  1. Back to the Hibs-Hearts game, we could really do with a draw there tbh. chance to keep Hibs 4pts back, hoping they get nothing at Ibrox the following week, a win at Tynecastle would then be enough to secure 4th before even playing Hibs. Hibs win at the weekend and its going to be a straight fight with them for the Euro place,
  2. Whilst I agree that they have to pull managers up for questioning the integrity of a referee (and SC will probably cop something like an 8 game ban here), have to look at the bigger picture. Contrast our game with England for a minute. Managers will criticise referees all over the world, but why is it, when they are full time and professional there (in the Premiership) that the same issues don't seem to come up? How often does a manager have to banned from the dugout in England for 5,6 8 games? When Gerrard made his comments at the start of the season was he banned for several games? If Rodgers or now Lennon made the same comments would they face a lengthy dug out ban? To suggest the same rules apply across the board is nonsense. Two main reasons...firstly in England the game is not run in the interests of two clubs as it is here. Secondly the overall standard of refereeing is much higher as a result of them being full time. Refs will always make mistakes. I can accept that. I also accept that it is a really tough gig, especially in age now of trial by TV. However, the fact remains that what we saw on Saturday wasn't a ref having an off day/making some mistakes. It was a different level of incompetence which makes our game look like a laughing stock. Missing one or two big calls can happen as said, what we had there was a ref who had no control of the game from the kick off and made an astonishing number of mistakes throughout the match. Why should a manager not have the right to say 'its the worst I've ever seen?' Many of us on here thought the same thing. Should SC have brought the family issue into it? Probably not tbh, he didn't have to, the performance of McLean was shambolic not because of who his dad is, but because it seems that he is a rank bad referee. The 'positive' is that despite being a strong bookies favourite to be the next Scotland manager this whole sham must put an end to that nonsense for SC, who would want to work for them? The negative of course is that it gives him the chance to think 'What is the point' of sticking around in a game which has this standard of refereeing and authorities.
  3. Would still go with... ---------------------Bachmann------------------- --SOD---------Dicker-------Bruce------Waters--- --------------Power-------Tish-------------------- --Burke----------McAlenay------------Taylor----- -------------------Brophy-------------------------- Assuming appeals are unsuccessful and Tish is fit. Can't see the likes of Higgins suddenly coming in. Could obviously keep Taylor at LB and put Jones in front of him as well. Scott Boyd is a real miss in this situation, as he could have partnered Bruce, with Dicker staying in midfield.
  4. Will also be surprised if either is overturned as it would involve admitting what an utter farce the whole game was by the League. Think they should hand McLean the Celtic-Rangers game in a couple of weeks to see how that goes,
  5. Exactly. They still have that big club entitlement due entirely to their achievements of almost 40 years ago. Its a shame they weren't relegated in 2000,due to ground regulations, despite finishing bottom. Hearts, Hibs, Dundee Utd, Rangers all spending time in the 1st Division in recent years, something Aberdeen have only escaped by said ground regulations and a play-off in the past, albeit Motherwell have also avoided the drop the same way.
  6. Still think Brophy had a clear and at that point unimpeded run in on goal, which would have at least allowed him to fire a shot in...therefore a GSO for me. As Zorro cites, Devlin also had other offences in addition to that one.
  7. Have to admit that Hibs are right back in this now....expect them to beat Hearts again this weekend, which could put them only two behind us for 4th. The following game they have Rangers...hopefully 0pts for them there while we pick up something at Tynecastle. Think we are going to need at least 4pts out of 6 v both Hearts and Hibs now.
  8. Still think Ball should have walked for the original assault, 94th minute or not, and Rory simply told to calm down. Even some of their fans on their forums are admitting that Cosgrove, Devlin, Shinnie and Ball should all have been red carded. Honestly can't ever remember a football playing Aberdeen side. Even in their heyday of the 80s they roughhoused most games with characters like Doug Rougvie! Simpson, McGhee et al, while Miller and McLeish refereed the game. Their tactic of surrounding the ref looking for cards has always been there as a club, not just down to McInnes. Horrible shower. Actually recall hoping that Madrid beat them in that Cup Winners Cup final they won back in the day.
