CB
No. The old thread is still on the old site. But, if you can't find it, it was Virtuocity predicting Terry Wogan.

Wrangodog
Barry Hines, the Yorkshire author who wrote the novel on which Ken Loach's film Kes was based, has died aged 76. The news was announced on Twitter by the poet Ian McMillan and subsequently confirmed by a friend of the author. Born in a mining village near Barnsley, Hines also wrote Threads, a 1984 BBC film that dramatised the effects of a nuclear strike on Sheffield. Hines, who collaborated with Loach on a number of other projects, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2009. Hines, who was born in Hoyland Common in 1939, left school without qualifications but later returned to complete his education. He went on to become a teacher before turning to writing and publishing his first novel, The Blinder, in 1966. Really enjoyed the book and the film.
CB
Absolutely love Threads. Watch it every christmas, a billion times better than America's nuclear holocaust film. Pulls no punches. Top, top writing.
Mogwai
"Threads" scared the crap out of me when I was wee. So did "When the Wind Blows". And that one about Rabies.
Mogwai
I attended KA in the 80s. Does anyone else remember being taken into the Assembly Hall and shown a public service film on what to do in the event of a nuclear strike?

Without giving away the ending, the last scenes shown take place on christmas day. Indeed, a couple of years ago the day of the week even matched up. It's a christmas movie...
Scooter
I see. Not seen it since it was broadcast so memory is a bit hazy... will get a copy for our Christmas family nuclear winter viewing. Beaker71
now that the voice of wizbit has popped his magic cape, how about a few tribute shows to the most talented magician to come from this here island in many a long year. Paul Daniels was a great slight of hand magician, some of his stuff in the old bunco booth was pure class.

bKb
The Larry Sanders Show was weird at the time but actually one of the first shows about showbusiness, long before Curb or 30Rock. Shandling was quite awkward as a comedian but a very good writer. Rip Torn and Jeffrey Tambour were 2 of the best characters you will ever see on TV. kept himself very fit too and avoided wifies all his life.
