I do, and I'm sorry if that didn't come across. The regrettable fetishizing of the poppy as a symbol that I was referring to is, for me, it completely separable from the act of remembrance and attending a Remembrance Sunday service. I don't suggest that everyone who wears a poppy is necessarily a frothing fascist - but to overlook this aspect of our current society, and it's attachment and in some cases appropriation of the poppy is wilful blindness.

Popular Post kilm53
Being an ex serviceman living in Glasgow I go to the parade in George Square with an Artillery Association every year. I also go to a service held in Central Station every year on the 11th November with other veterans which is organised by an ex para work colleague of mine. Central Station was where all the Soldiers left for the 2 World Wars and also where all the bodies were repatriated to the morgue. I was informed . After there is coffee and hot/cold food for the veterans and dignitaries upstairs in the hotel (free). I didn't know they did a parade at Rugby Park I will maybe go there this year for a change. I also collect for Poppy Scotland at Buchanan Galleries + Central Station when I am not working the week prior to Remembrance Sunday, if you are in the area pop in and let me have some of your hard earned cash. I will have a Blazer on with Medals and a Beret. Peter(Kilm53)

kilm53
Kilmarnock Football Club will host our annual Remembrance Sunday service at Rugby Park on Sunday, November 10th. Conducted by Club Chaplain, James McNay, supporters are invited to attend the service outside the main reception of the Frank Beattie Stand from 1PM. All are welcome.

The Green Brigade are odious and Celtic don't do enough to reel them in for everything they do. But Sevco have a special place in hell reserved for them the way that they annually trade on a noble cause for their odious leanings. That aside, I agree that these poppy pins are really smart. Not for me anymore due to the modern associations but I'd never dream of questionning the motivations of a Killie fan or any regular person on the street wearing a poppy.

Really recommend it for the reasons above. Good to see the building, but missed most of the sights listening to the big chap Paul telling the history of the station. Some truly shocking stories, and the guy clearly is very passionate about it which is great to see.

killie billies pal
I was fortunate enough to represent the Royal Navy at the Festival of Remembrance in the Albert Hall and at The Cenotaph in 1980, many of the WW2 Veterans were still alive and marched past us that day, most humbling experience ever, without those brave lads and the ones who never came back we would not have the freedoms currently afforded to us. My poppy will be worn with pride as it is every year.

They club dont put the poppy on their tops like the rest of the UK do so they club are as bad as the fans -

Zorro
My grandad was part of the British expeditionary force in France during WWII and fought on many fronts throughout the war. He was one of the lucky ones who came home. He didn’t talk about his experiences except for funny wee stories of antics with his mates. Every year he bought a poppy and placed it round a mirror which had a frosted image of him in his uniform, in the corner of the living room. Every year the same ritual. He never once wore a poppy. Not even when he attended the remembrance parade. I often wonder about the symbolism of that mirror and what he’d make of the commercialised and gaudy poppy season.

Popular Post Squirrelhumper
We have this same debate every year, it's beyond boring. I can see both sides of the arguments and can why folk want to/don't want to wear one. Some want to remember silently, some don't want to wear one for whatever reason. I What I can't stand is (this is by and large Old Filth fans btw) are the arseholes who use it as some sort of one-upmanship show. On one hand you have Celtic who don't wear one to appease their fans then on the other you have Rangers turning it into a side show and how British they are (not nearly as bad as armed forces day which is a circus act from start to finish) I wish all club just do what we do at Rugby Park - a minutes silence, a wreathe being laid a solider playing the Last Post. I always find that a lovely tribute and true moment of reflection. Card displays, Cannons being fired, c**ts abseiling off the stands etc up the M77 takes away from what is meant to be a moment of reflection and everything to do with getting it up their manky pals in the East End. It should be the individuals choice, they should wear it as they want to, not because they are told to. if you don't want to wear it, respect those who do. It shouldn't be a hard concept.
