Popular Post dasboag
As I said elsewhere, we have been clearly targeted for some negative media attention and I expect it to ramp up during the international break, or simply any time there aren't enough opportunities to fawn over both branches of the old big-o-tree. We need to be clear that there are deliberates attempt to sensationalise and undermine our club and current standing and if we buy into it and start to pressure the board and manager its only us fans that will lose out. Transfer deadline day was on the face of it a bit underwhelming, but we have money in the bank now to sustain us and a more balanced first team squad that maybe only needs 1 or 2 players - who can be picked up as free agents no bother. The biggest comparison I can draw with our current situation with AA is Berti Vogts as Scotland manager - and that's not a negative comparison, more a reflection of our archaic national tabloid media. Couple of quotes from reflective articles on Vogts: "Vogts also suffered a critical press, and quickly. “Bungling Berti” was just one of the terms regularly offered. “The press attacked me but the people in the street were always so friendly to me,” Vogts added. “The Scottish people are so nice. Why else would I have lived there and still visit on holiday?” In the press, he was lampooned to an extent that would never have been dished out to, say, Walter Smith in the event that he struggled as the manager of Scotland. One newspaper offered to buy Vogts a one-way plane ticket back to Germany". "You have to change something," said Vogts as he reflected on his time in charge for BBC Radio Scotland's "Managing Scotland" series. "The players at this time, most of them were over 28 and that's not good enough for international football, you have to give young blood [room] in the team. Also, the old boys were not quick enough, the movement without the ball is most important in modern football. There was always waiting and looking for a long ball. That's not my style of football. I was looking for a mix, the best thing from Scottish and the best thing from Germany, maybe we could do that together. I was only looking for young players, quick players, and there were a lot of interesting players." There were other setbacks, such as David Weir retiring from international football after Vogts blamed him for some of Scotland's poor defending in a 2-2 draw against the Faroe Islands in September 2002. "I asked him a question and he said, 'no, I don't do that'," Vogts said. "I have respect for that. It's not a problem. It was the same when I spoke to Lothar Matthaus - 'your time is over, I'm looking for young players' - and we started a discussion about that. "I understand [when] players say, 'I don't like this', but I'm the coach, I'm the number one and I have to tell the boys what they have to do. That's the job of the coach." Maybe I'm over-analysing (because I should really doing my work) but from reading a few articles I see so many parallels to out current situation. Angelo needs plenty time, and plenty backing to set in motion something that could be great for the club.....but he's hardly going to ruin us if it doesn't work out in the long run.
Popular Post Mogwai
I think (and hope) it's having the opposite effect of what they intended. I think it's helping to galvanise the support behind Angelo. Yes, we've had a couple of bad results, but we can all see progress. f**k the Daily Record. f**k the Sun. Desperate, moribund rags, the pair of them. They only exist to pander to sellic and sevco. Forza Alessio! Forza Killie!

Popular Post Sp3ckyh0td0g81
transfer window closes, player leaves another away out on loan, both have their own individual reasons for doing so. The daily rags can't wait for their next target, whats their options ? Stevie G s**tting the bed in the OF game? Tommy not won a game at St Johnstone yet so is his time up ? Craig Levein is taking Hearts back the way ? Where the f**k are Sevco getting £7 million to spend on a player ? Dont be silly lets start a wee witch hunt for the foreign manager and get back at Killie for trying to upset the natural order last season. NorfolkG
I hope, once his English is of that level, that he explains fully to these journalists that they are talentless hacks and he has played and coached at the very highest level. Never has a sense of xenophobic superiority been so ill-placed.

I was very happy when he was appointed, totally gutted and then fuming at him and the players for the EL debacle at home. But since then I am desperate for him to succeed in the face of the embarrassment that is the Scottish football media. I doubt I have ever seen a more blatant gravy train, old boys network with so many pig's noses in the trough. Outside of the UK parliament of course. Riccarton Bluebell
The Scottish media are a racist institution. If a manager is not British then the spotlight is put upon them and criticism, that a British manager would not get,is bestowed on the foreign one. One of the worst culprits in this scenario is Willie Miller who was an abject failure as Aberdeen manager, yet has the audacity to criticise overseas managers, plying their trade in Scotland. skygod
I think it would help if AA gave some interviews with the press so he could get his personality across. It’s not essential for doing his job but even we, as supporters, don’t know much about him. It’s difficult to have empathy with someone when you know next to nothing about them.

GeeTee
I can’t see it doing any harm if the club, management, players and fans adopt a siege mentality since the gutter press in this country seem hell bent on putting down any team trying to better themselves, how dare we! They certainly seem to have it in for us just now. Maybe in no small part due to us not pandering to the ugly sisters up the road. It’s time for the fans and club to unite and push forward, we have all had our opinions and dissatisfaction at how the summer went and the season started but I think we can all see it’s starting to look a bit more positive now. Let’s get behind Angelo and the boys and let’s show the rest of this country what being a Killie is all about!!

Popular Post Travis
Scottish sports journalism is pretty much in its death throes. Fewer and fewer people read a newspaper, their demographic gets older and older (then dies) with no one following on behind, and the quality of enquiry and writing has been flatlining pretty much since McIlvanney died. The current crop often have egos and delusions of relevance but are really just left grovelling for scraps from Celtic and Rangers, and have been rendered completely irrelevant since social media and clubs and players communicating directly and cutting out the middle man. We aren’t remotely close to the quality of writing available in The Observer or Times. In short, there’s no need for us to get the papers ‘onside’. It doesn’t matter. There aren’t enough of us for the papers to care what we think, and their voice is so irrelevant we don’t need to care what they think. Back the team, enjoy the games and just ignore what Scottish papers say about Killie. You’ll feel the benefit in no time.

The more people bleat, of which I’m not immune, about the mindless “pundits” on radio and TV, the more they will ramp up their attention-seeking behaviour. I haven't kept abreast of Scottish sports print journalism for many years but the last football writer of any gravitas I can recall was Ian Archer of the Herald. I would like to have heard his musings on what passes for journalism these days.