  9. Again, Rory was both elbowed and then Ball also had a swing at him...Rory kicks out-red for him, nothing for Ball. In addition there is still the issue over Devlin's denying a clear goalscoring opportunity when Brophy would have had a clear run in on goal in the first half. 2nd half May went right through Bachmann with his foot up...nothing. The number of bookable fouls Shinnie committed in the 2nd half alone was astonishing. So again, with a different ref Aberdeen could have been down to 6 men (Cpsgrove included). Of course the game would technically then have had to be abandoned! Re our reds...still don't think any of them was...Broadfoot should be a yellow for sliding in when the keeper arguably has two hands on the ball, but it wasnt either out of control or dangerous, Findlay clearly plays the ball first as Shinnie then makes the most of it. Rory is a yellow for reacting to being elbowed and then having a swing aimed at him.
  10. Remember when Leckie weighed in our own behalf after our captain and manager were victims of sectarian abuse from both cheeks earlier this season? Or maybe when Celtic fans invaded the pitch at RP, trashed the seats, and essentially tried to set fire to the pitch?......Not a peep from Leckie, the self styled champion of the 'little teams', but of course never willing to challenge either cheek. Yet again a lazy article which completely misses the point about Saturday...its not about the red cards (still don't think any of them were however), it is the sheer howling incompetence and inconsistency of the man in the middle. It is quite a statement for any manager to have to suggest it was the worst he has ever seen, but he is spot on. If McLean had ever refereed a Celtic match in the way he did on Saturday (with Celtic playing our part), we would be heading for the next refs strike and the media would be in meltdown for weeks over it, with calls for McLean to be sacked immediately. When he refs a 'diddy' game though...nothing to see here.
  11. Could be something like... -------------------------Bachmann----------------------- --SOD----------Dicker--------Bruce---------Waters------- ------------------Power----Tish (if fit)--------------------- Burke----------------McAlenay--------------Taylor------- -----------------------Brophy-------------------------------
  12. No question that had Devlin and Cosgrove walked early in the game as they should have done, we would have gone on to win comfortably against 9 men, as at that point we could have passed them off the park. Genuinely can't ever recall seeing a player commit so many fouls (including two ridiculous dives) so early in a game as Cosgrove did today. Look at last weekend when they tried the same bullying tactics against Celtic..result? Surprise surprise they had Ball and Ferguson sent off. It must be so frustrating for SC coming from a League where the refs are both professional and full time, to this.
  13. The infamous Louis Thow v Ayr game was indeed shocking, but don't remember it being the case that night that Ayr should have had 3 red cards in the match as was the case today.(could be memory playing tricks of course)...Was also the game v Motherwell when we had 3 players sent off and lost 3-0? Though again although that was a bad ref performance it wasnt the case that Well kicked us off the park...Today was a different level alltogether which is why I reckon it is the worst I have ever seen. Re Rory'' red..It looked like Ball had both elbowed him and then had a swing at him as well as they tussled with each other before Rory had a kick at him...again why not a red for Ball. In all honestly Aberdeen could have been down to 6 players today...from Cosgrove and Devlin being the more obvious ones, Shinnie for his 87 fouls in the 2nd half alone, McKenna for going straight through Bachmann with a foot up (if Kirk's was a red then...), and also Ball for his elbow and swing at Rory. In the stats we committed 18 fouls, while they have 22!!! and one team has 3 reds...Anyone (even Tom English whose knowledge of football or in fairness any sport-he has no subject specialism outside how great Celtic are), would have to question the merit of 3 reds to 0 on the foul count alone.
