A bit further afield but

Have family in BC Canada so spent a bit of time in Victoria and Vancouver over the years. Both cracking cities IMO. So many options and the surrounding area is spectacular.

Spent a bit of time on holiday down under last year. Melbourne and Brisbane were highlights. Friendly modern cities, very easy to get around and so much to do.

In Europe a place I’ve always enjoyed is Palma in Majorca. Even on lads holidays to Magaluf we always made a point of going for a day even if we did spend it drinking.

Riga was good.

Prague lovely in snow if not practical.  Unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell brewed in house was lovely.

Didn't like Frankfurt.  Train from there to Köln  along the Rhine was great.  Full size pizza and Franziskaner in a proper glass.

Belfast is interesting in a bit off a fecked up way.  Got taken to a Apprentice Boy club which was interesting.

Dublin alright. Liked the Gaol.

Istanbul a few year back. Fascinating, busy, culture.

Also a bit of tension with undercover security in Taxim square. That was before Syria properly kicked off.

Would love to go again

.

Missed ou Istanbul! Fantastic place. Huge. We were on a cruise and woke up to being right in the centre of the city. Sat on out balcony astounded by the views.

You driving @mathematics? We did that, starting in Vegas, going through Yosemite and Death Valley, up to SF and then up to LA. Magic.

Aye, (well, Mrs Mathematics will be). Got a wedding in Vegas, then driving to Los Angeles, SF, Death Valley, back to Vegas and then home. Been researching all the top spots, like the Polanski/Tate house, the LaBianca house, ...

Death Valley was mental. Stayed there one night, went to the pool in the hotel and it was 46 degrees Celsius. Had to brush my teeth with warm water as the 'cold' tap was nothing of the sort.

You could also go to the salt flats and use the worst toilet ever. It appears OK from the outside, but it being desert, there is no plumbing and it's really a festival toilet. So a pile of s**te festering in 40 degrees plus.... :33:

If you like houses, you should consider visiting the historical landmark that is Nitt Witt Ridge in Cambria. Built by recluse Art Beal over 50 years out of garbage and stuff he picked up locally and on the beach. The locals hate it but it's worth a visit.

Mrs Mathematics likes Charlie Manson more than she likes houses.

Agreed. Alcatraz, the trolley cars, Mel's  Diner from American Graffiti, helicopter under some big bridge, Giants stadium... bit windy though.

To which I'd add Chinatown, great street murals in The Mission, cable cars (trolley buses are different), Coit Tower, twisty Lombard Street, Fishermans Wharf (although it is very commercialised now), Golden Gate Park, City Lights bookshop (former hang-out of Kerouac and other beat poets), Haight Ashbury, the "Painted Ladies", some Diego Rivera murals.....

Just on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito and giant redwoods in Muir Woods.

My favourite city - only Cape Town comes close.

I have to say I'm jaded now by cities which are increasingly similar but, in Europe, Venice is unique and Nice is a great setting.
