Seen a few similar comments like this recently. What exactly is the problem here?
We need signings, we need forwards, he’s looked fine so far.  Is it because he came from Hartlepool and nobody had heard of him?

Plenty of actual things to complain about but some people seem to want to create additional issues when they don’t exist.

As I said the player looks like he has something about him, so no issues there. It was manner we went about it, contacting Hartlepool out the blue and trying to rush the deal through on the Friday night before the QPs game (Prob due Brophy being injured) If he was one of our main targets why didn’t we get the deal done earlier in the window and have him train with squad before he makes his debut . Hartlepool seems like they weren’t difficult to do a deal with.

You’d like to think we’d be looking at guys like Jack Hastie and David Bates on loan at the very least. Okay, neither have done anything this season but decent pedigree and will have something to prove.

Actually scrap that. Jake* Hastie has already played for Rangers and Rotherham this season...

I think the biggest issue for the club is that they have made offers to various players but their agents are waiting or have had other others from other clubs and want the best price for their player. What might happen is a player or two on the very last minute as they didn't get a better offer from else where

Jones or any of the Sevco rejects will likely be out our range .They are trying to offload to get others in .I would think they are either hoping someone pays a fee for them or at least pays up most of there wages / contract. The likes of Jones was only signed to weaken the oppistion both the infirm have done it for years

I think this is what we’ve done every transfer window recently. When Clarke was here he was open about it and we tended to get players in so the fans were more relaxed.

In the summer we failed miserably and now everyone thinks that’s the norm. We’ve signed two players, I’m hopeful we’ll get a couple more. If we said in October we’ll keep the same squad and add 4 players in January most folk would have us finishing third.

I think Norman Bates would be more at home in this horror show.

Based on that thinking, should we forget about getting our business done early because it’s never going to happen?

That players and clubs are always going to wait and see if there’s a better financial offer, or one from a club which has a real pitch?

It seems though that Motherwell achieved a lot of early business in the last window and they can’t be offering much more than us.

They seem to have a progressive guy in Alan Burrows, their CEO, which helps enormously.

Problem is we're priced out of most permanent moves so need to rely on loans to get higher level players like Mulumbu and Stewart last season. The parent club won't be wanting to let players go until end of window because then they know they won't need the player and are more willing to let him go.

If for instance we loan a striker from someone and then someone else out the blue buys their other main striker. Now parent club is without 2 strikers with less time to get a replacement in. Parent clubs have all the power here.

We've gone and bought Kabamba as it only involved a small fee. However that was non league. There won't be many league 1 or higher players that we'll be able to buy out of their contract. even into the last year.

Likes of Nisbet at dunfermline makes good sense. Up an comer who's in form that we might be able to get for a couple hundred grand and probably double his wages. Longer we wait however the less chance that players like that will be available for small money.

Can't sit and wait like this, you make an offer and give a couple of days to consider the deal, if they still haven't made a decision revoke the offer and move on. If your not known to be firm then people will take you for granted and take the piss.

Thats doesn't work in the market we are in though. If Watford want to wait and see if there's a bigger club after Bachmann on loan then we are right to wait if there is still a strong chance he will come here.

You also have to take the domino effect into account - if a team unexpectedly signs someone then a fringe player that wasn't available last week is very available this week.

That's why Clarke spoke about doing business late in the window.

Players can get injured all the time so, while what you say might be correct, there isn’t much logic to that thinking.

They should really only be loaning out young players or older players who they know they won’t need under any circumstances.

Just as we shouldn’t be loaning out Waters and Thomas without knowing that they will not be needed under all but the most dire of emergencies.

Mourinho actually made a similar comment about the January window being strange in that most of the work is done at the last minute when players and their agents agree deals.

Waters is one I would take back, he has been playing regularly and in our current position it would deny St. Mirren their regular left back.

At a time when the support are looking for evidence that the Board and Management Team are taking decisive action to resurrect our season after the shambles since SC departed, pursuing the return of Jones would be the mother and father of all gambles.

Gambling on Mulumbu being fit is one thing. Gambling on JJ after how it went at the end of last year is something else.

Hopefully we are priced out of it.

I think we need to forget about Mulumbu.
If the club wanted him to be here and he wanted to be here then it would have happened.
He hasn’t played for months, we need to be looking for players who can contribute straight away.

Or to get wages off the bill. Stewart a prime example of this.
