I really don't know where the odd myth that Maradona dragged teams to success surrounded by diddies comes from, it's really unfair to his teammates - at international and club level he played with some of the best players in the world at the time.  At Napoli, he was part of one of the best frontline in the world with Careca and Giodano, who were superb players, particularly Careca.  He wasn't dragging Ayr to the Champions League, he was the best player in one of the best teams.

The argentina side he dragged through the WC in the US, was honking.  Even full of bloody cocaine he was unstoppable!

He played 2 games. 1 of them Batistuta scored a hat trick.

In this famously honking team there was Batistuta, Abel Balbo, Diego Simeone, Caniggia, Fernando Redondo, Jose Chamot, Roberto Sensini, Ariel Ortega and Oscar Ruggeri.

I would have taken all of them for Scotland

Chris Burke on the radio tonight, clearly a C.Ronaldo fan - says you're only the best if you continue to challenge yourself, and a player "in his comfort zone" cannot better themselves.

Have to agree....Messi has taken the easy option and money.

Would it not have been amazing for him to try and emulate Maradona 'proper' at Napoli, or a similar team in Serie A? or pitch up at a club like West Ham or Everton to show how much of a difference he could make and prove he's as good as all his sycophants say.

Instead, we'll forever have boring stats-only based arguments over it forevermore

Aye, Messi has to move to Everton to prove himself, that's it ?

Barca said to be €1.35bn in debt and spending 103% of their annual income on player wages. That is just not sustainable at all. I’d read previously the constitution protected the club from debts and put it on the elected board but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Chelsea have a similarly sized debt squirrelled away in a holding company. Apparently this allows them to comply with UEFA’s “strict” FFP rules.

They also have a rather wealthy Russian owner who could pay it off if he really wanted to. Barca look to be screwed good and proper. Could slip away in the same manner the likes of Ajax, Milan, Inter and others did when they couldnt compete financially and take a long time to recover

And if history has taught us anything, it’s that rich owners always take care of a club’s finances.
