Steve Clarke as Scotland manager...

Taking on the national team job is the only jobs I wouldn't begrudge him moving on to. With the media becoming more vocal about supporting him for the job, if he is to take us higher than sixth and a strong cup run very possible- the money and prestige which could be offered may be too much for anyone to turn down.

I would be more than happy with him staying on with Killie and taking on the National team. With a good number two behind him at National level it would be achievable to do well in both positions. From memory Alex Ferguson, Dick Advocaat and Fatih Terim have done it...sure there are many more too.

So Scotland last qualified for a major finals in 1998. Despite nearly half of all Euro countries qualifying for Euro 2016, Scotland still failed. Likewise World Cup 2018 was another failure.

Under Strachan’s 2 and a bit campaigns Scotland failed to finish above any country ranked above them, nor did they ever beat any notable scalps.

The SFA has not generated any Finals revenue in 20 years and evidently aren’t flush with cash.

Therefore I ask the question: Why couldn’t Steve Clarke be offered the Scotland manager’s job on a part time basis? He could recruit a trusted assistant and make sure the other SFA staff McKay (Performance Director), Gemmill (u21), Park (u19), McLaughlin (u17) all do a bit extra for their salaries.

Unlike Strachan, who preferred to live in England and monitor Scottish players in the lower leagues,  Clarke is experiencing the Scottish game first hand. He also has enough connections south of the border to monitor those playing down there as well as access to extensive media footage.

Iceland have easily qualified for the last 2 finals with a part time manager so I don’t see why Scotland couldn’t.

The money the SFA save could be used partly to subsidise Kilmarnock for an additional first team coach to support Steve, in addition to the role currently performed by Alex Dyer.

Obviously this would all need to satisfy Steve Clarke who didn’t hide the fact that he saw Kilmarnock as a long term project, but he is also an ambitious man who in British football is held in high regard.

Why do people keep mentioning money?

He's made plenty cash down south and if he was after money he wouldn't be in Scotland let alone at Kilmarnock.

It's a boring conversation in the media. Guy was out of work for years and didn't get a sniff.

Why would a guy who lives and breathes being on the training pitch substitute that for two games a year and driving all over lower league England looking at 4th generation Scottish players?

If indeed he is a Killie fan... why would you chose Scotland over the side you support? Club always over country. Always!!

As a Killie fan hope Walter gets the job and ends the speculation, as a Scot what a retrospective move that would be by the SFA......

Personally can't see why this is not a part time position and if so would have no problem with them contacting the club regarding our Manager to see if all parties were happy with that situation, from our point of view the increase in his salary may stave off the lure to leave for better paid club jobs in the summer as there will be offers....(my bigger worry) also compensation to the club for the use of our Manager may aid in keeping/attracting quality players....and lets be honest the man could do both jobs standing on his head.....having said that wouldn't think he would touch the job as it's become something of a poisoned chalice..

The Scotland job is a part-time one. Unfortunately, the Killie job is a full-time one.

We've been down that road before with Jock Stein and others and it doesn't work.

Give it to an older bloke who is semi-retired, like Walter Smith. These days they have plenty of assistants, like Calum Davidson, who are drafted in from clubs when required.

A guy like Clarke who thrives on working day to day with players would hate the lulls between matches. He's doing great rebuilding his career in club management and taking the Scotland job would put the brakes on that.
