kfc_superteam
DUNDEE UNITED are plotting an ambitious swoop for Kilmarnock full-back Stephen O'Donnell. The Scotland star is out of contract this summer and is also attracting interest from England. O'Donnell's contract at Kilmarnock is up at the end of the season But United boss Robbie Neilson is preparing to revamp his squad after winning promotion to the Premiership. O'Donnell, 27, is on his list of targets as the defender weighs up his long-term future at Rugby Park. The former Celtic kid has been one of Killie's most consistent players in recent seasons. He is also a Scotland squad regular under former club boss Steve Clarke - winning 11 caps. But O'Donnell will have plenty of options this summer - with United among the contenders to sign him. Neilson is keen to improve his Tannadice squad as the club look to establish themselves back in the top flight. O'Donnell fits the profile United are looking for and the Championship winners hope to lure him to Dundee. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/5509504/dundee-united-transfer-swoop-kilmarnock-stephen-odonnell/?utm_medium=Social&utm
Pride_of_ayrshire
And the same paper reported that he signed a pre contract with Aberdeen. But seems that United are soon to be killie B team

Pride_of_ayrshire
Well he's not showed any intent on leaving but also the same with staying. Im leaning towards the feeling of he will leave in when his contract is up. Im sure we would already have a replacement lined up for him already anyway with the previous threat of him leaving in January.

Speaking to a couple of Dons fans it seems he did a bit of a U turn on joining them. A deal had been agreed in principle but he didn’t want to be away from his wife and new baby. Looks like any move will need to be travelling distance from his home or involve the family moving. Our position might be stronger to get him to stay now than it has been for a while. United is not a step up for him. I wouldn’t imagine it would be a huge increase financially. It’s not going to improve his prospects of Euro football or international prospects. What’s maybe working against us now is the uncertainty over the managers role and our recent performance in the transfer market. Would he sign on knowing we could struggle to get the players in as we have recently to improve the side.

I hope the board is using all this spare time to make a decision about the manager’s position. There’s uncertainty, but a permanent manager in place is a basic requirement when we do resume training and playing.
Fudger
Certainly possible he could make this move but it's also a very easy story to fabricate in these lean times.
Pride_of_ayrshire
Is Lee McCulloch not head of their recruitment. Cause they were supposedly linked with Broadfoot Findlay and now O'Donnell. McCulloch was the one who all brung them to killie -

He has a new baby and is presumably close to family support which is very important with a young family. People often chase the money though nothing better than being happy with family close by. It may not be possible or desirable for his wife just to quit work. If he goes to Aberdeen for example it could involve him living away from home on his own. We just need to look at the Gary Dicker interview around Christmas to see how miserable he appeared to be when living away from his family.

Would likely have agreed with you while Alessio was still here and he looked disinterested. Since Dyer took charge SoD has been back, more or less, to the player he was when Clarke was in charge. A player well worthy of keeping when he's playing like that.

Aye for every SOD there are lots of guys like Ross Barbour,Sean Clohessy,et al. Unless we are very very lucky with a new signing we WILL miss SOD when he does leave us. He is a fine footballer and a modern day athlete which is a huge advantage in football these days.I would love him to stay even for 1 more season.
