Kilmarnock chief warns Rangers to keep their hands off Steve Clarke and insists boss WILL be at Rugby Park next season

Billy Bowie has shot down suggestions his in-demand gaffer could be Ibrox bound next season.

Kilmarnock powerbroker Billy Bowie has warned Rangers to forget about snapping up Steve Clarke in the summer.

The Rugby Park chief has been irked by suggestions his in-demand boss could be Ibrox bound next term if the Gers board choose to make a move.

Bowie revealed there has been no approaches for the manager - and told supporters their gaffer WILL be in charge of Killie next season.

Clarke’s stock has shot through the roof with the former West Brom and Fulham boss turning Killie from relegation strugglers to top six high fliers in less than six months in the hotseat.

The 54-year-old made it a double over Rangers with their victory at Ibrox on Saturday and also taken Celtic’s scalp in a run of five games unbeaten against the Old Firm.

The weekend masterclass at Ibrox has prompted calls the Light Blues should be targeting Clarke as next permanent manager with interim boss Graeme Murty in place until the end of the season.

But Bowie has issued a hands off warning and insisted the manager is going nowhere

The majority shareholder told Record Sport: “There’s been a lot of speculation but let’s nip this in the bud. Steve signed a two-and-a-half year contract and as far as we are concerned he will be here next season.

“That’s it. There seems all this talk as if he’s definitely going here, there and everywhere in the summer as if it’s a done deal.

“Far from it. We heard it before and this week it’s Rangers. No one really mentions little old Kilmarnock.

“It was the same at the weekend. It’s all very well taking about how Rangers played but not as much about the outstanding Kilmarnock performance.

“I understand people might be looking at the job he is doing though.

“But we are trying to build something here and Steve is a huge part of it. He has never once mentioned anything about going anywhere and is completely focused on his job.”

Bowie was confident Clarke would turn around the club’s fortunes - but he admitted he has been stunned by the level of success Jose Mourinho’s former right hand man has enjoyed in Ayrshire.

Killie were toiling at the foot of the table when the ex-Chelsea and Liverpool assistant arrived but cemented their place in the top six after the split with Saturday’s Ibrox win.

The gaffer has got the side firing - but he’s also galvanised the support with 9,000 packing in to Rugby Park last week for the Scottish Cup penalty shootout defeat to Aberdeen.

Bowie is adamant this is just the start as the club has big plans including a new training facility, a fan zone at the stadium and a huge community drive.

He insisted Clarke will play a central role for the rest of the current campaign and beyond.

Bowie said: “We knew we were bringing in a top manager but I don’t think anyone expected the kind of impact he has made.

“Look at the Aberdeen game last week where there were 9000 at Rugby Park. That was on a cold Tuesday night as well. The result was disappointing but the fact there was a sense of disappointment shows how far the club has come under Steve.

“We always said this was a sleeping giant and we are seeing it’s starting to wake up.

“It’s been unbelievable and to secure a top six place so soon is a terrific achievement. The season is far from finished yet and the next target is fourth.

“Who knows, we could even get a couple of trips in to Europe next season, which would be incredible.

“But it’s not just about what the club does this season. There are plans in place for the future and Steve has a big role to play.”

...Well done BB for addressing the situation and shuting up the disrespectful media. All you worriers can relax now.

I suppose Miller and Rae must know very well what you need to be a successful manager - since it's what they clearly don't have.

I can't see Clarke wanting to have anything to do with the shambles at Ibrox. He is way too clever for that. I'm more worried about an approach from England in the future as I still cant understand why he was out of the game so long when you see the calibre of managers who constantly seem to get appointed after failing elsewhere.

Makes no odds to me. I would rather Clarke came out and told them "he's sick of saying he's not moving to another Scottish team".

Same was said when Scotland job was going on and Clarke remained indifferent to it. This will grumble on as well. I fully expect the conversations on radio to follow this rough agenda:

"Yes I know what BB has said, but Willie it's my understanding a bid of 500,000 would meet Killie's valuation of Stevie Clarke".

