Season could be paused

Where the hell did Celtic think Bolingoli was, visiting his granny in Easterhouse ?  We're in the middle of a pandemic and Celtic allegedly didn't even know what country their player was in. Doncaster should get a grip on this, but it's Doncaster so expect a shambles.

There were plenty breaches in the Premier League down in England. Although they didn’t seem as bothered about the threat of transmission because of players breaching lockdown rules.

In fact a player who returned a positive sample played in a behind closed doors friendly just before the season kicked off.

Given the ramifications (of which Celtic as a club would have been fully aware), there is no chance they fielded a fringe player knowing he was breaching quarantine rules. That said, the club should still be hammered. A precedent should have been set with Aberdeen. The SPFL's leniency means if the season is allowed to continue we will see this time and time again with no consequence.

Not so sure of Lennon’s innocence...

Seems to think that Griffiths who had loads of folk, more than the guidelines, at a party (caught thro’ Facebook) was no big deal..!! Think he takes a selective approach and would have been first to blast anyone else breaking the rules.

He left Griffiths out the squad though, I don't think even he'd bring on Bolingoli for 5 mins (or have him near the squad) had he known where he'd been.

That’s utter nonsense. Are the govt responsible for football players not adhering the the rules that were put in place for them?

Its the response of the football authorities I am interested in though god alone knows why the sanctions weren’t clearly agreed up front before everything kicked off again.

I guess it would be a guess of waiting to see who transgressed - wee diddy club, throw the book at them, the OF slap on the wrist.

I’m not so surprised at that to be honest. If they were off for 4 days, which I think is surprising but possible, they wouldn’t necessarily be keeping tabs on where the players were.
Incidentally does anyone know how the information came to light? Did Celtic find out and own up or did the info come from elsewhere? Or did all the players who played have to complete some type of form and the numpty dobbed himself in?
Thank God he tested negative or the whole season could have been over just as it started.

Would you be happy being a Hamilton player having to go to the 'locked down' city of Aberdeen tomorrow?

They will be going straight to the ground surely then straight back home afterwards unless they can stretch to a hotel....think Brian Rice laughed at the suggestion of an overnight stay when interviewed on Sportsound in Saturday.

Think they were probably informed by the media that they were going to be running the story.

Apparently someone seen him at the airport and dobbed him in to the papers.

CELTIC Football Club unreservedly condemns and apologises for the behaviour of the player Boli Bolingoli in travelling to Spain without informing the club and in failing to observe quarantine restrictions.

It is difficult to imagine a more irresponsible action in current circumstances and we find it beyond explanation. The Club will take immediate action through our own disciplinary procedures.

Celtic are in touch with every SPFL club today, and with all relevant authorities, to apologise for the fact that one of our employees has created so much additional difficulty through his actions.

All of our playing and backroom staff have been tested twice for Covid-19 since this incident and all, including the player in question, have tested negative. While this comes as a relief to all concerned, it in no way diminishes the seriousness or stupidity of the player’s actions.

Since the Covid -19 crisis began, we have had a safe and healthy squad of players, recording not one positive test. As a club, we have worked tirelessly to ensure a sustained, safe environment for all.

We have led the way in working with the football authorities and Scottish Government to establish the most rigorous, effective protocols and working practices, which ultimately led to the resumption of football. We could have done no more in this area.

It is a matter of the deepest regret to us that the behaviour of one individual has jeopardised that reputation and reflected discredit on football more generally.

Aberdeen is NOT locked down, it has just been put back nearer phase 1, rather than phase 3.

And provided the Hamilton team drive in, play and drive out, there won't be an issue.

FM regrets that some fitba' players are incapable of living up to expectations.

Just not acceptable. Vast majority of members of public abiding by the regulations.

Wants to get some clubs and players living up to responsibilities. Doesn't want fans or compliant clubs to pay price.

Discussions ongoing. Further statement this afternoon but "don't expect to see Aberdeen or Celtic playing in the next week".
