IF or is it more now when , decision is taken to ban public gatherings over 1000 in the UK.....has already been agreed the law re TV coverage of 3pm Saturday games will be relaxed and BT/Sky will also be asked to make some games subscription free to avoid large groups gathering in pubs etc......that allowance should also allow other clubs of games not picked by TV to broadcast live games on club channels in UK ......if they can

That's just going to mean Man United etc at 3pm on a Saturday on some SKY Freeview channel.  Does nothing to generate revenue for clubs not on TV.  Obvious solution is to sell PPV internet coverage in 2020, but then you wouldn't be watching Man U on TV.

Can't see how the season will be played to a finish now. Might well have to try a few closed door games but with a precedent set of fans gathering outside stadiums it defeats the purpose. Closed doors across Europe now, and La Liga and Serie A completely closed to fans.

They will have to make a decision soon...whether it means halting games and trying to start up again later in the year to play them then.

Talk about the Euros being postponed for a year as well now.

What's the betting the Sevco v Celtic game gets played then then SFA/SPFL order the rest to be played behind closed doors ? Valencia fans gathered outside the Mestalla last night during the game which kinda defeats the purpose of making it a closed doors game.

Australia banned flights from Italy a couple of days after the Ferrari entourage had arrived for the Grand Prix.

I suspect the public gatherings ban will be considered once the Grand Prix is done and dusted.

The season is unlikely to be concluded at this point given the rate things are escalating. Then we have a massive fiasco of how on earth do you decide relegation/promotion/Europe etc. Whatever the league decides on could feasibly be dragged through the courts by clubs who feel aggrieved.

The risk at the moment is small. Even if you get it, most people will recover, just like regular flu.

However, at the current pace of hysteria, I expect things to escalate regardless of the facts. It's as if swine flu, bird flu and SARS never happened.

Swine flu (H1N1) in 2009 was a significant outbreak. Up to 500,000 dead according to some reports.

COVID-19 will be worse based on on current predictions.

The one cause for optimism is that it doesn't seem to be as contagious prior to symptoms appearing as previously thought. This has made it containable to some extent.

We'll still be looking at anywhere between a few hundred thousand deaths to well over a million.

Italy had 62 cases on 22nd February, 888 on 29th February and 4236 on 6th March.

Singapore and China have shown that COVID-19 can be contained if the right steps are taken.

This doesn't mean locking people in their own homes, but mass gatherings seem like a recipe for disaster.

Unfortunately, financial considerations seem to mean more than the lives of elderly people.

The WHO could and should have shown some leadership on this but have been found wanting.

They took two months to recognise it as a pandemic and even now won't answer basic questions about whether mass gatherings should be avoided.

We were told yesterday at work (a school in England) that we should expect to be closed by the end of next week at the latest and that Easter holidays will be at least a month. We're going to have a day to make sure all the kids can log in to our online resources and then we need to make sure that there is stuff to do when they are off. Other teachers I know from other schools say that they've been told exactly the same so it sounds like that timescale might have come from higher up but they're trying to keep it quiet for now.

Retrospective data suggests that Hubei province underestimated their COVID-19 rate by a factor of 15.

The death rate may be a truer measure of the prevalence of COVID-19.

Taking an average time to death of 17 days, a death rate of 1% and a doubling time of 6 days, for every death there are possibly 800 cases in the community, as each death will have potentially doubled 8 times in the preceding 17 days.

With 8 confirmed deaths in the UK, this means that the true UK prevalence may be around 6,400.

So Europeans and Americans will be flocking through our ports and airports to transit.

They won't. Not allowed to fly if you have been in the named European countries in the past 14 days.

Looks like UK are going to follow Donald's lead and ban flights to and from Europe.

Clearly mainly a political move by Trump when he is excluding UK.

All schools closed here for at least a month.

All cultural and sporting events involving a gathering of more than 100 people have been banned.

All main tourist sites closed, churches, castles etc.

Football still going ahead behind closed doors.

Ice hockey play-offs cancelled. (playing a game involves more than a hundred people even without spectators)

That all sounds eminently sensible.

The Australian government obviously regard the income from the Grand Prix to be more important than the health of the elderly population and the functioning of the health service.

Banning mass gatherings might just flatten the curve enough to avoid hospitals being overwhelmed.

Been told to work from home, but have a yearly travel season ticket, at cost of £150 a month, as does the wife who has been told the same.

So do we get that covered or refunded £300 a month, not to mention, costs of working from home ?

Obv the first priority is health and safety, but it is not that simple for everyone to work from home.

What other costs are there attached to WFH other than a wee bit extra leccy?

Plenty of folk will be getting stat sick pay when their work closes, so I think we'll be the lucky ones as I assume like me, you'll get full pay.

You or I will be a couple of hundred quid out of pocket at most by time restrictions are taken off.
