SPFL decision, the Jambos are now expected to cut ties with Stendel as they start planning for the future.

It’s likely Stendel’s backroom staff will all follow him out the door.

Dundee Utd must feel let down , stood by Neilson when he struggled for a period and then backed him with extra funding, ......and he walks out ......hearts as a club seems to have squandered a lot of money in past 12 months with all the coaching changes , paying for DoF to do nowt , huge squad on decent wages ....and legal fees.....and now Neilson will want backing to bring in his own players ...

strange situation all round

Neilson has a good management record in Scotland - won championship with Hearts, took them to 3rd place in his first season and had them in top 3 again when he left to go to England and he has now taken United up.

He should get Hearts up at the first attempt I would think, that league is now the weakest it has been for a few years.

Don't think United would have expected to be looking for a new manager at the end of June. This will have damaged their preparations and their signing plans. I thought that SOD might have ended up there so if that was the case it might not happen now

And to think that scumbag outfit had Stendel working for nothing and they have obviously had plenty of cash to pay off Dundee Utd and pay Neilson a decent wage.

I have always despised them and was even happy the day Dundee beat them to hand Celtic the League.

Steady on