  14. In nearly 50 years of watching quite honestly have never seen a refereeing performance like that. As said game turns entirely on both Devlin and Cosgrove (who committed about 12 fouls) not being shown red. Yes Broadfoot shouldn't have slid in as he did, yes Findlay should have been more careful (don't know what his first yellow was for though), but how many bookable fouls did they commit throughout the game with no action. McLean set the tone from the off by allowing Cosgrove to lead with an elbow every time he went for the ball. 2nd half McKenna clatters Bachmann leading with his foot.. McLean doesn't even speak to him. We did fall into their trap but we have been absolutely mugged by the most incompetent referring display as said I reckon I have ever seen.
  15. Don't think there will be that many of them in the home sections tbf, Totally different scenario from 2011 when they were playing to win the League-this game by contrast is meaningless for them. Brilliant decision and statement by the board. Hopefully a measure of things to come moving forward, with the same arrangements applying to Celtic now. For years of course they only filled one and a quarter (at best) stands (funnily enough they weren't winning the League at a canter at that time). Since they have been more successful they have turned up in bigger numbers with more glory hunters, with the attendant problems that brings. Would be great to get a good sized home support now in what will hopefully be rounding off the season in a Euro place.
  16. Think so. Hopefully we can open up a big enough gap in the next couple of weeks, to firstly ensure 4th place at least, and then push on for 3rd.
  17. As extra security for the Euro spot, if we finish 4th (obviously hope it will be 3rd), now need either Celtic or Aberdeen to beat Hearts in the final.
  18. Massive for the Euro place place tonight. Win this one and I don't think we will finish below 4th, as expect us to beat St.Johnstone at the weekend. Even a point will be decent to keep that 6pt gap on Hibs. Not sure what is best at Ibrox possibly a draw to keep Hearts back, and potentially allow us to go 4 behind Sevco. As said lose tonight and only 3pts back to Hibs.
  19. Hope so, but also hope we are out of sight of them by them, for (at least) 4th place.
  20. Brilliant to see guys from such a range of eras at the club as well...60s through to more recent times.
  21. Presumably should be: Home Rangers Aberdeen Hibs Away Hearts Celtic
  22. Think Hearts are still very much in the running for 4th tbf. Bad result for them yesterday, and yes they have 3 tough looking games to come, but they are still as much in the mix as Hibs at this stage.
  23. So its now.... Us Accies (h) Hibs (a) St.Johnstone (h) Hearts Dons (h) Sevco (a) Hibs (h) With a 4 point gap, we should be looking to take 7pts from Accies, Hibs and St.Johnstone. Hearts now have their 3 tougher ones to come. Could see them only picking up a couple of draws from these...which if so, could leave us potentially 9 clear of them going into the split. If we can go in with that sort of gap we should be fine for at least 4th. Obviously also looking to overhaul Aberdeen as well...draw in the Hearts v Aberdeen game would suit us, as long as we beat Accies. Need to still keep an eye on Hibs as well, as they have been on a decent run, but if we do the business they will be at arms length come the split. Sticks in the craw obviously needing Celtic to win the Cup at this stage for 4th to come into play for the Europa League, but thats where we are...lets just try and get 3rd. Having Aberdeen at home post split as well....surely we can beat them this time.

    Brexit

Still not convinced that the DUP will now suddenly back her deal, as, if they do, they are finished in their own backyard. They cant shout 'betrayal/standing up for N.Ireland/we can't have different arrangements' etc and then just cave in. I'm still sticking with...ask for an extension..EU says no next week. Her deal is voted down maybe another twice and a majority then vote to revoke A50. They still cant get a majority for anything else. It will cause utter chaos and scenes, but ultimately there is still no Leave option which can command a majority in the House, and of course 'The big hoose must stay open and tha'ts the bottom line'

    Brexit

Think it will now be....vote for an extension tomorrow...she then has a 3rd go at her deal probably next Tuesday...same result. EU then say 'no' to an extension on Thursday as what is the point...following week, the Commons vote to revoke Article 50, as the only options left are revoke and stay or leave with no deal on the 29th. After which May will have to resign.
