Coulibaly

Former Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle striker Souleymane Coulibaly has been hit with a suspended six month ban by FIFA with his club fined £1.2 million after FIFA finally ended a long-running, bitter dispute that lasted for over three years.

The ex-Spurs player moved from Kilmarnock to Egyptian side Al Ahly for £800,000 in January 2017, but the move turned into a nightmare.

He quit after four months in Africa after claimed the club withheld his passport, treated him like a slave and made him feel uncomfortable about practising his religion.

The Cairo club took the case to FIFA after claiming he broke his contract and Coulibaly, 25, eventually signed for Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel, after a stint at Partick Thistle, who had to battle through red tape to sign him.

Now after the case going to FIFA, the Court of Arbitration for Sport and back to world football’s governing body, his club must pay Al Ahly £1.2 million within 45 days. If they cannot raise the funds, Coulibaly will be banned from playing for six months.

The Egyptian club stated: “We are pleased this matter is now finally resolved and trust Etoile du Sahel will now settle the matter.”

He was different class.

Should serve as a warning for any young player about just jumping at the first offer of decent cash. A complete waste of talent.

Was very direct. Always had some tricks up his sleeve and was unpredictable for defenders. Wish he hadn’t left.
