Well Match Fred

Much much better tonight. Thought Kiltie was great in the no10 role.

If we’re going to keep Kiltie behind the striker would like to see another winger in with pace and give us a different option which we’re lacking.
McGowan with another good game, happy to see him getting a run in the team now

Dyer interesting in the post match. Sounded like he was suggesting Mulumbu wasn't in because three games in a week wasn't there fitness wise yet, but that he'd be back in at the weekend... Mulumbu and Tsh?

Hope not at the expense of losing Kiltie behind a striker.

Finally playing Kiltie in his best position made a big difference so I’m sure he will start there again.
what Kiltie and Whitehall gave us shows what we’ve been missing from Brophy and Kabamba for ages.

I don't get why several posters on here feel the need to make derogatory comments about Nicke Kabamba. Ok he's been off form in recent games but he's also been MOTM a good few times earlier in the season. After tonight's game Danny Whitehall deserves to keep his place for Saturday. That said I'm sure Nicke will be back firing before long.

Will Whitehall still be a Killie player on Saturday?

The Brophy love affair is equally as strange as the determination of some to constantly belittle kabamba. Not much between either of them from what I’ve seen.

People love long range shots. It doesn’t seem to matter if they’re on target or even if they’re blocked straight away. It doesn’t even seem to matter that he scores less often than Kabamba, it’s the act of shooting from everywhere that elevates Brophy above his rival.

Whitehall must have by far the best goalscoring return per minute on the pitch of the attackers.  He looked a bit off the pace initially, but grew into the game, not surprising on a first league start.  We might not have as little goalscoring threat as we thought, having ruffled up the striking pecking order a bit.
The Daily Records ‘Supercomputer’ has us in 6th place for the season on 47 points, which seems optimistic, but at least the rot has stopped and a win at the weekend isn’t out the question.  3/4 of the games in this season are 6 pointers, so couple of wins might make everyone feel a lot better and a bit less panicked!  Team that panics most will get relegated this year. Cool heads and some more goals are required.

Taken as a raw stat off Wiki, Brophy has 29 goals in 100 appearances (1 every 2.9), Kabamba has 7 in 28 (1 every 4). Would suggest Brophy has the edge.

For Killie, Brophy has a goal every 209mins compared to Kabamba's goal every 295mins.

Whitehall is 106 .... rising to 138mins if his two against Clyde are discounted.

I just can't see the love-in for any of the strikers at the moment.

Brophy "the wolf" is hardly predatory, makes too many wrong decisions, when to shoot, when to pass, tries to hit the ball as hard as he can instead of picking his spot and steering ball in. Generally he is more direct and can argue you don't shoot you don't score. With so few games this season it is looking like he will be away first opportunity.

Kabamba not a great header of a ball for a big guy no real physical presence, doesn't seem to have great upper body strength, seldom wins balls in air played up to him, not cute enough to get fouls off defender, gives away more fouls than he wins, can't seem to get ball out from under his feet, seldom shoots.

Whitehall, had a reasonable game last night, no more, seems slow, his free kick and penalty were good. Looked jiggered after 60-70 mins, why can he not last 90 minutes after being in full training for six months. Strange giving him a start when deal is about to run out.

Good result last night. The key now is building on the result and creating a run of form. 3 league games undefeated is the longest run under Dyer’s tenure.

We have ended up with a winning team selection either by good judgement or luck but we also need to build on that with consistency of selection with changes only being made when there are injuries or suspensions or things aren’t working on the pitch.

We need to start the game on Sat with the same 11 players that started against Motherwell injuries permitting.

The result has bought Dyer some time but he and the players need to build on this or we’ll end up back in the position we were before the Well game.

On reflection there were a lot of similarities to the game at Tannadice. Even uneventful start followed by a good ten minutes then home side on top from about 20th minute.

The difference was Utd. then scored twice and we were clueless about how to come back. This time we kept them out our defence grew in confidence and then the excellent Kiltie scored.

The penalty and sending off killed them and we should have had more.

Both times the whole thing turned on a couple of events and the difference between success and failure isn't huge. If we can keep our heads and play constructively instead of long ball there are 7 other teams who are eminently beatable.

A mid table season followed by the much needed clearout could and should await but we aren't there yet!

Next two games are pivotal.

Do we? I'd rather Burke started instead of Pinnock against St Mirren, given he is a far better footballer. Also go with Mulumbu instead of Tish who needs a rest

We need to try and find a settled starting lineup rather than constantly making changes. Most successful teams have consistency of selection. The players that won the game against Motherwell surely deserve the opportunity to start the next game. If it isn’t working against St Mirren or we need to counteract something they do tactically then we make changes.

If the manager thinks there are fitness or fatigue issues with specific players that is the same as dealing with injuries but we need as much continuity as possible particularly when he have found a winning line up.

This also creates competition for starting places. We have criticised the fact that too many players seem to start games regardless of how well they played in the previous game.
