CB
Just now, skygod said: Appears to have been unofficial: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/northern-ireland-vs-qatar-qatari-foreign-legion-pose-questions-their-pr-team-wont-answer-10287921.html Funnily enough, I was just about to post the guardian's piece on the game Qatar have drawn criticism for naturalising players from outside the country, and Carreno’s 4-3-3 on Sunday afternoon featured five not born there – Amine Lecomte and Dame Traore, who are French, Mohammed Kasola, who grew up in Ghana, Majdi Siddiq, a left-sided midfielder who hailed from Saudia Arabia, and the attacker Mohammed Muntari, who is also Ghanian by birth. And Qatar’s goal-scorer, Karim Boudiaf, who struck a 20-yard curling shot past the Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern, is French-born. O’Neill is critical of the policy. “It’s not a good thing. I can understand why a country like Qatar has to take that route,” he said. “But the international game is the part of the game least affected by finance. If you go down the naturalisation route, where do you stop? International football could lose a bit of its identity.” The manager denied there was any debate regarding whether Northern Ireland should take this match. “No, not from my point of view, I’m only looking at it from a football perspective,” he insisted. “When the game was offered to us it obviously gave us an opportunity to play in the UK, which was suitable given the preparation for Romania. Ultimately the plan was to play Wales on Thursday; that didn’t materialise and now we have the option to go and play in Dublin. The main driving factor was location and making sure the preparation was right.”
skygod
I'm pretty sure that this must be the first calendar year in which four Kilmarnock players - O'Donnell, Taylor, Findlay and Brophy - have been capped by Scotland.

I am sure you are correct. The previous most I can find in a calendar year was three on two occasions. The first being in 1892 when David McPherson in a 3-2 win over Ireland and James Campbell and James Orr in a 6-1 win against Wales. Then in 1908 William Agnew, James Mitchell and Bobby Templeton were all capped. They all played in a 5-0 victory over Ireland on the 14th of March 1908. Agnew also played in the 2-1 win over Wales the previous week.

I would say so. Even when we won the league it seemed that our players would only get 'capped' by the league, not the nationnal team. Even the game vs Wales at Rugby park that convinced the club to go full time only had one Killie player in it

That would give us one more international player, if true.

Steve Clarke obviously a big influence too, not sure he would have benefitted as much under a different manager.
historyman
Well done for a player who got dogs abuse during his first few games at RP while McCulloch was in charge. Proved a few doubters wrong and is heading to 25 caps. A great achievement.

Always been an admirer of O'Donnell and I'm not so sure that his limitations are that obvious, if they were he would have been well found out on the international stage by now. I have no doubt that Paterson will move on and replace him but it really pleases me when he goes onto the park in a Scotland jersey and performs well, as he has been vilified by the press and a large number of Scotland fans.
Wrangodog
Has been outstanding against some top quality players. Surprised we didn’t use him more in the first half, he always appeared to be in acres of space on that right wing. Covers some ground in that role just as he did for us.

skygod
Under-23 internationals were played between 1955 and 1976, when they were replaced by U21. These are the Killie players who were capped at that level: 5 - Gordon Smith and Jim Stewart 3 - Andy King and Jackie McGrory 2 - Tommy McLean and Alistair Hunter 1 - Bobby Kennedy, Ronnie Hamilton, Billy Dickson and Hugh Brown King, McGrory and Hamilton all played in a 3-0 win over Wales at RP in 1964.
