Lroy
Never heard it called a Doo Dar in my life. Haven't ever heard it called a zapper in the north east in 10 years I've lived here.
chubbs
It could be several of those things in my house, usually with "where's the feckin'...." before it!! Buttons is the normal go to name, with a touch of doofer thrown in.
Pompey Repatriated
Doofer, though tend to use remote these days. Mrs. PE uses button and being IOW isn't too far out on that map

Bigdaw
My Mother always called it the Power......"pass me the power she would say".... I do remember the first video recorder which had a cable of about 3 metres and it was just a button at the end, It would simply pause the picture , but with a bloody big line across the screen.

I remember Greenwood Academy had a video recorder exactly like that- the teachers kept tripping over the flex. The very first video recorder we had at home was rented from Granada (it was a "top loader") and it came with a blank tape. When my Dad decided to do away with it, they came and took it away, and actually asked for the tape back. I was raging- I had a cracking Billy Bragg documentary on it.
