Charlton 3rd. @Lroy what are the chances of us incorporating a similarly simplified badge on future away/3rd kits? Would look sleek with your modernised version of the original badge.

There's a few clubs doing it this year. I'd love to see the original ball and hand logo rather than my version I think.

When manufacturer Puma unveiled away kits for four countries to be used at Euro 2020 this past summer that featured an unconventional template, questions were asked about whether the template would carry over to Puma-sponsored European club teams.

Those questions were answered on Wednesday, Aug. 18. And the answer was a resounding “yes.”

Puma unveiled third kits for 10 clubs on Wednesday, all using a similar template to what we saw at Euro 2020. The kits all feature the club name written out across the chest, bordered by two stripes. The Puma logo appears above the team name and stripes, and sponsor logos below.

The club crests (or portions thereof) are embossed in a tonal pattern down the front of the shirts, and appear in full colour on the back collars. Each kit also features sleeve cuffs and stripes running over the shoulders, though in some cases they are the same colour as the base of the shirt.

The clubs for which Puma unveiled jerseys on Wednesday include:

Manchester City (Premier League)

AC Milan (Serie A)

OIympique Marseille (Ligue 1)

Stade Rennais (Ligue 1)

Valencia (La Liga)

Borussia Mönchengladbach (Bundesliga)

PSV Eindhoven (Dutch Eredivisie)

Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukrainian Premier League)

Krasnodar (Russian Premier League)

Fenerbahçe (Turkish Süper Lig)

Have a look at all the jerseys below:

“At Puma, we want to embody faster football,” Puma employee Yannick Maspimby said during the YouTube live stream of the kit unveilings. “It means being easily recognizable, being bold, being fast. And also, at some point, it means being able to break the rules.”

“The third kit is the shirt where we really want to go out there and show what we can do, show something different that has not been seen yet,” added Puma designer Ulrich Planer.

“We wanted to do something that, at least in the European market, has not been done in such a bold statement,” Planer said of the decision to leave club crests off the front of the shirts. “From far away, you can still see that this is a Man City shirt.”

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund was also rumoured to have a jersey on the same template, with a yellow base, black stripes and “DORTMUND” spelled out across the chest in black. A leaked image garnered negative feedback from supporters, though, and the club said on its German-language Twitter account in May that “[fans’] criticism of the cup jersey for the new season has been received. The leaked jersey doesn’t look what it will look like. So please be patient.” (Translated to English by Twitter.) The latest rumours are that the yellow base and black stripes will remain, but the crest will be in the middle of the chest, with “BVB” to the left and “09” to the right.
