  1. Need Waters on to shore up the left.
  2. Brophy playing for himself. Pinnock and Kiltie playing well wouldn't change anything except maybe McKenzie for Brophy?
  3. Not Dickers biggest fan myself but it's a worry when he isn't there even on the bench and Burkey will be a miss.
  4. Livi was away though and the last time we'd suffered an injustice. I like the idea of a siege mentality and being Doncaster's least favourite club. The 'No one likes us' bloodymindedness viewpoint would serve us well right now!
  5. I think this is a good point. Notwithstanding the sound and fury yet again the last group to be considered are the fans!
  6. Never really had anything against them unlike most of our competitors! Am I wrong?
  7. Thanks for that Skygod I didn't know that Dundee also thrashed Jambos!!
  8. Whatever the line up I hope we go into this game really fired up. The league table looks very different this evening and this mob are net gainers. Need another Livi type performance to help put things right.
  9. We lost the chance of three points. We lost three goals though!
  10. The breaches occurred whilst players were in club's care and on duty. That's very different to cases of player stupidity off duty. Doesn't absolve the Rangers not taking tests before a match though but it isn't comparable to the other previous cases. I take all the points about helping clubs rather than hammering them but this is a clear own goal. In all circumstances an employer has Health and Safety responsibilities especially now. Very disappointing and I can't see why we dragged this out in the way that we did.
  11. When I read the 'Winning by the Law of averages' booklet about the League Championship winning season it seemed that Charlie Cooke (who was at both Dundee and Aberdeen that season) came close to stopping us on his own! I remember his Chelsea/Palace days but has anyone of that vintage got memories of him vs Killie?
  12. August 97 at Easter Road. Tony Rougier showed how to play against ten men after Gus was sent off early. Pat Nevin filled in right back for 30 seconds in which he was walked past for their second goal. Never mentions it in his punditry! Rougier and Harper stayed out wide and destroyed us. Worst refereeing performance I ever saw that day too. The guy (from Dumfries) was still being booed when warming up at RP to run the line years later!
  13. Having the power to do it is one thing. Doing it without (apparently) any reference at all to one of the teams just seems wrong.
  14. Surely the home team issue would only arise if there were crowds, police, refreshments etc. to organise? Otherwise what difference does it make?
  15. No need to do much in January unless we're having to sell guys whose aim is to walk out the door next summer. If this season continues as a win some lose some variety which most expect then after January there would never be a better chance to blood some of the youngsters so we'd know by the summer whether they're likely to make it. I guess that strategy requires assurances to AD that if we do this 8th or thereabouts will do? I'm not saying this due to sentimentality but because I think its logical, the coffers must be empty and if we do this next summer's approach to recruitment could then be much better informed.
  16. VAR has to be about getting the decision right and that was a clear penalty. If Welbeck hadn't gone down in that scenario he'd have been sacked but even that has no bearing on the correctness of the a clear cut decision. As others have said elsewhere and as we know bigger clubs usually get the marginal decisions. Even though I prefer Liverpool to Brighton I enjoyed the novelty!
  17. Haven't we been saying all along that Doncaster's trying to Bully the Wee so why would anyone be surprised he's picking on them?
  18. Maradona is the only player I've ever seen that could take a moderate side and make them World Cup winners. Gazza came close in 1990 but close doesn't do it by definition. Going back to the '86 game England were very defensive until they went two down. Then they attacked and Argentina's defence wobbled. Another missed opportunity and no one else to blame except maybe whoever bribed Peru to lose six nil in the previous match!! If that hadn't happened Brazil would have progressed and almost certainly beaten England anyway!
  19. Sainsburys was founded. Could have had a good 159 event involving them and Staropramen!
  20. I thought that as I wrote the comment but the fact remains he couldn't be sure from where he was and in real time that it was a foul. If he decides it's a foul then he has to give a red. The subtleties of whether Findlay touched it a second time and the ball was away to the keeper are impossible to judge from where the referee was. If you aren't sure then don't give it is a reasonable maxim. All that said I couldn't see how it was going to be overturned on appeal. We got a very soft penalty and that was a much worse decision.
  21. We got a ludicrous penalty on Saturday and that was definitely a worse decision than the sending off. The standard of refereeing is shocking and the guy was way behind the play. If some (like me) who have seen multiple replays find it hard to judge then we were never going to win this appeal because as we all know the standard of Governance of the game is even worse.
  22. I wouldn't disagree about relative achievement of promotion from English Championship but it doesn't detract from the central argument that some strikers thrive at some clubs and not others and may be a riskier proposition than other positions. Dobbie has always shone in Dumfries. 9 goals in 55 appearances at Swsnsea wasn't great. I was dragged up in Preston so try very hard to ignore all things Blackpool related! The fact that they have been in Premier League and North End never have is extremely painful.
  23. Stephen Dobbie is an interesting case in point as to the risks of a striker not fitting in at particular clubs. A fantastic record at QoS twice but apart from a productive loan spell at Dumbarton many clubs and not many goals. I think there's something riskier with strikers than any other position. Maybe it's because we tend to judge on goals as I've just done or maybe it's because teams need to be structured around them and their fates really not in their own hands in terms of creativity?
