Popular Post Cill Mheàrnaig
Absolutely bizarre to see Rory slated (as usual) at the beginning of this thread. He wasn't sensational during the first half hour but no Killie players were. As we grew into the game he became our most potent attacking option. His runs are really clever and contrary to popular opinion he doesn't just run about like a headless chicken. So bizarre to see a Killie fan that would be with us no matter the division have to do twice as much as anyone else to get any praise. Hope the wee man is justifiably proud of his performance today. Stokekillie
Thought mckenzie and Alston made a big difference in 2nd half by playing further up the pitch putting more pressure on their midfielders and keeping the ball. Special mention for hemmings what a difference having a keeper. Also think shaw Robinson partnership will bring us plenty of chances and hopefully goals

I’m one of rory’s biggest critics but after 30min today he played well. He does so much better running at his man he needs to understand this. When he comes inside with his back to goal he offers nothing. Stay on the touch line and commit your man by running at him.

WWWWnnnnnn!
Euan Murray needs a bumper contract asap. Robinson n Shaw looks promising, hope he keeps them together. Not the best football to watch but this is only a sojourn in this league hopefully.
killie89
Fantastic result at a difficult place to go. Performance was good after the first half hour too and we had the best chances throughout. They started like a train but I didn’t think they could keep the intensity up and I was pleased to be proved right. Not surprised to see Rory getting stick but I thought he played fine. Went to sleep a couple of times in the first half as he is prone to doing but he wasn’t the only one. Haunstrup as well got dogs abuse the whole first half from the people behind me. I’m not his biggest fan but to me he’s been more solid defensively than Naismith recently. A lot of teams are causing us problems down Naismith’s side and he gets caught out of position a lot but that seems to go completely unnoticed by some people.

Bigdaw
So leaving for the Match early was a bad idea. Ambushed on Maryhill road by the Tango Army and their drums. A game of two halves if ever their was one. We have played some good football in spells in more than a few games so far this season, But i could see we have done our homework on Thistle, From the off the gameplan was allow them on to us by dropping deeper and hit balls into the channels, Trying to turn their defenders and hit them on a sort of counter attack, Problem in the first half was to many long balls were down the middle and not the wide area's where the space was, So it looked like we were simply pannicking and giving the ball away. Naismith was proberly the worst as to many of his direct passes were more like high punts or long ball with little pace on the ball and TW and a couple of players were trying to point this out to him. On the other side Fraser Murray was not running into space and to often asking for the ball to feet and losing it almost everytime. The Tactic was not really working although we did create the only two clear chances for Robinson and Shaw. First half was a bit of a Battle and i though Alston and McGinn did well , MacKenzie too pressed every chance he got. Did not think Thistle looked a threat. Not for the first time but looks like the Manager sorted out what was not working and the second half the Gameplan was the same but i felt we had more control of the play. Direct passes into the channels were behind the defenders more often and more bodies were pushing forward and we started to pick up the second balls as well. The penalty was good bust into the box by Robinson and the tackle was to slow. Poor Pen by Shaw btw. Murray game more into the game and even with two Thistle players around him put in a cracking cross with his left foot for the goal , I think the young lad is a confidence player , No doubt he has ability with both feet. So glad Ollie scored and it was a peach. If he had not scored today he might loose confidence after then penalty miss. He puts in a lot of work for the Team, But his skill and runs are class. Thought Alston was impressive today , Tackles , Pressing , workrate and composure on the ball. Happy with the result and 2nd half.....Still think we are due to hammer someone.
bgb02burns
We created nothing except a long punt from the keeper. penalty Rory run through a gap and then stupid tackle on Robinson. Was not even a chance yet. own goal was jags calamity. there was no passing or decent play. The fact we won does not mean we looked pretty awful against a rank team. midfield was terrible and did nothing to create anything all game. very poor and I prefer a win and happy we have but if we lose that game or win it comments are the same. For the investment in this team that is just pish. We were given all the space in the world to play and did not. give me examples of link up play because I remember none. Long balls, picking up loose passes or winning the ball off of terrible Patrick players. There left back looked good and that was about it. We did not win because we earned it. We got lucky. All those that say we being negative cause we won are missing the point that we got better players and not seeing anything good. Partick were simply awful and if we had played any way sort of decent we should have tanked them in double figures. They gave us space to play and did not ever look dangerous. They were terrible and we were not any better. Can someone please realize that these teams are not good and with some tactics we should actual create chances. We were not good at all, they were awful. shaw bar a great finish was terrible. Midfield is the problem. why are people saying Alston was good? We had nothing creative in midfield at all. Get the ball to Robinson more was all I could have asked for. Happy we won but seriously questioning continued lack of tactics by manager. Euan Murray as usual was immense and got to give Brandon credit too, very solid on the left. Euan was too deep IMO. other than saying we won, clean sheet, etc. Anyone actually see good play? personally was disappointed with Rory again. He has started to realize he can run at players of this level at least. Still wanted Armstrong. Thought McGinn was poor and yes we have a good defence even if Naismith looked off the pace today. -

We definitely sat deep and hit long balls. Wether this was a good tactic on purpose I will need some convincing. We done this too often in all games. Thistle were horrendous is the only thing that was obvious. I did agree that Rory at least figured out he can run at defenders with affect. -

I thought Naismith looked promising early on but has been pretty poor for awhile now. Brandon has on the other hand looked really solid recently but I would like to see him get forward more as that is the better part of his game. Instructions today seemed to be to stay back and he even went more central at times and still did well. Not sure we want both Murray’s in defense though. Whoever said extend Euan Murray’s contract is spot on. I was very happy to sign him and he is even better than I thought. On a more positive note (from me) defence looked solid. Euan Murray for Scotland (too much?). Edited September 18, 2021 by bgb02burns -
