Can't believe the negativity. A guy who has put huge sums into the club whilst getting rid of a parasite has renamed the stadium (which everyone and their granny will still call Rugby Park) to offset some debt he is owed.

Jesus Christ some of you really need to start living in the real world a while.

Well said - couldn't have put it any better myself.

We are so lucky to have someone like Billy Bowie in charge. Hopefully the likes of this deal will ensure our continued existence, which is not something many clubs will be able to say in the longer term.

FFS - I'm old enough to remember the mess the Lachlan's let us get into.  If the like of them or even MJ had been in charge of us in this pandemic we would be in serious bother.

Some of the idiots who 'support' Killie at present should be careful what they wish for.

Parasite? Is this the same bloke he shared a hotel with fairly recently?

Kilmarnock Football Club would exist at whatever level with or without Billy Bowie.

Totally agree. The guy has done a great deal of good for the club and it will always be Rugby Park to the fans. Ripping up the grass and laying down a plastic pitch was a far, far more impactful decision than just a name.
I haven’t read the last 8 pages but I would hope almost everyone sees things the same way.

I'm not a fan of the naming deal, the reason why is two fold for me it represents the over-commercialisation of football were anything and everything is for sale at a price, I cringe at clubs down south and up here having commercial partners for the most mundane of things, soon I would imagine some clubs will have official water partners etc.

Secondly is the way the deal has or has not been done, I'm not privy to the deal so I am just speculating but what work I wonder has been done to asses the value for money of this deal. I would love to know what the true value of sponsoring the stadium would be and if it is lower or higher than the amount agreed for this one. Knowing also the duration of the deal would be nice.

Fact is however I'm not in charge and the deal is done whether I like it or not.

Unfortunately that’s the game now so you have to play by those rules if you want to survive and compete. I think Manchester United have over 80 official sponsors.
If this deal helps us finish above Livingston from the Tony Macaroni stadium then I’m all for it.

Some of the critics on here and on twitter have no idea of the club’s finances.

We have no credit facilities so are dependent on the directors to underwrite any debt.

We owe BB and BBSP hundreds of thousands of quid, yet folk still think there's never been a better time to speculate on the squad than in the middle of a pandemic!

The naming rights for RP is a way of exchanging some of the debt for advertising, and to throw in some cash as well.

Twenty-eight (or whatever) years of unbroken top-flight football has led to a section of the support being complacent and unaware, or forgetful, of life below the top.

We even have some eejits who wouldn’t mind being relegated so they could have the dubious pleasure of visiting different grounds!

If they want to avoid reliance on BB and PM, support the Trust and TiK, and the Killie Care Fund lottery.

100% this.

Absolutely agree with your comments. You have to wonder what some “fans” actually want. Is BB perfect? Of course not. Is he a true football man? Probably not. What he definitely is, is a local  lad done good who stepped in and invested in our club when it was on its knees, persevered with MJ until he finalised his exit and now runs the club like a business which is the correct thing to do. The graveyard is full of ex owners who lost their shirt chasing the dream. I’m 100% behind BB and the rest of the board on how the manage the club. People should be careful what they wish for. Bobby Fleeting never put a penny into the club. He used everyone else’s money, especially his mother in law’s and the bank. That’s the main reason we ended up in the financial mess. Fleeting had the charisma to be the figurehead of the club, but didn’t have the business acumen to run it properly. Mix him and BB together and we would have the perfect chairman I suppose.

Have you considered this may have been done to stop the parasite from eventually selling it on and trousering even more cash at the clubs expense?

There is no value for money in sponsoring our stadium, the fans won't start calling it a different name, we are hardly ever on TV. In short it's just written of debt that the club owed BB which is a hell of a generous offer in this current climate.

It’s a mutually beneficial deal for both the club & BB IMO.

The club gets a proportion of debt written off, as well as a cash injection & BB gets a wee bit of extra advertising/publicity.

In the current climate we can’t shy away from investment & at the end of the day although the official name of the stadium will be BBSP, Rugby Park, the people that matter, the fans, will still call it Rugby Park.

EThe name of a football club's ground is one of the traditional mainstays of its identity, along with its colours, badge and nickname.

As a kid, I knew from memory every club in the country's identities!

Naming rights for a stadium doesn't really work unless it's a new build. Everybody is going to know the ground by its original name, which doesn't apply in the case of the Emirates and Etihad etc.

Even then, you get new builds whose names change when the sponsorship is renewed. Thus you get the John Smith Stadium, formerly known as the Galpharm Stadium, formerly known as the Alfred McAlpine Stadium in Huddersfield!

Mess with a club's identity at your peril, as Vincent Tan discovered when he changed Cardiff City's colours from blue to "lucky" red and imposed a dragon in the traditional badge!

You can't argue with what Bowie has done for the club and everyone should be grateful for that.

However, the fact he mentioned about Rugby Park always being known as Rugby Park in his statement, and down playing the significance of the change, then he obviously knew it was going to be a contentious issue, so why bother?

If you are going to invest six figures and write off money owed to the club, then surely you want maximum exposure and not down play it?

In a close season of PR muck ups with the club shop website, training kit look etc, maybe he could have looked for a better way to do it.

He is the majority shareholder though and I guess he can do what he likes

“The stadium will always be known as Rugby Park to our fans and I don’t want to take that away, so we have added our name to the start, naming the ground The BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park.
