Accies fans to boycott league match

A GROUP of Hamilton Accies supporters are set to boycott next month's league clash with Kilmarnock in protest over recent results - and watch East Kilbride instead.

Supporters club 'WeAreHamilton' are fed up with the South Lanarkshire side's performances, which have left them battling relegation at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

Accies are just one-point ahead of bottom side Inverness with the Scottish Premiership set to return from its winter break next weekend.

In a letter to the editor in our sister paper, the Hamilton Advertiser, WeAreHamilton slammed the performance of the team and stated they have "no faith in the current manager" and as a form of protest they are "planning to not attend the home league game against Kilmarnock on February 4 and instead attend East Kilbride’s away tie against Selkirk on the same date."

This weekend Martin Canning's Accies travel to Killie in the Scottish Cup fourth round and WeAreHamilton plan on boycotting the league match against the same opponents the following week, in favour of attending Lanarkshire neighbours East Kilbride's trip to Selkirk in the Lowland League.

The letter reads:

"There seems to be a general consensus of opinion amongst Accies fans of all ages that the club are currently underperforming in the SPFL Premiership, and seem to be hell-bent on relegation back to the Championship.

This is despite seemingly having a first team who are, in the main, good enough to achieve staying up, and some of us feel we are not being listened to.

Three separate fan polls have shown that we, as supporters, have absolutely NO faith in the current manager.

We, as a club, have no viable full-backs and we do not have the proven strikers that would ensure our survival and push for a top-six place.

We have signed several goalkeepers unnecessarily, and sanctioned moves for players such as Oumar Diaby, Richard Roy, Christopher Mandiangu, Kemy Agustien and Nico Sumsky, who barely played.

In our opinion there have been poor decisions and we are incapable of turning performances into wins, due to poor game management and poor substitutions; added to that we display, apparently, a complete lack of ability to rouse the players, as evidenced over the last half a dozen games.

While realising that Martin Canning is not fully responsible for our signing policy, he seems unable to get the best out of the players that we have and has one of our best midfielders has been played out of position all season.

As a form of protest we are planning to not attend the home league game against Kilmarnock on February 4 and instead attend East Kilbride’s away tie against Selkirk on the same date.

That is not a course of action that we take lightly, but it’s a course of action that we feel is necessary at this point to protest against decisions currently being made at the club, on and off the pitch.

We are the fans of the club, and must show our displeasure at the people currently running the club and some of the decisions being made.

We also feel frustrated in having no input via fans’ forums (etc) and feel that this is only the case because we are small in number and hold no sway with the club, and feel that this wrong.

We will be here, or our children will be, long after they are gone, as they are merely custodians and should realise this."

East Kilbride are nine points clear of East Stirling at the top of the Lowland League and beat Selkirk 6-0 at K-Park earlier in the season.

A Joao Victoria double and strikes from Sean Winter, Fabio Capuano, Ross McNeil and Gavin Millar gave Kilby a comfortable win and travelling Accies fans will hope to see as many goals fly in at Yarrow Park next month.

Kilby boss Martin Lauchlan said: "That's amzing. If that's what they want to do, the more the merrier from our point of view.

"You never know, if they like what they see maybe they'll come back and support us in EK."Hopefully, we get a good number of them turn up and we can put in a good performance. It'll add an extra edge to our game.

"There's a good set-up at Selkirk.

"They've got a nice wee bar there as well, so I'm sure the Accies fans would have a good day out."

They bring absolutely nothing to the top flight and their crowds are a joke as it is.   A League 1 club who have been punching above their weight for years.  Hope they go down.

Not got any football in them. Spend the first minute to the last time wasting and moaning at the officials

But they are a Premiership team, Attendance statistics dont win you football games... Accies are in the top flight because they deserve to be, the opinion that Hibs and Dundee Utd etc are premiership teams and should be back 'where they belong' is sheer ignorance to well run teams who are performing above expectations. You dont see the English havering for Sheff Utd, Newcastle, Bolton, Norwich etc back in their top flight. Teams are where they are because they have played better than others.

The expectation of having all the best supported clubs in the top flight to make our game better is nonsense. Dundee utd were f**king awful last season, County and ICT have been great to watch over last few seasons. But dont let that get in the way of the media agenda

I dont like hamilton and do hope they go down but they currently deserve their place in the top league

I know Scottish football fans are a fickle lot but this one really takes the biscuit. What the hell do these guys expect? A Micky Mouse club which should be part-time in the 2nd division punching way beyond their weight.  I'm no fan of their style of football but credit where it's due, they've got up and stayed there.

I don't particularly like Hamilton for their style of football or ground, and they have punched above their weight a bit like ICT and Ross County you could argue. The fans are obviously concerned about the running of their club like ourselves although circumstances may differ, but fair play to them that they have at least managed to get something organised which we haven't managed as yet. How much it will be supported remains to be seen but let's at least give them respect for what they are attempting. We are a bigger club but don't seem to have an organisation that can pull this together.

Agree they are where they are on merit,as they have ground out results when needed to stay in the top flight.Like us their board seem to be very unpopular, and appear to have been openly critical of fans in the past.

Have some sympathy with them due to their proximity to Glasgow which obviously affects crowds. Was also ecstatic when they put Hibs down,as that is a club which has a sense of entitlement and a healthy chip on the shoulder imo.

However, don't expect them to bring more than 100 tomorrow which is poor.

One stand open tomorrow would be enough.
