TV Rights

Reports starting to emerge that Canal+ and BeIn Sports are withholding cash which would be due to Ligue1 and 2 in France because matches are not being played. Companies have responsibility to themselves, employees and stakeholders but these moves could cripple football. BeIn in particular have rights to almost every major league in the world so their actions could be catastrophic. Similar moves by Sky, BT and others in the UK could kill the game. Teams up here are struggling but the English model is unsustainable

Lot will depend on if a Broadcaster has a deal in place for future years , if so they might not be too keen to upset the relevant football authority , as owning particular football rights and the customer market that attracts is still a huge part of these broadcasters income .....And as shown in recent bidding at least down south there is a few other companies willing to take over deals .......often rumoured likes of Disney and Amazon see potential in getting even one of the packages for the EPL

in Scotland BT loses all its rights this summer To domestic league and cup games for a fair few years at least...as thier Boards decided not to compete with SKY for the new contract..so if as looks likely season is cancelled/voided etc , can see them wanting contracted money reduced accordingly and paid back

SFA/SPFL staff to take a 20% pay cut and waive bonuses. Board members to take 10% cut. Some will defer wages for three months but no mention yet if it’s staff or board

Chris McLaughlin has now deleted his original tweet and claiming it’s 10% for staff. Some places on government scheme. Bonuses waived and board members deferring for three months.

He is an absolute bellend

He is, but if BT didn't want to bid then it doesn't matter how much better their coverage of Scottish football is. I can see BT and Sky renegotiating their contracts with EPL/SPFL if they aren't gettting revenue in from subscribers. There must be some get out clause that the TV companies can use to change the amount they pay out.

Nothing personal, but how can you take someone seriously who looks like that. No wonder the TV companies roll him over every time...

I seem to remember him from the Banana Splits?

That’s how this season will be played to the end

My daughter works for an internet sports broadcaster and they have literally nothing to show at the moment.

They're moving to survival mode and furloughing a third of their technical staff.

Footballers getting paid £100k and upwards a week for doing some light training can look after themselves.

I agree. Already seeing moves by Newcastle and Spurs to cut costs already. If they're not getting their tv money then quite a few may have a problem in the near future.

The EPL is obscene the money tv gives them, i have no sympathy for them at all and the obscene wages which is paid by the tv companies to the players, should be a wake up to them to enter the real world where doctors, health service  public service workers put these overpaid prima doners to shame

Spurs and others getting widely panned for trying to "furlough" their £100/week pie-stall employees at the same time as continuing to pay the Delle Alli's of this world £1M a week or whatever.

Rightly so. Presumably all employees have contracts, not just the players, so they pick on those without access to legally sharp lawyers but who will be least able to bear the cuts. The players’ silence re voluntary cuts has been deafening.

Levy the Spurs chairman is a little spiv s**t.

Always remember when he sacked Martin Jol he denied he'd been in talks with Juande Ramos, then pictures emerged of the two of them at a table outside a cafe in Spain.

I've no doubt he was doing the same behind Pochettino's back as well.

£1m a week - have a word with yourself!

While I concur generally with sentiment, put yourself in the shoes of the club. Delle Ali for example is worth say £50m and getting paid £200k per week.  Are the club to risk placing him on furlough, or imposing any other salary reduction, and risk a breach of contract which could see him walk away for free?  The 1st team squad are too big an asset to risk such a scenario.

They should be collaborating with the players and they should reach a compromise but they also need to protect their assets regardless of any perceived imbalance.

Most fans would agree that BT covered the Scottish game better than Sky.

Sky are obsessed with only the arse cheeks.

Another example that Doncaster is clueless.

Agree bt have done a great job mind you that Doncaster is a total f**king baffoon , premier sports is covering some games next season and they’ve been good as well and I expect they will have some of the bt pundits as they had this season
