SCOOT KFC
Kilmarnock are closing in on a deal for Jason Naismith as the summer rebuild in Ayrshire gathers pace. Killie boss Tommy Wright is set to agree a deal for the full-back, who has been a free agent after leaving Ross County in the summer. The 26-year-old has a wealth of experience from his time at St Mirren, Peterborough and a loan spell at Hibs last year. Wright is also set to re-sign goalkeeper Colin Doyle, who spent last season on loan in Ayrshire from Hearts. The big Irishman is now a free agent after his contract at Tynecastle expired and Wright has offered him a dual role as keeper and goalkeeping coach. He will take over from long-serving goalkeeping coach Billy Thomson. The former Rangers and Dundee goalkeeper first started working at Killie in 2007. Wright, himself a former shot-stopper will bring in another keeper as No. 1 with Doyle as back-up. Killie currently have no senior goalkeepers on the books after both Doyle and Danny Rogers left following relegation to the Championship. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/colin-doyle-set-kilmarnock-return-24318394

bute-killiefan
I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that this might happen. I hope to god this is nonsense. Edit: seeing it's as a backup/coach. Can't say either way if he'd be a good coach, I would trust TW on that. As long as he isn't who we are relying on Edited June 14, 2021 by bute-killiefan
jazza
Aw no. Naismith is a decent signing though if it goes through.
Pride_of_ayrshire
I thought this would happen when I seen he was released by Hearts. This news is doubled by the fact hes replacing the retiring Thompson as keeper coach. Naismith isn't a bad signing tbf. Must show TW doesn't fancy McGowan Edited June 14, 2021 by Pride_of_ayrshire

piffer
Not sure what he’s like as a coach but I want him nowhere near the team as a player.
Scottjm
Remember last time he was just a ‘back up’ keeper and look what happened, became our number 1......

He could be a top coach on how to fall to the right at every penalty, flap at a cross ball, dither when a ball is played back to him and so on. FFS cant fathom this one out. Gary Dicker back as team building coach next?
Souleycouley93
Should have blocked his number and banned him from Kilmarnock after some of his performances last season. Some of his howlers essentially relegated us from winning positions. This going back over old ground/players is not the way forward. Also regardless of how much he will play fans won’t take to him
Fletch
Well, I suppose if Allan Russell is an A list striking coach then there's every chance Doyle could make it as a goalkeeping coach. However, hopefully he doesn't play unless in absolute emergency. Happy with Naismith coming here though.
piffer
In terms of coaching I don’t remember Stevie Woods or Colin Meldrum being great keepers but they appear to be well thought of as coaches. Freddie Woodmans dad wasn’t regarded as a good keeper but got numerous coaching jobs in the EPL.

Popular Post langlands_killie
Wtf although the whole team last season embarrassed us arguably our s**te keeper decisions cost us relegation and we want to bring that halfwit back in any capacity is bizarre.holy God there must be other options considering our claims to have the highest budget in this Micky mouse league . That if true has really pushed my button to renew the season ticket before the end of the month

KillieDJ
Plenty of examples out there of poor players becoming good coaches…you might not have the ability but the ideas might be there. If this allows our playing budget to be used more efficiently in other areas then I don’t see the issue of him as backup keeper/coach

Scouser2
The Doyle decision , IF it’s true seems very strange …did he and TW work together before? …. as if is just going on the time at our club as well as looking a poor keeper I did not see much evidence of him doing much organising of his defence in front of him , to suddenly be seen as part of the coaching set up and inspiring others As with the rest of his signings this summer , just have to hope TW knows best……and it’s proved a success overall ……
Travis
So the guy in goals when we got relegated, who goes down in more instalments than my mortgage, is going to be both backup keeper and coach our number one keeper that he’s trying to get into the team ahead of? Sure, that sounds perfectly sensible and in no way will it end up a complete mess with Doyle back as our first choice by October after the inevitable disappointing loan signing goes horribly wrong.

Gaffer
Naismith ok , Doyle just No, why would anybody want this guy near there football club in any capacity. Got to be a wind up. Crap though we were last season with a reasonable quality goalie we probably wouldn't have been relegated.

fraggle
Feel a wee bit sick at the prospect of Doyle returning. Not happy with the idea of this at all. Can you imagine the reaction if he had to come on or even started a game due to injuries. Nah, I'd rather have just about anyone else.
