  1. Past hour
  2. We're also not in such a dire financial position that we have to just accept a deal below market value to get some pennies in the coffers. Because we're Kilmarnock. Danny was on a hot spell of form and agreed to the deal that was offered to him. If he felt that it was below his worth then he could have turned it down and signed a pre-contract a month later. He, like most other players, will understand that they have to inevitably prove their worth at lower levels to get the big money move. In this case, you have to weigh up the pros and cons. Danny Armstrong in this example is hugely important to Kilmarnock and how we play. So because of that fact you have to look at whether taking a below market value offer just to get money in is worth it. Would it actually be more beneficial (not just financially) to keep him for another year, knowing he'll likely go next summer for free, but potentially challenging for Europe again next season? Nobody knows whether that actually happened or not, but for this discussion let's say it did and Danny tried the same. Do you first of all think that Derek McInnes would stand for that? And that's not the only major difference in the two situations. Taylor was jumping from a sinking ship under a manager that the players didn't respect who had just been embarrassed by a Welsh team. Danny would be chucking away a potential crack at Europe at a team flying where he's the focal point. And he only has twelve months left. It's easier to say to him then that nobody has met our valuation for him but stay here, play like you have for another season and you'll get the same amount of money if not more in 2025. And are you going to become financially secure by continually accepting below market value offers for your players? Why would any club ever pay what we ask for if they can just say "well, you sold Taylor for £x and Armstrong for £y"? We have also started offering longer deals than I've seen in recent years lately and making gambles on players like Mayo who required a fee.
  3. Has to be a massive benefit of having a PS literally yards from RP.
  4. I don't know if it's due to the performance schools (The Grange?) but our academy seems to be night and day now from what it was a few years ago. We're producing in numbers good players who are being recognised internationally and are attracting offers from huge clubs before they have even played in the first team. We just need to master how to maximise their transfer value while also retaining them long enough to improve the first team.
  5. "Boris Johnson had the right idea on levelling up", says Starmer. Is there any depths this "chap" will not plunge. nb : Substitute "chap", for summat more appropriate but watch out for the hatred police.
  6. Yes. Good players recover from disappointments and get on with it. He was our player. I’d never let a players emotion hold the club to ransom.
  7. That all sounds very sensible and hopefully his time for a good move will come when he feels it is right for him.
  8. There seems to be a difference in opinion on whether it would be a Premiership only vote or involve all 42. I personally can't see why it should only involve the top flight teams because it's going to impact others and potentially create a situation akin to the stupid 10k seats rule that could then become an impediment to teams who have won promotion fair and square on the pitch. FWIW, there's talk that Dundee are thinking of going to 3G until their new stadium is built which would be another vote in favour. No we won't. As has been said, any ban wouldn't be instanteous. In the Netherlands for example clubs were given three years. What will happen is that we'll lay a new plastic surface this summer and then when we're able to move into the training ground the pitch will be taken up and moved there.
  9. As I understand it (friend of the family) Watson has already had the opportunity to move south at the point of last contract extension. I was told “he just wants to play football” and that any team signing him would need to offer this. He’s not in any rush. I don’t see him going to an elite English team to be lost in an academy set up. Unfortunately (for us) you can’t hide his talent with all games being televised and him gaining international honours. I see him having good offers from mid ranking championship club initially. But unlike other young boys, it will have to line up before he jumps at a move. He enjoys killie and his family see him developing well.
  10. That sounds great in theory but the reality is different. 1. We're not in a financial position to tell people to be off with their piffling offers. 2. If the player is "worth so much more" why are we paying them comparative peanuts? 3. If we turn down offers which are good money but aren't what we think the player is worth, we can end up with nothing when they walk as free agents (or for training compensation). We have been burned too many times. 4. When you are faced with players like Taylor allegedly in tears, begging to be allowed to join Celtic although he was under contract for another two years, are you going to force him to honour his contract? It's easy enough for us to say "£3m or f**k off" but real life isn't like that. Only by being financially secure can we be in a position to pay players more, offer them longer contracts and be in a position to resist offers until they reach our full valuation.
  11. Kilmarnock recently revealed they plan to bring back a grass surface at Rugby Park before the 2025/26 season and that decision has highlighted a potential to ban all astroturf pitches from the Premiership. The Daily Mail report today that the SPFL's Working Group will make a recommendation to ban the pitches to the league board and they also say that a resolution proposing the removal will be issued before the end of the season. It is understood the vote would only involve Premiership clubs and suggestions that a 9-3 majority would be enough to spark an astroturf ban.
  12. He was also out of contract in the summer whereas Danny Armstrong won't be.
  13. Billy Gilmour, one of our best players, raved about the performance schools in his documentary. In the latest Under 19s squad 9 of them have came through that system. 7 in the latest Under 21s. We need to stick with it for a sustained period and not just try something for a few years and rip it up when it's not had immediate success.
  14. Yes, though they still like it to be kept quiet sadly.
  15. I'm not sure the performance school is a failure - plenty good players coming through from them. Nowhere near the levels of Brown era. Last squad - 4 players over the age of 30. Starting 11 had 2 player over 30 (Robertson who has just turned 30) and Cooper (who isn't a regular starter at 32) In our staring 11 the ages were. 28 30 28 32 26 22 29 22 28 29 27 Plenty of those players have at least 1 or 2 campaigns (even more for Gilmour etc) left in them after this year.
  16. Septic got £2 million for Turnbull from a championship club. Would we get more for Danny ?
  17. Yes, I know. And I think he's great. He's clearly developing really well, and I hope he goes on to flourish. I don't see him at the level of Hickey right now, but no reason he can't make it.
  18. I wasn't saying that he would be desperate to go, just pointing out the difference in any two potential deals. Also, as much as I love Kilmarnock if David Watson ends up spending his whole career here then something's went badly wrong.
  19. I think that was just so they got a run out before Euros without it being too taxing. To play 5 games in that period of time (plus hopefully) knock out games would be too much.
  20. I thought he did the right thing playing his strongest team. We were desperate for a win. The problem is that we don't have any decent young players. If Scotland had an 18 year old as good as Mainoo we would be building the team around him. The performance schools initiative has been a failure unfortunately. We're in a similar position as we were at the end of Craig Brown's reign.
  21. I am not so certain that Watson will be wanting to move anytime soon. He is on record as stating that he hopes to emulate Rory at Killie. Hopefully he can continue to progress where he is - at least for the foreseeable future.
  22. Today
  23. Spot on. Our position this summer should be that we're willing to sell but not desperate to. If nobody is willing to meet what is a more than fair valuation of him then we keep our most important player for another season and hope that he gets us either back into Europe or into it. Armstrong is a different case to Watson too. With David you'd be willing to take a smaller upfront fee in return for a decent sell-on but with Danny you'd want the amount guaranteed. £2.5m is not an unreasonable starting point and I believe that if an English Championship side e.g. got that deal then they've won a watch.
  24. Just like playing Gibraltar! I am sure Northern Ireland were viewed as being fairly straightforward opposition, where we would score a few goals and get the feelgood factor soaring.
  25. Around 1k seats in the main stand for us, so highly probable by the looks of it
  26. Southgate played Manoo , an 18yr old ? , and he was seemingly a revelation against Belgium . SC should have used Tuesday for someone like Mayo or Armstrong , but he’s become risk averse imo .
  27. Perhaps this fundraiser just needs advertising somewhere where more Killie fans are going to see this, we obviously all read the forums but not all Killie fans do, can it be posted elsewhere?
