he 2020 AGM of The Kilmarnock Football Club Ltd was held in Rugby Park’s 1869 Suite on Wednesday, February 26.

We’ve provided an overview of what was discussed over the course of the evening.

Financial and Commercial Review

Director Phyllis McLeish and Company Secretary Graeme Bryson from William Duncan + Co led the financial review as the club posted a profit of £125,096 for the year ending May 30, 2019.

On commercial matters, Phyllis discussed summer improvement works to the 1869 Suite and the Killie Club as well as catering being brought back in house.

In the first season of our deal with TicketCo, use of our online ticketing system for season ticket purchases has risen with 30% buying online for the first time. Mobile sales now account for the biggest proportion of overall sales, ahead of the Shop or Ticket Office.

In addition to this, a fan database, allowing supporters to buy tickets online for matches at home to Rangers and Celtic is now in operation.

Season Ticket sales for season 2018/19 rose by almost 20% to 4,214 and this figure has increased further for 2019/20.

Two major sponsorship announcements have been made for next season with Brownings the Bakers becoming the club’s shirt sponsor while hummel have committed to a club-record deal to become our new technical kit partner until 2023.

Increased rights over retail will give the club greater control over the range of merchandise sold in The Killie Shop.

Stadium and Infrastructure Review – Phyllis McLeish and Billy Bowie

Summer work, entitled ‘Phase Two’, saw a new artificial pitch laid at Rugby Park as well as the creation of a dedicated gym facility for players in the corner of the Chadwick Stand.

As well as refurbishment work to The Killie Club and 1869 Suite, the creation of Safe Standing areas in conjunction with The Killie Trust has helped to add to the colour and atmosphere around the stadium.

Projects planned for ‘Phase Three’ include improved facilities for disabled supporters and a memorial garden as well as plans for new training pitches around the Moffat Stand area.

Football Operations Review – James Fowler

The club’s Head of Football Operations spoke to supporters about a range of topics from scouting and recruitment, football strategy, player pathway and transfer window planning.

He also spoke about the work being done in our Youth Academy as well as the progress made in year one of our Modern Apprentice scheme and School of Football. James also touched on bringing the Killie Women’s first team back under the wing of the club and our hopes to inspire a new generation of female fans and players.

Fan and Community Engagement Review – Cathy Jamieson

Cathy detailed the range of events and achievements over the course of the club’s 150th Anniversary celebrations.

These included but were not limited to:

  • Anniversary Dinner at the Park Hotel attended by over 300 guests
  • Our commemorative Oxford Blue kit is the club’s biggest selling shirt in over 20 years while the first of our Retro Strips sold out in two days.
  • Launch of Former Players’ Association and securing replica trophies for our Champions’ Lounge
  • Killie Forever Exhibition has been one of the most popular ever seen at the Scottish Football Museum and has now been extended twice (open until April)
  • Civic Reception and formation of School Supporters’ Clubs throughout East Ayrshire.

A new book, by club historian John Livingston and Richard Cairns, is due for release soon with a new mascot set to launch next month.

Cathy also detailed the work performed by The Killie Trust in collaboration with the club over the past 12 months as well as the valuable projects run by the Kilmarnock Community Sports Trust (KCST).

KCST and Crosshouse Children’s Fund are the club’s charity partners this year and have received strong support from our fan base. The club has continued to support other charities through the provision of match tickets and this will continue throughout 2020 and beyond.

The club’s range of media platforms and communications channels has been increased with new features including the WeAreKillie podcast and Killie Nation video series warmly received.

The evening concluded with Q+A sessions with the Board of Directors followed by questions for Manager Alex Dyer and Head of Football Operations, James Fowler.

Thank you to everyone who attended.

Putting aside the Manager issue for a moment  ---

think this Board do deserve a lot of praise for the number of improvements seen and promises followed through in regard to off the field changes --there has been a number of errors highlighted last summer which they eventually have put plans in place to correct ----and club does seem on face value to be in a far better place and more organised than under previous regimes as well as more open to Fan involvement

The new additions made in off the pitch posts were badly needed such as General Manager and HoF Operations--- there now needs to be seen positive outcomes from these appointees.

As to the on the pitch and Manager issues -----if what BB was quoted as saying is true ---then why has the board not confirmed AD on a longer contract ?-----Still feel that though AD may currently be seen as the best choice or is it safe choice by the Board ATM ....their could well be a shift in that opinion in next couple of months depending on results

Seriously? The biggest story affecting the club in the current financial year shouldn't get a mention?

Firstly, it calls into question the board's competence when they sack a manager six months into a three-year contract, a manager hailed by BB as being the best in Scotland.

Despite the embarrassment of Connah's Quay, we were fifth in the league at the time so it doesn't seem that the sacking was performance related.

If it wasn't a mistake to appoint him, was it an error to get rid of him so soon?