"Are you saying the deal is still alive Chick?"

"I'm saying he's Rangers number one candidate, it's easy to say he's not going anywhere when no bid has been made. A club like Killie can't reject half a million for their manager and I think he will be in the Rangers hot seat next season".

Bowie can say it all he likes, but there's no way to guarantee that Clarke will be here next season. I don't think he'll go to Rangers, but if a steady Championship club comes in for him I think he'll be away

He has said a few times that he's not here to advertise himself for another job. I think it would need to be a Championship side that he's very confident he could take somewhere. Couldn't see him jumping ship for Barnsley etc.

I’ll take responsibility and say he will be here next season . This negativity creeping into our ranks . We are flying the now and going for Europe . Clarke is doing great and will regroup sign some good players in pre season and have a right good go at it next season . We may need to lose mulumbu and possibly even Jones but I am totally happy with Clarke deciding on replacements . His stock will be high for years now . He isn’t his name sake Lee Clark who chases the money . Clarke is minted . Got a project with some sentimental value . Training ground coming and also bigger crowds and possibly Europe if we catch Hibs . Sell our club for what it is to summer recruits . We are moving forward . Clarke will be in charge and f**k Rangers and the Scottish media . Let them talk and let them speculate .

It's like chucking your spaghetti to the wall, and seeing what sticks.

Remember Chick's whole Durie to Ibrox pish? He said it about 18 months before it happened. And when it finally did, that great whalloping tumshie tried to claim the exclusive.

Miller's thoughts on anything to do with us should be discounted. The old c**t is still bitter about us getting him sacked.

And Alex Rae is just a poor man's Allan Preston. There's a reason doofuses like them, are in the media talking about it, instead of having a job inside the sport.

Those that can, do, those that can't, get paid £50 to spout their pish on the tranny/gutter press.

That's encouraging to read, however as I went down each line I kept hoping to read, 'I've spoken to Steve and he assures me and the board he wants to stay.'

I hope this has happened behind the scenes and SC knew about this article prior to its release and was fine with everything about it. To be honest, I'd be surprised if it wasn't agreed between Board and Clarke that this was the message to put out....if it wasn't ok'd by Clarke and he hasn't spoken to the board about his desire to stay, how'd you feel reading that if you were in SC's shoes?

Is that right Chick aye?...

I don't think he'd go to a Barnsley, or someone like Leeds who sack their manager every other week. But if a good job comes up he'll go

Winger Jordan Jones has revealed all the Kilmarnock players are desperate for manager Steve Clarke to stay put at Rugby Park. (Daily Record, newspaper edition)

I wonder if JJ will be happy to stay or, dare to dream, even pen a new deal if SC is here next season?

As for idiots like Miller, Young and Rae their job is to talk s**te that will appeal to Rangers fans on the radio.

Folks wanted a public statement and now they have got one from BB. As I predicted it makes not a bit of difference to the meeja bollox.

Now they want SC himself to do something. Even if he did, again I say it would make not a jot of difference to meeja "pundits".

All I can say is they predicted with 100% certainty that McInnes would be Rankers manager by Christmas. It's what they do.

Clubs fans need to come out and back us . Get a last push up to fourth . Place will be bouncing . Clarke is an honourable man I have no doubt he will be here next season . Because he isn’t a money grabber or associated to old firm the media are raging . Killie are doing great and they canny wait to try and ruin it .

Alex Rae is an absolute dobber aswell . Seen him on Si Ferry interview . Kept turning up late to games and training , would go back up to watch rangers when he had day off in England . An alky bastard .

Aye, I watched the Rae interview with Si Ferry as well and he is the only person out of all the interviewees I've seen that came across as a total thick hun bastard. An arsehole of a guy who thinks the sun shines out his own s**tpipe.