Secondly, how much did it cost the club to terminate the contracts of the manager and his associates?

These are questions which shareholders are entitled to ask, whether or not you think there would have been a benefit.

I expect the club would have planned a response which would have been along the lines of "Unable to comment due to the terms of the compromise agreement with AA". To not even raise the subject and put the matter to bed once and for all, leaving the elephant hanging around in the room until next year's AGM when it will be part of the report and accounts for the current financial year, is surprising.

In fact, the board could have pre-empted any questions by making a statement on the subject. It might not have satisfied everyone but it would have been the grown-up way to deal with it.

I don't see why dealing with the subject should cause AD any embarrassment. He just happens to be the beneficiary of the affair.

If you had thought through your response then you'll have understood why I asked. Let's just imagine The Board made one of the following responses. Official version -  you've already alluded to that - let's use your words. '' "Unable to comment due to the terms of the compromise agreement with AA". Unofficial response - ''the guy is crap, he is hopeless, we were going backwards with him, only way was down''. Anyone with half a brain realised that these were the only responses that could have been made. Therefore, why raise the issue unless it was for yet another good old moan?

I cannot believe we're just gonna appoint Dyer if he wants it.

Not even look at other options.

Mental.

Imagine someone outstanding (can't think of any realistic names but there will be some) is looking at the moment thinking, "that killie job is just the bill for me" and we appoint Dyer for the sake of niceness basically.

You’re right - I should have given your question the considered reply it deserved, instead of throwing into print the first random thoughts which came into my mind.

I’m surprised that so many multinational companies hold AGMs under the guise of shareholders holding the directors to account when they are, in fact, just an excuse for a good old moan.

Oh, and don’t forget the free mini pies! Was there a free pint as well last night?

If 1.2million was spent on the stadium it was probably the best time to do it with revenue up. Good to see we're still looking at indoor training facility.

Not sure what 2 x 7s pitches would do for us tho? Unless it's for the youth/kids/community stuff.

Any word on how the new kit deal works? Do we just get money up front, plus stock to sell? I assume hummel get a cut of all sales?

Are brownings going to be providing the pies next season? who gets the profits of the tea bars in that case? I'm sure they paid us to run them in the past and they got the revenue.

It’s coming more and more into light how bad a place we were in with MJ in charge. Yes we were running and had a team on the park but that’s about it. We are upgrading systems etc At the moment which were out of date 10years ago. We are bringing in other stuff which which should have been utilised a long time ago.

Hospitality box was done last year. The gym was not a new build but a conversion of an  existing building.

The old building was demolished and a new building was erected where it stood I’ve been in the building game for 30 plus years. If they had kept part of the original building then it would have been an extension and refurbishment.

At the Q&A session with JF and AD , JF stated unequivocally that if you dropped him a line/ email he would be only too glad to meet and answer questions . Perhaps those who want to know what happened with AA should approach him ?

Don’t forget he was happy to be taken for dinner as well

Exactly.

If we are saying that was a refurb of an existing building then the East Terracing to East Stand work was a refurb too.

This, the list I made earlier, including the pitch, all added up probably gets very close to 1.2 million.

Think the rail seating was also included in this but was qualified by the fact funds were provided by the Trust.

Dont know if this has been mentioned -

Apparently we should now be able to buy away tickets digitally ??

Also there was a suggestion tickets could be bought in 'certain' circumstances after 6.30 pm for home Old Firm matches. This was in response to a moan that someone from EK (a killie fan??) could not buy a ticket after arriving at the Rangers match post 6.30pm.

The comment and I jest not was..............................I'll no be back !!!!

It looks like we got our pants pulled down on the Taylor deal. If it was remotely near a club record they’d be all over it.

I can't agree. They didn't impart with any information other than there were definitely add-ons. If it was nearly a club record but not without the add-ons then they wouldn't necessarily be all over it. It could actually be Celtic who insisted on the undisclosed fee as they didn't want their fans or other clubs thinking that they'd ended up paying a lot more than they claimed they were willing to spend. We wouldn't want to reveal anything because we might have to deal with them again and it could be financially beneficial if we proved that we could keep an undisclosed fee, undisclosed. If Celtic had pulled our trousers down then their support would have been all over it and we'd never hear the end of it, and they have more leaks than Wales.

They definitely said this, the guy in the corner confirmed it (Greg?). Pretty sure he didn't understand what was being asked though and got it wrong. It doesn't seem logistically possible given all the clubs are not on the same system.

What was said was that buying away tickets online is something the club is looking into putting in place but isn't currently available.

On the EK fan, I think the top table invited the gentleman to speak to them after the meeting to explain ways that could help his friend either use the online technology or alternative ways of buying a ticket before any police-driven deadline.

No reason why you can't buy via ticketco and get them posted out but they won't be able to give you a digital ticket.
